We are renovating our house to sell. Please tell me which kitchen you would like most in a house. Thank you

First one tho I like second the third would be a deal breaker for me

lighteningirl · 11/12/2015 13:32

Oh and I hate granite too you won't see the money back on a renovation project.

Sparklycat · 11/12/2015 13:37

Number two, looks like it wouldn't date.

lugo40 · 11/12/2015 13:37

This is really very helpful, thank you.

There is no kitchen at all at the moment, we have a temporary kitchen hooked up in a bedroom and where the kitchen should be has always been a large empty space, so there has to be a degree of planning in order to get the kitchen in. kitchens 2 and 3 are actually the same kitchen just painted in a different colour. I tried to pick wooden painted kitchens so that colours can easily be changed and simple designs to appeal to most people. The area the house is in will mean it sells for around 1.2 million so i do think we need to put a fairly high quality kitchen in in order to reflect the sale price of the house. Like you say, its just making sure we don't do anything too personal to us and not going too made with the cost. It is more that it looks high quality than necessarily costing a lot - which i think can normally be achieved through clever design and expensive tiles/handles/flooring/worktop.

All lovely, prefer darker work tops. Depending on state of current kitchen I'd recommend not spending loads of money changing things. Likely that people purchasing will want to put their own stamp on the house and may hate what you do, also the value added to the house with a brand spanking new kitchen doesn't always add up to the added value to your eventual sale price.

Not trying to be a negative nancy, I'm an estate agent and seen people spend a fortune and see little back! just want you to maximise profit and reduce costsGrin

possum18 · 11/12/2015 13:40

Ahh X post sorry, yea you definitely need a kitchen and for that price range high spec and sleek is the way to go - maybe just make it as neutral as deemed appropriate so it is easy for buyers to imagine what they would want to do or change to make it their own without a load of work!

OnePlanOnHouzz · 12/12/2015 19:42

For what it's worth .... The lighthouse (1 ) is new and is very expensive IME not has anyone asked me for that yet !
The Suffolk (2) in standard finish used to be the one I was drawing most - now the Suffolk in optional extra colour range, charcoal (3) is more requested than the standard finish in bigger rooms with lots of natural light ...
Hope that helps !

Kieron79 · 12/12/2015 20:36

3 by a country mile if was looking to stay in it personally but to sell on no.2

Parietal · 12/12/2015 20:46

our house is modern so 1 would be appropriate. but if the house style is old (e.g. victorian) then 2 would be better.

SheRunsWithScissors · 12/12/2015 20:51

Can I ask where the black cabinets in number 3 are from? We are looking for similar.

OnePlanOnHouzz · 12/12/2015 21:40

Neptune Suffolk - they are all Neptune - they are made in China and shipped over in container loads. So sometimes that CDM mean a long lead time or slight colour variations - but it's all nice quality !

OnePlanOnHouzz · 12/12/2015 21:41
  • can - not CDM !!
lugo40 · 12/12/2015 21:51

thats interesting oneplanonhouzz, thank you!

Ikea actually do a black kitchen which is solid wood called the laxarby. We went to look at it today but its quite a different shade of black if thats possible, its a very black black whereas the neptune is more a dark grey appears a bit warmer... but the ikea one is much cheaper.

Number 2.

We bought a house in October with a black kitchen and are just in the process of changing it.

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/12/2015 22:18

Can I recommend DIY Kitchens. They do painted kitchens in your own choice of colour. However they don't offer a design or fitting service and you order on line, unless you can get to their show room in Yorkshire. Just had mine done and for the cost, about £10000 which included all the cupboard and intergrated dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, Fridge Freezer, sink taps, etc quartz worktop and fitting I think it was a relative bargain.

Chose them because of cost and the fact I couldn't find a bad review of their painted kitchens.

dynevoran · 13/12/2015 02:56

I would prefer number 3 but probably to sell I would do number 1.

I do love dark lower units but think dark blue is much warmer. These are my dream doors.

If I were selling then I would go for number two but for personal preference number 3 is very similar to what I am having in my new extension. I've found The shaker kitchen company online and their range rivals the likes of DeVol etc for much less, particularly liking the anthracite painted one.

Mydearchild · 13/12/2015 07:27

Also to add we are going for Carrara marble worktops, belfast sink & Perrin & Rowe taps. Trying to do the best quality possible for the lowest price!

lugo40 · 13/12/2015 07:49

Your kitchen sounds lovely and just what we're trying to Create with the high quality items but for as less as possible. I like the shaker kitchen company so will explore that further, thank you- please share photos of yours when it's done x

My least favourite is 2.
I like shiny glass and wooden worktops. And id go for white if selling - usually looks bigger and cleaner.

CakeThat · 13/12/2015 08:35

They're all gorgeous but 2 has the edge for me - it's the most classic. The dark one is lovely in the picture but I think in reality it would be too dull, unless it is a particularly light room.

Mydearchild · 13/12/2015 09:01

Sadly mine won't be complete until summer but I have a vision of a darker island then the other base/wall cabinets in a light grey. The shaker kitchen co will make bespoke units too which will give us more options. Their fb page is good for inspiration (no I don't work for them!!). I am going for this look

The first one. I actually like clinical looking kitchens. If I had bought a house with the third one the first thing I would do is buy new cupboard doors and drawers. I just don't think that black has any place in a kitchen and it makes it dark and dismal looking.
