Perfect hallway colour please, not Elephant's Breath or Mouse's scrotum

I really want to avoid grey and I'm not keen on yellow. It's a pretty big and bright hallway and landing. We are keeping the house colours all pretty understated and tonal.

My taste tends to be vintage, rustic, wishy washy colours. It would be in a matt crown scrubbable paint but they can colour match any swatch.

Any thoughts?

'Tonal' rather depends on the other tones you have on the house.

What looks good in the room also depends on ceiling height, which direction it faces (how much daylight it gets), what the artificial lighting is like, colour of flooring, colour of wood, any pictures/paintings?

We've got a Johnston's trade copy of f&b skylight - it's a gorgeous, subtle, slightly grey/green tinged blue, with the added advantage of being washable unlike the original. Has to be washable in the hallway imo.

Thanks Natty. We have cream carpets, I think the side of the house faces south. It tends to get the morning light and the rear of the property gets light later in the day. In the summer it's a total sun trap.

Wood is painted matt white. We at possible replacing the balustrade snd if so it would be a light to mid toned wood.

How about F&B Setting Plaster or Dead Salmon? That is, if you need a warm colour because you've had enough of Scandi noir and bleak seascapes

I think that blue might be too blue 🤔 I have this beautiful colour in the two main bedrooms that you can't pin down to a shade. It sometimes looks a little green, sometimes, cream, it was colour matched from a Laura Ashley wallpaper sample.

Dead salmon is lovely! As is smoked trout

Clunch (F&B) has a subtle green tone to it, but is also warm. I have it earmarked for my hallway.

We have clunch in our bedroom, really lovely but totally depends on the other colours in the room as they really seem to affect the tones that come out. It looks great with our blue/green accessories, white bed linen and our white shutters, but before we had the shutters installed we had green/grey blinds and it made the colour look quite dingy. I thought I'd made a mistake with the colour until the blinds came down.

We are going to get a tester pot of clunch and shaded white 👍

Going against the grain a lot bit but my previous hall was painted a fabulous bright deep raspberry colour and I used to get so many compliments on it.

It works really well with lots of different colours, including all the vintage wishy washy ones (think of the bright pink flower in a classic cath kidson pale blue background floral pattern). White really pops out next to it as does wood, and if you put other pale colours against it like pale duck egg or beige or greeny grey they really sing.

Colour needs to be as bright as cyclamen but without as much blue. But likewise not so much orange in it to warm it up that it turns into terracotta.

Will see if I can find the colour I'm thinking of in daylight!

Ours is Kelp by Dulux. It's grey/green/blue (light duck egg, really)

I'm also trying to decide on hallway colour, mine is quite dark though.

I am sick of cream and beige shade though and am currently liking Little Green Paint co Delicate Blue .
I have sent for a sample of Mylands paint that is meant to be the dogs bollocks for a scrubbable paint

I love Little Greene French grey, and also LG Tusk. We have the latter in our bedrooms and it's such a lovely subtle colour.

Egyptian cotton by Dulux. Grey but still warm. We have it in the living room and the hall.

We have f&b slipper satin in all out living space and hall. It's lovely and warm even on a really grey day.

I also have Egyptian Cotton but its beige in my hall .

Just be careful with F&B in a hall - I subscribe to all the hype about pigmentation etc but if you have children and bloody sticky or dirty fingers its not very durable, it marks very easily and it very difficult to clean.

Should have said I went for the f&b modern emulsion as it wipes really well.

I like rum caramel 5 by dulux! Whole house is that colour
