Hello ladies and gentlemen,

We have currently sold our property in Birmingham and are planning to move t south. My DH works in Watford junction and we want to move somewhere that is easy to get to Watford junction. We have two kids our DS is two years old and our DD is 4 months old. At the moment we are looking at Milton Keynes we are looking for a location where there are good schools, local amenities and a place where there are fun activities for children. we would like a 3/4 bedroom house.

Must look up childhood home on Zoopla! Suspect even the old council type semis are worth a bomb now - no-one was that rich when we were growing up - and the first housing estates were being built!

DailyFail1 · 08/12/2016 21:42

MK is ridiculously priced now. Looking at 480k plus for a decent sized 4 bed in the Shenleys/Tattenhoe. Saw a house recently go up in Loughton for 600k. Can't remember if it was old- it prob was.

FYZT1816 · 08/12/2016 22:20

Which areas are closest to the MK central station ?? My DH will be using the train for work so it would be great if we can find a house near the station.

Dailyfail1- which school was it you mentioned in Emerson valley?

Emerson Valley primary is the one that's improving rapidly. You need to get a place that's also in the catchment of Howe Park infant school (if infant schools are required) as that's outstanding. Both schools feed into Shenley Brook end secondary which is outstanding and walking distance.

DailyFail1 · 08/12/2016 22:29

Shenley Church End is walkable. The areas any more central to MK aren't very nice. We have Santander Cycles like London though. Can pick up a bike from either Furzton Lake (in Furzton) or the railway station.

DailyFail1 · 08/12/2016 22:30

Should add that furzton lake is walking distance to Emerson Valley. SC are available at most of the big lakes

Wigeon · 08/12/2016 22:33

Any reason you aren't considering Watford if he works in Watford Junction and needs to go to London? You could get a three bed in Watford for that price. No commuting costs. Very close to London. Plenty of decent primaries, some excellent secondaries.

FYZT1816 · 08/12/2016 23:13

@wigeon You don't get many nice houses in Watford for our budget they're just terraced houses and that's not what we are looking for.

I live in Bushey and prices have rocketed round here over the last 5 years or so. I'm following the thread with interest as we moved into our house with one child and 6 years later have four. We've outgrown the house but have come to realise that the only parts of watford that will get you a 4 bedroom house for just under £500k are rather grim. MK seems nice and I love that we can get into central London from Bushey in under 20mins so wouldn't want to forego that but with convenience comes hefty prices 😞

FYZT1816 · 09/12/2016 00:01

Snowbodyformmmm - I know exactly how you feel, looking at the houses in Milton Keynes is such a breathe of fresh air after staring at the screen at match box houses in Watford for the same price.

We have just had a look on Rightmove at houses and seen that houses in oxley park are significantly cheaper is there a particular reason for that?

OP posts:
DailyFail1 · 09/12/2016 00:32

They might be new build townhouses, shared ownerships, or in parts of oxley park where there are no driveways & difficult parking

DailyFail1 · 09/12/2016 00:33

Do you have a link?

Unsure tbh. This house will be walking distance from Oxley town centre and a massive playground. Would expect 5 beds to go for much more than this in the area, but this is not an established area so maybe property prices have adjusted? Definitely worth a look!

DailyFail1 · 09/12/2016 00:57
  • I think there's a council estate or some kind of HA not far from there. Maybe that's why
DailyFail1 · 09/12/2016 00:58

Not far from Woodhill Prison either

FYZT1816 · 09/12/2016 01:01

Would you say the shenleys are a better investment for our family (in terms of schools/commuting/local amenities) as opposed to somewhere on the east side like Middleton?

OP posts:
DailyFail1 · 09/12/2016 01:05

Tbh both similar, just depends what you're looking for. I personally prefer Shenleys but there are many who prefer Middleton as it's retained a bit more if it's old worldly charm. If you can view both areas

FYZT1816 · 09/12/2016 08:11

Is Aspley guise a good area?

OP posts:
FYZT1816 · 09/12/2016 09:26

Does anyone have experience living on both sides of Milton Keynes? What would you say are the differences between the two? I know the east side is closer to the m1 so it would be easier to drive towards Watford from that side

OP posts:
SansaClegane · 09/12/2016 09:34

Hey Mickey I must live in the same area as you Smile May I ask when you bought, as that seems very cheap for a 4 bed? We're looking to size up, but anything remotely big enough has an asking price of £500K+.
Btw Stewkley school is only Ofsted rated 'good', not that it matters. I'd say pretty much all the village schools around here are fantastic, and get a fair few pupils from MK as well as IMO primaries in MK have lots of problems.

DailyFail1 · 09/12/2016 12:35

I don't know the Woburn Sands/Aspley Guise area well, sorry.

CassetteTape · 09/12/2016 13:13

I've only rented in shenley church end, if I was buying I'd buy here, or loughton. Would you consider renting for 6 months so you can get a feel for mk?

Redkite10a · 09/12/2016 13:24

Woburn Sands and Aspley Guise are nice villages but very expensive - lots of London commuters. Woburn Sands in particular has a lovely village feel. Both are good for driving south as you can cut through and get straight to the A421 / M1 roundabout avoiding the A421 into Milton Keynes which is bad in rush hour. You can drive to Bletchley and park there, which is cheaper than Milton Keynes station.
