From gas to induction hob - anyone regret it?

Sorry me again!
As the subject says, currently have gas hob and LOVE it but thinking of induction in new house (currently renovating) for ease of cleaning and sleek look.
BUT I am so worried that I will regret it so please give me your experiences!

We've had our induction hob for a couple of years now having previously had gas. I would never go back to a gas hob now.
The induction is so responsive, fast to bring liquids to the boil and primarily a dream to keep clean.

surabayajenny · 03/12/2016 14:53

Which induction hob do you have Suze?

PacificDogwod · 03/12/2016 14:54

No, induction is fab Grin
I did go from 'normal' electric to induction.
Have always hated gas for cooking.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/12/2016 14:56

I'd never have anything but induction now,had it for the last ten years and love it.

GinAndOnIt · 03/12/2016 14:59

I'm going to go against the grain and say I wouldn't pick one over gas. I'm very keen on an Aga though and don't like modern styles that much, so that maybe why.

NotSoHankyPanky · 03/12/2016 15:01

Love my induction. So much easier to clean than gas!

bookbook · 03/12/2016 15:04

I went from gas to induction - absolutely love it! Quick, responsive, touch controls so really easy to keep clean

Kai1977 · 03/12/2016 15:07

Really like ours for the reasons given already. We have a Samsung though and it is a bit moody, it sometimes gets confused when we put the foil wrapped butter on it or just foil generally. But that may be just ours!

peponi · 03/12/2016 15:08

Love mine! Would not go back to gas. It's. A NEFF one.

CalypsoValdez · 03/12/2016 15:13

Would never go back to gas - had a Siemens induction hob for 3 years now. In fact, we had a gas cooker in a holiday let recently and using it really confirmed how much easier induction is.

musicmomma · 03/12/2016 15:15

We love our induction hob bless us. Had has for years, nightmare to clean, now it's just a quick wipe over. Induction are very safe for children and pets as they only heat up compatible pans etc, so they can't accidently turn it on and burn themselves like on electric. If the cat sits on it and turns it on, the hob senses there are no pans on it and just switches off again! It's really responsive and easy to use. There's no danger of accidently blowing the house up either like with gas, if the nob gets turned or you leave the burner on mega low aaall day (used to happen to us). Gas heats up the whole kitchen when you're cooking too, so that's all wasted energy and heat you have to pay for. Love our hob!.

rollonthesummer · 03/12/2016 15:17

We have an induction hob-it is amazing.

bluemarble · 03/12/2016 15:18

Love love my induction hob, v responsive and I find that the wider range of temperatures means that it is much more controllable than gas, simmering is much easier as is rapid boiling.

Cleaning it is easy and most of all it is much safer which means that the DCs can help me cook and learn to use the hob in a way I couldn't let them when we had gas.

I have a Smeg range and it is wonderful, I wouldn't go back to gas now.

specialsubject · 03/12/2016 17:07

heat is heat. Electric hobs will also heat up the kitchen.

This is a marmite question so whatever you prefer. But I hate cooking on uncontrollable, pricey, slow to respond electric when I can cook for eight months on £30 of LPG and have far less cleaning to do. (I do recognise that there are new styles of hobs but why take the chance?) I can also cook in a power cut.

modern gas hobs have a device that turns off the gas if not lit.

GinIsIn · 03/12/2016 17:18

I hate hate hate our induction hob - will be ripping it out as soon as we can afford to replace it! It never seems to get things really hot, and when you have multiple pans on the go the heat just seems to disperse even further.

Kirriemuir · 03/12/2016 17:53

Again, would never go back to gas.

Happyoutlook · 03/12/2016 17:56

We use a kerosine and wood oven. It's soo nice. I still slow to respond and you need to tend the fire every 20 mins but it's worth it

fussychica · 03/12/2016 18:12

Went from gas to induction after 35 years of using gas and wouldn't consider going back to gas. I have a Neff. Fast, responsive, easy to keep clean. What's not to like?

Ijustworkhere · 03/12/2016 18:36

Perhaps we have a bad induction hob (came with the house when we bought it) but I miss my gas hob. The wretched thing seems to have two settings, tepid and dragon-breath, but if you don't watch it like a hawk everything boils over. I would say it is easier to clean, though thanks to the boiling over factor I do spend more time cleaning it overall. Its also impossible to cook on it using pans (wok, jam pan, etc) that are bigger than the ring itself as the area that doesn't sit on top of the ring doesn't heat up. With my gas hob the sides would be cooler, but things would still cook.

Sgtmajormummy · 03/12/2016 18:50

The only regret I have about induction is that the beautiful stainless steel pans I had aren't compatible. Grr!

I also put induction in a student let we own. Less risky and only one bill to charge.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/12/2016 18:53

SS pans should be OK.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/12/2016 18:54

I'm not doubting you, just wonder why not!

Parker231 · 03/12/2016 18:58

I had an induction hob fitted when the kitchen was redone after we moved - had gas at the old house. I love the induction hob - hated cooking before but it's so easy now!

icecreamfairy · 03/12/2016 19:01

I have an induction hob, having always had gas before.

It's so responsive, has a timer on it for each individual cooking zone, and has a bridge function so you can 'join' two zones together if you're using an extra big pan. Love love love it!

ggirl · 03/12/2016 19:01

Good to hear that induction is popular , we're changing to induction in the new year.
