Hoping the plan attaches. I was appreciate any feed back on my plan. First house, first kitchen of my own.

Colour is slightly off. Door is this one: www.ikea.com/ie/en/products/kitchen-products/cabinet-doors-fronts-panels/bodbyn-door-grey-art-30221043/

I love the grey IKEA kitchen but couldn't use it because my room is too dark and it would have looked like a dungeon! How are you brightening yours up?

TreeBird16 · 12/11/2015 11:03

This one is better!

Hi BBQueen. I'm not sure. I'm at a loss about walls and floor. Its a bright room though. The window spans from wall to wall and the back door will be all glass.

I actually think a wooden floor would be nicest but my husband is fiercely opposing that idea

One thing to bear in mind - if you're having integrated appliances, then buy the dishwasher from IKEA too! We made the mistake of getting a Bosch and have had no end of problems with the IKEA workaround hinge. Essentially, non-IKEA dishwashers don't fit the IKEA kitchen (IKEA doesn't use standard measurements) and they have a strange hinge device designed to allow you to use other brands of dishwasher. It doesn't work. We have the repair people coming back for the third time next week - the hinge has broken three times, the door keep falling off and I'm going grey as a result!

TreeBird16 · 12/11/2015 11:18

Brilliant advise Freckled. IKEA dishwashers are not much dearer than hightstreet ones so might be worth getting to avoid the hassle you are having.

I am getting a range and hood elsewhere.

I also intended on getting an integrated microwave and integrated fridge/freezer from elsewhere.

We're getting that kitchen too, but with wooden work yops. Get all the extra bits, handles, taps etc elsewhere.

I'd consider losing that extra single cupboard between the cooker hood and window unless you really need the storage space. I think it looks a bit tagged on an the end and it possibly would seem lighter and less claustrophobic in there without it. Just my opinion though.

Have you been to IKEA? And seen all the drawer inserts? Also get these cover caps for £1 m.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/art/00226315/

lalalonglegs · 12/11/2015 11:43

I think it looks good. I would question how much use breakfast bars are (I'd probably put some shallow cupboards there instead) but that's a purely personal misgiving, no doubt lots of MNers will be along to say they can'tc ole without theirs Smile

Madblondedog · 12/11/2015 11:46

Is it just the dishwasher that needs the be purchased from Ikea, can the built in ovens and everything else be bought elsewhere?

TreeBird16 · 12/11/2015 11:48

There is a radiator there lalalonglegs otherwise I would have returned the cabinets around that corner. I think i am very short on counter space so am hoping to breakfast bar will help with that. We do have a dining room also but the breakfast bar may be handy getting the kids fed before school.

Thats ylimintin. Thats exactly what I need. A fresh set of eyes on it! I don't know if I do need the extra storage. I'll edit the plan see see what I think then. I like the white worktops but am a little worried about staining.

Those cover caps look good. I live about a mile from an ikea so can add to the kitchen very easily

Next to the cooker you seem to have an 800 drawer unit & a 200 cupboard

Is that the best use of the space or would a 600 & a 400 work better? (not sure what you put in a 200)

I love the tall cupboard by the door

ylimintin · 12/11/2015 11:52

I'm not sure about integrated fridges, but they only make doors for their own dishwashers. Ovens and microwaves are fine to buy elsewhere though as they don't need a door front. We have to buy a Belfast sink from IKEA too, as their cupboard specifically fit them.

Katymac · 12/11/2015 11:53

If the cooker is moveable I might do 400, cooker, 800?

Katymac · 12/11/2015 11:53

They do an ordinary under sink cupboard you can put an inset sink on....

poocatcherchampion · 12/11/2015 11:55

We bought an integrated dishwater from ao and just added the IKEA door using the kit supplied with the dishwasher. No probs and no hinge required.

Katymac · 12/11/2015 11:57

Is the widnow the entire wall above the sink?

If not I might consider wall units on the breakfast bar wall and having lower cupboards over where the microwave is & more worksurface

TreeBird16 · 12/11/2015 11:58

Katymac you're a gem. That 20cm press was meant as spice rack but I can do the same thing with one 40cm one with pull out wire trays and it looks much neater!

poocatcherchampion - was that the new IKEA kitchen range or the old one? We fitted our IKEA kitchen this year - it's the new METOD range that's causing problems. I think the old FAKTUM system worked fine.

TreeBird16 · 12/11/2015 11:59

Yeah Katy - its literally wall to wall window

We had no problem with non-IKEA oven and fridge. The washing machine is a bit tricky - it fits ok-ish, but has on one occasion burst out of the integrated unit and vibrated its way into the middle of the floor.

I might err on the side of caution and get an IKEA integrated washing machine if you are having one that's integrated.

ylimintin · 12/11/2015 12:01

Have you booked an appointment to see one of their kitchen design people, we went last month and the lady we saw was excellent, picked up loads of flaws in my design straight away and added about £1K worth of fancy taps, kickboards and panels to my estimate

Katymac · 12/11/2015 12:02

I think that if you put some cupboards by the breakfast bar you might get more worksurface by the MW still

How much cupboard space do you currently have & how much more do you want?

TreeBird16 · 12/11/2015 12:10

I did yliminitin a couple of months ago but i've since decided on a range so that plan changed significantly.

At the time i was thinking integrated double oven and hob over drawers. I have another appointment on Nov 28th and intend on using her to check it mainly and I will buy that day.

I have a laundry room so no washing machine in the kitchen

Katymac i have been renting for 10 years and all the houses i've lived in have had the shittiest kitchens imaginable. And all had feck all storage. So I am mad for storage :-)

I was considering glass wall cabinets over the breakfast bar but may see how it looks and add them after.

We are a family of 2 adults, 2 kids. And i cook a lot

OnePlanOnHouzz · 12/11/2015 12:18

Be careful that the drawers next to DW don't hit what ever is holding the breakfast bar up ... You need to be able to take drawers out sometimes go clean them ! An alternative would be highline cabinet there - if it's a 600 cabinet - use two narrower doors on it - and have drawers in the new 400 cabinet instead Smile

namechangedtoday15 · 12/11/2015 13:26

I'd lose both the wall units to be honest unless you're desperate for the space, I think it will make a big difference to how open the kitchen feels.
