Ours has been a long time coming, planning permission was granted 18months ago, but our builders finally start on Tuesday.
Would be great to have some build buddies Grin

All foundations done and the first bricks laid today. Hooray!

Looking forward to seeing it start to take shape now

Still not ordered bi folds or roof lanterns but plan to go looking at the weekend

Bathroom ordered, kitchen nearly agreed upon...

321rd · 13/10/2015 00:14

We haven't even ordered our kitchen yet!!!Shock I think we are very close to tho. Builder said today that it's going to be a full 16weeks. ( originally thought 14, we lost a week due to weather and now he reckons another week to finish ) but me & DH always thought/ planned for it to take longer so no major stress.

Mum2KSS · 13/10/2015 11:36

we're 2 months into an 8 month project - single and double story extension at back - playroom/study (single) and kitchen/dining with master bedroom/ensuite above and complete renovation for the rest with rewiring/windows etc and then a loft conversion to finish it all off! money is flowing like water at the moment but it is all very exciting as this will be our forever house God willing - we have moved out which is making life ALOT easier :)

Karcheer · 13/10/2015 18:55

Foundations on the carport bit all filled with concrete today.

My builder asked me what I want to do regarding the shower downstairs, now we aren't 100% sure how big the gap for it is going to be exactly, but quite wide. I would like to bath the dogs in it, so not sure if a wet room is the right idea, or is anything else just too old fashioned?

Our garage extension foundations were dug today. Tomorrow they'll be filled with concrete. How was everyone else's day?

Sub level brickwork progressing nicely, very noisy and dusty due to lots of brick sawing today.

Karcheer · 15/10/2015 18:29

Not a huge amount of progress today the foundations for the garage extension were concreted as planned.
Tomorrow they are doing some plumbing waste pipe stuff, but mainly waiting for the concrete to dry off a bit as he hasn't dried as much as they'd hoped due to the cold. So going to be a bit quiet till Monday I reckon.
Setting up meetings with the architect/builders/surveyor for next week. The builders have questions ;)

Since starting in Monday we have no roof at all no chimney and today there was a major worry that all the ceilings upstairs may have to come down! Which would have meant moving out with the two little ones. They the builders and architects have a solution but we will only know next week if it's successful.

Louise43210 · 15/10/2015 19:36

We're having a two storey side extension running the depth of the house and more. Two bedrooms upstairs. Garage, shower room, laundry room downstairs. Children desperate for individual bedrooms! (Or I am more likely!) Can't wait. Bottom rows of bricks started but they seem to do nothing for days then loads in one day. All very baffling! They were also vague about the finish date which worries me. I'm sure if they saw the state of our overcrowded kids bedrooms they would feel pity and hurry up for us!

Karcheer · 15/10/2015 20:43

louise our builders seem to be the same! either loads going on, too many lorries to come up our single track road etc or just one lonely apprentice sweeping or hosing things down.

Karcheer · 16/10/2015 17:52

Very quiet day today, just tidying and some temporary drainage which means we've our shower and washing machine working this weekend.
On Monday the builders, architect and structural surveyor have a meeting so that's good.

We had the new sub floor put in today for the whole L shape extension, and one wall of the single storey rear extn built awaiting inner thermal block. Lot's of progress this week so v happy.

Due to all the brick cutting most of plants in the rear garden are covered in red dust so it looks really messy out there now.

Karcheer · 16/10/2015 20:42

aesop we only need one rain shower and it'll look all green again.

Like this Karcheer? I want one of these and I don't even have dogs!

We still don't know when the builders will start, just a few weeks they reckon. We've decided that we will have a new kitchen and mud room after all so frantically trying to pull some ideas together now.

tigerfeet that's lovely but it'll have to be useable for humans too!

Can I join in too? Week 5 of a single storey extension and walls down between kitchen and dining room. I think, or hope, we've reached peak mess at the moment as the walls are all propped up waiting for steels to go in on Tuesday. Electricians came this morning to discuss the lighting. Really helpful actually as I didn't know quite where to start.
I find all the decisions mind blowing as I can deliberate for hours over a shade of lipstick and yet in the past 2 weeks I've spent thousands of pounds on range cookers, cooker hoods, flooring... all with gay abandon. I even think I've chosen a kitchen. I'm trusting the universe and my Pinterest board that it will all come together.
It so good to feel that others are in the same boat.

AesopsMables · 17/10/2015 16:02

Welcome in Marylou2

So. I think we have decided on bifolds and roof lantern today. Looked at Origin and Shuco for doors and prefer the Shuco as the joints are a little thinner and we have the time to order. V impressed with the look of both though. Quote is approx £1700 above what we budgeted for so will be shopping around to see if we can get any kind of discount.

321rd · 17/10/2015 17:09

Hey everyone. Feeling v peeved about living in a building site today...it's cold I can't find anything i need, everything is covered in dust, the whole house in a complete mess. Really feel like crying today. And the bloke who was supposed to be sorting tr kitchen out who was coming round today-after cancelling/postponing a few other times text two hours before he was due to say he couldn't make it. Thanks very much. Argh, I'm really pissed off today. SorrySad

piapiapiano · 17/10/2015 17:15

We're coming to the end of our 2 storey extension, it's been just over a year, but we had the shell built and have done the rest ourselves, and we've also reconfigured and redecorated throughout.
It's been great reading all about the new ones going up, I think you'll be amazed how quickly the buildings go up once the footings are in.
For those of you choosing doors, do shop around. We saved £2000 plus on the doors we bought just by trying different companies.
Good luck everyone, I look forward to reading in the coming weeks how you're all doing.

Louise43210 · 18/10/2015 10:37

Its great reading all this! Piapiapiano (funny name!) Where did you get your doors in the end please?

piapiapiano · 18/10/2015 12:09

Louise we found a company on line maybe uk bifold? bifold direct? fast bifold? bifold uk? Sorry we had so many quotes that I can't remember which one it was. We knew which doors we wanted (Origin) so it was just a matter of getting different quotes for the same doors.
The company we used had at the time a special offer, % off if you order before a certain date, although I'm sure they all have special offers at some point.

321rd Brew

Feeling for you; we have it all to come!

Having decided to go for a new kitchen and put a utility in after all, we are currently doing the rounds of kitchen shops etc. I think I'm going for the hob on a peninsula rather than an island. Any one else done that?

Karcheer · 20/10/2015 18:52

Evening, the first row of bricks (which will be underground) have been laid today, foundation for the garden wall dug, loo arrived ;)
Tomorrow I'm going out with the builder to look at bricks.

I went to look at tiles and a bathroom vanity from Neptune I like today.

Apparently rain tomorrow...

Wow , you get taken to all the best places !! I remember being so impressed with the bricklayers. They work so quickly. And it's great coming home seeing such progress.

McBaby · 20/10/2015 19:29

All stopped for at least a week. We have no roof at all and it's cold. But a major screw up by the architect designing something that just doesn't work with our house means we are now waiting for new calculations and 3 new steel beams to be ordered and delivered! Then we have to have the loft floor relayed before they can start building again.
