Where is cheep but nice to live...

Hi.im in Bicester ,far to near Bicester village...tentatively thinking of moving the brood somewhere where house prices are much cheaper and with more going on than just designer shops,that even if I could fit in to the clothes ,I couldn't afford...sooo any ideas where in the uk is cheaper than here, and a nice place to raise a family....I'm sick of having a whopping great mortgage for a poky house.

What is your budget, what sort of house do you need, how easy is it to transfer your job? or where do you need to commute to?

Liverpool. We recently moved here after changing jobs and just exchanged on an end terrace 6 bed house for 158k. The schools are lovely so far, the people are very friendly, public transport is good, and there is lots of £££ bring invested in the city as a whole so things are on the up. Close to lovely beaches and countryside, too.

Hull.

We live just outside Hull, £250pcm cheaper than when we loved just outside Coventry.
Hull is a fab city. Great schools, beautiful parks, right near seaside resorts, brilliant Universities etc.

Well ,job wise we can get a transfer...and house wise looking for 5 bed with large garden....wouldn't of thought of Liverpool...is there nice parks and days out

So what would a average 5 bed cost in hull or Liverpool please... Just a rough guess

Check out rightmove or zoopla, but I would say roughly 200k upwards if you want a large garden. The large houses exist at cheaper prices in the city itself, but most have "yards" ei postage stamps that are fully paved over. Look at the Wirral or possibly further North into Southport, a lovely town. Good train links into the city.

Plenty of nice things to do. We've lived here for several months and barely scratched the surface. Manchester isn't far, either so that's another option.

Southport. I think I went there as a child...problem is I've not been to many places and I've no relatives anywhere. So this is like a needle in a haystack ,and I guess no where is perfect...I suppose I need to visit some places and get a feel for them.

I lived in bicester years and years ago - it does feel a bit soulless.

South Wales. Lovely beaches, Brecon Beacons nearby, beautiful.

Yes rainbow.....we were getting an out of town retail park,but for some reason the council stopped it.but approved 27 more shops for Bicester village.it is soul less. U wouldn't recognise the place now....sooooo many more houses...and the town center is just coffee shops cheep tat shops and chArity shops...no kids clothes no shoe shop

Cheep, huge, half hour walk to Cleethorpes beach, half hour to major city, 10 minutes from Grimsby, which isnt a bad little town.

Lincoln has quite a lot going for it, plenty of green open spaces and things going on.
There is a 5 bed house with offers over 200k

Highlands. Amazing schools with tiny classes and 6 bed house next door with huge garden only 275k (and sea views).

I work in London, and live in the Peaks. My house cost £160,000 last year, it would be at least five times that where I work.

Highlands has crossed my mind ....and Lincoln is a lovely town I believe.....we could literally pick anywhere. ....but it took me 7 years to settle in Bicester,...even after 20 yrs dos the really feel like home....I wonder if that is because I've no relatives here

Peaks where? Won't that take a long time to get to london

Anywhere in the Midlands except the few pricy enclaves of commuter land. Somewhere like Hinckley, not too big, but not too grim either, loads going on, and easy reach of both Coventry/Leicester and places like the National Forest and the Peak district. Parks and genuine countryside too. About the only thing that's not nearby is the seaside and Waitress. Are you thinking city/town/village?
