Major tile regret!

Please let me know your good taste opinions.

I am having major tile regret and worried that the wall and floor tiles massively clash. The wall tiles are much more yellow toned when placed en masse next to the floor tiles and the ' busyness ' of the herringbone floor pattern seems too much with the grain of the wall tiles. In short I think it all clashes and I am worried as it's our children's bathroom I am going to be forever frustrated and disappointed with it.

I can't even go and visit because we live 5 hours away! I am considering having them replaced, which is obviously highly indulgent and over the top.

Be harsh, be kind, be honest, but please give me your opinions.

Many thanks

My DH keeps saying wait till you see it in person and then decide

I think that is good advice. Have you seen other photos apart from the ones you posted here? What do they look like at night under artificial light?

gluenotsoup · 19/02/2017 10:37

I think it is definitely the tiling on the bath that is a problem, the asymmetry is jarring, and it draws attention to the grout lines in my opinion. I would change that, and think carefully about accessories and colours to tie it all together. In my experience things can always look a little off when they are only half done, but the floor is nice. Could you consider changing where the wall tiling ends? My personal opinion is they are quite high to be half tiled if you know what I mean, and your eye is drawn to where they stop rather than the beautiful window. I hope that helps, it has potential to be really lovely.

I also agree with your husband! Absolutely mustn't do anything more until you've seen it in person with natural and artificial lighting at different times of the day and then make a decision on what to do. The most likely solution is to replace the bath panelling as that doesn't seem to work regardless of colour. The wall tiles will work if the colour works but you can only tell that when you see it in person.

Completely understand you want to fix what you perceive to be the issue asap but need to be patient and see it first and then you'll be sure of what the problem is (if there really is a problem) and how best to sort it out to your liking.

Patience is a virtue here!

Agree with Beachy, floor is lovely, other tiles not so much. I would also go with replacing / covering them with painted tongue and groove and the same on the bath panel

MrsMozart · 19/02/2017 19:25

Sorry, I don't like the floor tiles with the wall tiles - too much going.

However! My opinion reallly doesn't count. If you like the combination then stick with it.

twinklefoot · 19/02/2017 19:38

I think if you could take one layer of tiles off and tongue and groove the bath it would look better but this would probably ruin the plaster. I think you will get over it. It looks OK and I'm sure you will forget about it before too long. Also the section by the window didn't need tiling. It's like my bathroom and I put that in 9 years ago! But seriously it really looks fine.

Alwayscheerful · 19/02/2017 20:48

I agree there is lots going on but I think that look is very on trend at the moment. I wonder if a plain bespoke panel would be better than tongue and groove which might be too fussy?
I agree the bath would be fab under the window!

Madbengalmum · 19/02/2017 20:51

Like the floor, not keen on the wall tiles.

Calaisienne · 19/02/2017 21:32

IMO I agree with pp that the tiles on the bath are wrong, plus I think the wall tiles are too high, they ruin the proportions of the window wall. I would take off the top row of wall tiles too. (Once I had checked in person!)

Kiroro · 20/02/2017 10:25

Love the floor tiles.

Don't like the wall tiles.

Think it will be fine once it is done. I don't think it is too bad to go about getting tiles off the walls or anything.

MissHC · 20/02/2017 10:49

Not much to add but I LOVE your floor tiles. Do you have a link to where you got them from?

I agree that the wall tiles clash with the floor tiles; see what it's like in person but I'd go for something much less yellow. More a grey or off white colour, and less big.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/02/2017 11:10

The only time I have planned out a room with samples, that then looked poor when done, it turned out that the flooring they had laid was not in fact the same colour as the sample. Worth checking that out first I think.

kmini · 20/02/2017 21:53

Misshc they are from tile shop in North Yorkshire. I can pm you the details if you like?

Yes kmini that would be great, thanks!

CakeThat · 21/02/2017 15:26

Totally agree with the general consensus that the floor tiles are beautiful but the wall tiles not so much. It would seem a terrible waste to just get rid of them though. I'd be inclined to do what others have suggested and tongue and groove the bath panels and leave the rest, try and break it up a bit with accessories etc and if you still hate it after a year then change the lot. Lucky kids though to have such a large brand new bathroom!

SoupDragon · 21/02/2017 15:43

I would take the tiles off the bath sides, tongue and groove it and paint it the same colour as the walls. That will break up where the tiles meet.

I agree with this. The tiled bath looks completely wrong and I think it will change the entire look of the bathroom if you changed it to a painted finish..

ChishandFips33 · 27/02/2017 04:52

Have you been to visit yet OP?

Agree with removing the bath tiles and having plain panels in a similar/same shade as the wall

The paint will need to compliment both the warm wall tiles and the cooler floor tiles

Great floor Smile

Is there room for some soft furnishings like a chair, laundry basket etc The colours of those might help to soften the look too

I agree with others who've said once it's done and you're in you stop looking at everything in minute detail and see the bigger picture
