Ours has been a long time coming, planning permission was granted 18months ago, but our builders finally start on Tuesday.
Would be great to have some build buddies Grin

Today the ensuite and dressing room walls went up. The bedroom wall nearly went up but the builder and I decided it felt way to claustrophobic, so we are moving them, this does mean the wall behind our bed will be all funny angles and quite low, but I think it'll be better :/
Hopefully ordering our final vanity unit, just waiting on a cost and decided nickel is lovely but too yellow compared to the silver on our bath.

How have your days been?

Our electrics have gone into the new space and it is in the process of being plasterboarded. Stud walls going up too so getting an idea of the space properly.

With fingers crossed the kitchen might go in in a couple of weeks time which is very exciting!

Karcheer · 23/03/2016 21:35

Today the wall to stop you falling down the stairs in the garage went up.
And some roof tiles went on.
Windows being installed tomorrow, and the bathroom radiators and shower valves being delivered.

Today we had the windows installed.
We aren't entirely watertight due to the new steel I've decided to have in the kitchen... So now I've a new leak, I hope another ceiling doesn't fall in :/

Sounds like things are moving on well karcheer we've had foundations dug and concrete in over last 2 days. All blocks delivered today so imagine big changes over next few days as they get out of the ground. Still ignoring the idea of how messy breaking through will be blissfully!

AesopsMables · 26/03/2016 09:59

Karcheer that sounds like a busy day!

Not a lot happening here as we are waiting for the screed to dry out so we can then lay tiles. Builder said it would be OK to tile 2 weeks after laying but tiler is refusing to start until mid April. It has been down since 7th March and still getting damp patches popping up in different areas so we are v pleased to have outsourced the tiling Hmm

Groundworker has built our patio base and it is huge, he is here today finishing the paving to the side.

Getting really fed up not having a kitchen now. It is so hard to eat healthy regular meals and I am craving ice in drinks/stir fried veggies along with missing my dishwasher. Roll on 4 weeks.

Is anyone still going?

Tomorrow we have one of the last two steels being installed.
We had to go back to the window people today as the lead on the windows isn't correct. Which is very annoying! And have decided to put an opaque sticker on the bathroom window as the glazier couldn't do what I wanted...

Still going for another 3 months at least! Roof is going on over double side extension. And the temporary kitchen we had set up a month ago is still working well :)

NoMoreMissusNiceGuy · 07/04/2016 22:14

We're done bar the painting!
The builder was here this morning doing a small bit of screed on the kitchen floor and plastering some joins where the basin plumbing was done in the new downstairs WC.

The first foundations for the kitchen extension were dug on the 11th January and that's it all finished including the kitchen fitting which the builder's carpenter has done to a very high standard.
Just need flooring, and paint on the walls, both of which I will be employing someone else to do as we didn't need to use our contingency fund so I am splashing out Grin

Mum2KSS · 08/04/2016 08:37

we're still going - loft floor has had doors, skirting and coving done yesterday - needs final coat of paint to walls and bathroom fitting...
the rest of the house still needs a fair amount of work - getting there, slowly but surely!

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 08/04/2016 19:18

We've had a first coat of paint on the plaster and all the lights are in. Kitchen is in the process of going in - minor issue today where the fridge is wider than the dimensions stated and it doesn't fit in the gap!

Everything else going to plan.

wild it looks fab!

I've made a big design decision which I'm unsure of... Thoughts?

I'll start by saying dh has ALOT of clothes and shoes far more than me.

Anyway we have a dressing room in our new room.
We also had space for a 100mm wardrobe and a store room outside our room that we'd wffectively use as a loft as our loft space is long but not very high so you can only really store things as long as you can reach for them.
The new store room would be a reasonable size.

My builder suggested and I think he's probably right that we should make the whole store room accessible from the bedroom and have it as a second dressing room and just add a few more loft access doors.

We have stairs from the old part of the house to,the new, and the insulation is being put in.

Hey Karcheer hows it going? are you all done? We're currently tiling bathrooms and painting - kitchen is still left to build although it is all onsite now...

Mum2KSS · 13/06/2016 14:08

What happened to this thread?!! Did everyone's extensions finish at the same time?!

Mum2KSS · 28/07/2016 09:47

Moving in on Friday - Yay!!!

Karcheer · 28/07/2016 13:06

Haha no! Ours is still ongoing!
We have the plasterer in at the moment, so it is getting there...

Mum2KSS · 28/07/2016 13:29

Good luck! ours has taken 11.5 months !! eek!! well worth the wait though Smile

namechangedtoday15 · 28/07/2016 14:32

Anyone got any photos of complete extensions to keep me sane? We're about 4 months in to a double storey extension - builders have been brilliant, but lots is happening now with electrics / plumbing / building new walls etc. They need decisions about where light switches go / plug sockets / radiators etc - its quite stressful. Everything and I mean everything is covered in dust. We have no bathroom (just a toilet and sink with cold water downstairs). I am forced to go to the gym to shower. There is crap everywhere, and crap on top of the crap. I am losing the will!!! We have about 6 weeks to go I think - going away in a couple of weeks but for the first time, feel overwhelmed with it all.

Mum2KSS · 28/07/2016 15:43

NameChanged we move in tomorrow so will take some pics - we also had a double storey extension plus loft conversion and porch and the rest of the house was completely gutted and redone, including rebuilding internal walls. Don't wish to scare you but another 6 weeks sounds a bit too ambitious....

namechangedtoday15 · 28/07/2016 16:01

Noooo!! Don't say that! Although I appreciate it won't be finished completely, just that the dust might have settled, it might be ready to paint, might have a working kitchen!!

We're still living there - have done throughout - the novelty at the start has worn off, and we're still too far away to get excited. Just in that shabby bit in the middle Smile

How exciting that you're moving in tomorrow!! Lovely!

Pigleychez · 28/07/2016 16:47

We have got been granted planning permission for a rear kitchen extension and a new utility room to the side. Currently getting builders quotes which is a nightmare... so many dont get back to you or just dont turn up to quote at all! So frustrating!

Karcheer · 28/07/2016 18:43

Yep we are in month 10 and still going strong.

Anyone know anything about door locks?
