I have a long term dream/plan to leave London in the next 5-10 years and move somewhere more rural/quiet. I have no family in the UK, and my work can be done anywhere as long as there is a good broadband connection as I would by then be completely self employed. Unlikely to ever have kids so schools are not an issue.
Budget would be around £350k max to become mortgage free and still have savings left.
I'd want at least a 3 bed detached house with a large garden - enough to grow some veg, probably... I prefer older houses to new builds but not that fussy really. A quiet location but not completely isolated. Not in a flood risk area but otherwise I'd like to be close to water (maybe on top of a hill if it's an area that has floods). Would want the house to be somewhere I can look out of the window and see some fields or trees or the sea.
A reasonably "nice" area - I don't necessarily need chi chi coffee shops but I don't want to have to walk past the local drunks on my way to the shops, either. The whole idea would be to escape the grit and noise of London. Somewhere with a bit of a community feel but where people on the whole keep themselves to themselves, probably...
Proximity to a slightly creative town or city would be a bonus.
Obviously this is all hypothetical at the moment but I'd love to have some actual places in mind to perhaps start visiting and checking out.
