Major tile regret!

Please let me know your good taste opinions.

I am having major tile regret and worried that the wall and floor tiles massively clash. The wall tiles are much more yellow toned when placed en masse next to the floor tiles and the ' busyness ' of the herringbone floor pattern seems too much with the grain of the wall tiles. In short I think it all clashes and I am worried as it's our children's bathroom I am going to be forever frustrated and disappointed with it.

I can't even go and visit because we live 5 hours away! I am considering having them replaced, which is obviously highly indulgent and over the top.

Be harsh, be kind, be honest, but please give me your opinions.

Many thanks

Yes, good idea from Panino. You could redo just the tiling on the bath and the difference in tile sizes will be less obvious.

mrsclaus100 · 18/02/2017 20:43

I absolutely love your floor tiles. And I think they go with the bath/wall tiles. I know what you mean about seeing things in a bigger scale after looking at samples. I'm sure it'll look fab when you get all your bit and bobs in there. For what it's worth, we've renovated two houses now and I don't think anything has quite turned out as I'd imagined but you love it no matter what. Our kitchen granite looks nothing like the sample and I was furious at first but now I love it. Love the herringbone style of the floor tiles 👌

anotherdayanothersquabble · 18/02/2017 20:58

I love the herringbone tiles. The wall tiles look ok but somehow the bath panel looks odd.. how much budget do you have to change? Could I be crazy and suggest a free standing bath??

Alwayscheerful · 18/02/2017 21:01

I love the floor tiles. The wall tiles are a little dated and I dislike the cuts and placement round the bath. Get a carpenter/ joiner to make you a bespoke panel in waterproof mdf and paint it in a stone colour to break the beige up. Use a stone coloured paint on the walls. Once you have a matching bath mat and towels you will love it.

Thank you for all your comments. Loads of good helpful comments.

Fwiw - these are the wall tiles.

Crikey are you sure you were sent the right tiles? They look completely different!

dudsville · 18/02/2017 22:28

Those tiles look like they go well with each other but if you don't like it then change or let it grow on you? Nice bathroom by the way.

minnymoobear · 18/02/2017 22:31

Def need to change the end bath panel ! That
Tiling arrangement is badly done!
Rest will look nice once everything else is ready with paint, blinds, accessories etc

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 18/02/2017 22:36

Floor looks lovely. I really like it.

The wall tiles like that were very popular about 15 years ago. But as pp says once all the kids crap, towels, toys and the rest are in there you won't care.

Try to keep a nice patch of floor to look at Grin

BeachysSnowyWellieBoots · 18/02/2017 22:44

I would take the tiles off the bath sides, tongue and groove it and paint it the same colour as the walls. That will break up where the tiles meet.

Sweets101 · 18/02/2017 22:50

Agree with minny it's the end bath panel that is throwing it all out.
I don't think it looks yellow I think it looks neutral. Neutral is good, and somewhat better then grey for something as long standing as tiles as grey is going to date terribly

Astro55 · 18/02/2017 22:53

I think it's a lovely room - great windows and light - but the rest lacks personality - sorry!

It's difficult to tell until it's more lived in - but agree with removing the bath sides etc - bath would have looked great under the windo! That view from the bath with a cold glass!

JillyTheDependableBoot · 18/02/2017 23:08

Ah, okay, looking at the website I see why you have a problem with the wall tiles. They are very textured and you have a totally different texture going on with the herringbone floor. Am I right in thinking that you haven't actually seen it in the flesh though? Also agree your tiler has been very lazy in the way the end of the bath is done. But i'd wait and see, even live with it for a bit now that it's done.

UptownFlunk · 19/02/2017 01:23

The herringbone tiles are lovely but I really don't like the wall tiles, they are very dated in my opinion. If I were you and I had the budget I would remove the wall tiles from the bath at the very least - but knowing me I'd take them off the walls too. Because the herringbone pattern is quite 'fussy' in a good way, you really need as little going on on the walls as possible.

Paninotogo · 19/02/2017 06:14

YY to whoever suggested tongue and groove instead of the wall tiles, and a free standing bath. It would look stunning. An unnecessary expense though.

kmini · 19/02/2017 07:40

We haven't seen it since its been done. Only pics. My DH keeps saying wait till you see it in person and then decide.

Agree 100% re the bath panel and the tile size should probably be half the size to properly complement the floor.

Jillythedependableboot - I totally agree that the texture partially the problem. It's far too textured. Feel like such a numpty for not realising beforehand. It should have been a plain grey cream like the floor tiles.

I think it will be fine.... the beautiful floor is your statement and the walls are just neutral and simple. I think once you have some accessories (and clutter) in situ the walls will blend into the background. I don't see a clash in colour on this phone.
The only thing I'm not keen on, which does catch the eye from what I assume is the doorway, is the end of the bath.... not sure that the placing of tiles is correct somehow; it looks very off centred. But then one big central tile might look dominant. Not sure.

Misskittycat16 · 19/02/2017 08:42

Not helpful other than to say the floor is absolutely beautiful. Major flooring envy

Hisstory · 19/02/2017 08:50

I think this is a good idea.

The room is lovely and I think the tiles are ok. The floor tiles are really nice.

bigredboat · 19/02/2017 08:51

I love the floor! The wall tiles are ok, I think pp's were right to suggest removing them from the bath, that would break up the 'bigness' of the tiles and look more modern. To be honest though it's not offensive to the eyes as it is, it would be fine to leave it.

PollytheDolly · 19/02/2017 08:55

I'd put a darker colour on the walls to pull it all together and lift the eyes from the floor. Will make all the difference.

Lovely bathroom though!

I don't think they go perfectly together however I don't think they look that bad. I think by the time you have dressed and painted it it will look nice. I would love with it.

WhisperedLoudest · 19/02/2017 09:25

They're not a great match - although the biggest problem is how the end panel on the bath had been tiled. It should be one tile plus a smaller piece top or bottom not cut into three.

I love the floor tiles.

Sukitakeitoff · 19/02/2017 09:34

As many others have said, it's the tiled bath that jars. If you replaced that with plain bath panels or tongue and groove, o don't think the rest would be a problem at all. Are you having skirting or not? That also may help by breaking up the wall and floor so they're not immediately next to each other.
