Ours has been a long time coming, planning permission was granted 18months ago, but our builders finally start on Tuesday.
Would be great to have some build buddies Grin

We bought our shower head from Amazon of all places, the other bits an online site. If you're struggling let me know and I'll go rooting around the spreadsheet tomorrow and find out for you!

Wombat87 · 28/12/2015 22:52

We did ours online because it was cheaper btw. The only thing with controls outside is I like to start cool and work up to hot and work back down. If it was outside I'd have to move which just wouldn't do. Depends on how you like to shower :) we contemplated it though

Madblondedog · 29/12/2015 08:55

We went with an aqua lisa dual headed shower. It's one that on here people have said is more likely to break as it's a bar control but I loved it too much and am happy to risk it. We bought everything from Victorian plumbing online, I spent a while looking around for the cheapest place though.

I know what you mean about wishing the builders were still around as at least then there would be progress. We've got a lot to get on with separate to the extention and I would like to get it all done as soon as possible

Wish I could click my fingers and be past all the hard work

Madblondedog · 01/01/2016 09:53

Happy new year to you all, fingers crossed this is the year of all our work being finished and saying goodbye to the builders Smile

Wombat87 · 01/01/2016 10:04

Happy new year Mad and all. May your projects however big or small run smoothly, on time and on budget!!

GnomeDePlume · 01/01/2016 11:12

Hey, happy new year from me as well. We have tidied away Christmas (it is our New Years Day tradition to get Christmas tidied up).

Now cant wait for the builders to return so that we can press on with the extension.

AesopsMables · 01/01/2016 12:03

Happy New Year my fellow doer uppers! May 2016 bring you health/happiness/bouncing baby(Wombat) and finished homes!!

Packing up the kitchen today ready for the full removal of cupboards next week!

3 more days then builders all back so we should make the most of it.

Madblondedog · 01/01/2016 18:20

Day one of 2016 and I've just found a massive damp patch on an internal wall (backing on to a bathroom), can't seem to find the source but the bathroom floor under the lino is sodden. Wasn't planning to replace that bathroom any time soon either Sad

Wombat87 · 01/01/2016 18:42

Mad we had that!! Internal wall which housed shower pipes. One of the connections wasn't right. It had literally been trickling for about 2 weeks before it worked its way to the plaster/through my new paint work. Absolutely horrific and I hope it's nothing to expensive for you to fix

Karcheer · 01/01/2016 19:24

mad I hate to overshadow your damp patch... but our study ceiling fell in this morning!

OP posts:
Madblondedog · 01/01/2016 19:58

Oh shit karcheer, how did that happen? I hope no one was underneath.

wombat I'm actually wondering if it's my heavy mopping and there was a gap in the lino (may be being too optimistic)

Karcheer · 01/01/2016 20:24

I'm guessing the wind blew a hole in the cover and then the rain came threw :/

Had to text builder and he's coming tomorrow to make it safe :/

Madblondedog · 02/01/2016 11:24

Oh that's so annoying. Fingers crossed the builder gets it sorted!

We've got a very old lean to off the back (which is coming down for the next extension to start) and I've just found a lose plank on the scaffolding has smashed the glass roof and it's very wet in there now. Not sure what to do, it's coming down anyway but worried it might damage the rest of the house by being wet.

Wombat87 · 02/01/2016 13:46

Unless it's built into the house (like into walls/floors) I wouldn't worry. Just keep an eye on it until it comes down/your builders come back.

Do you have a dehumidifier? We've got one and it's been a godsend. Was a bit pricey but with all the damp, water and God knows what else it was worth it. About £80 on Amazon. If you've got one or plan to get one, let it run constantly in any room with damp/wet. Will dry it out nicely. Took about 5 days for our leaky wall though.

Karcheer · 02/01/2016 18:32

He says it's sorted but he's coming back tmr to check, it's too dark in there for us to look, so will need to wait till tmr, the covers are all really blowing in the wind.
When's this darn rain due to stop?

I think we are getting close with bathrooms. I think we are going with burlington for the sanitary wear and crosswater belgravia for taps showers etc. although I'm really tempted to get a digital system for our ensuite so I can lay in bed and turn the bath and shower on

For the downstairs shower room and family room (which it's attached too) I'm thinking the porcelanosa wooden tiles, which my In laws have throughout their house and they are very pleased with.

Wombat87 · 02/01/2016 22:35

I will forever hate you if you have a remote system to turn on your shower with. Hate you. I swear.

AesopsMables · 03/01/2016 10:52

Karcheer remote control shower and bath sounds dangerous to me. I would turn it on then roll over and fall back to sleep I just know it! Does the bath have a sensor when filling so it auto turns off when full?

Hope all houses have weathered the storms of late and are OK.

Spent all day yesterday boxing up the kitchen cupboards, DH thinks I am a hoarder as I refuse to throw out some plates and bowls that I got when I bought my very first house (27yrs ago) they are totally impractical Aynsley china with a metallic edge so cannot be microwaved and I have not used them for years but cannot and will not throw them out. Oh, and the gravy boat has gone missing but found the stand to it? All cupboards are empty now and that damn gravy boat is nowhere to be found, DD's and DH swear they have not broken it - Has anyone else misplaced or lost anything during all the mess? My obsession with gravy boat hunt continues today...

Karcheer · 03/01/2016 11:24

aesops yes on my parents one you set how deep you want it, theirs has 4 different people settings ;)

Our house appears to be more or less dry now...

I used to be a hoarder but going through this process I'm becoming more ruthless, I even threw away our dining table last week!

OP posts:
Madblondedog · 03/01/2016 19:07

wombat I'm seriously considering a dehumidifier at the moment as once the leak is finished I can use it when I'm drying washing

karcheer pleased to hear your house is drying out. Love the idea of a bath having settings for each person who lives in the house.

aesops did you solve the mystery of the missing gravy boat? I am definitely a hoarder. We moved in more than 3 months ago and we still have loads of things in boxes and they will be like that until the next extension is done. DP said if we've coped this long without what's in the boxes we should throw it out but I am strongly disagreeing.

I'm so ready to press on with the next lot of work but it means stripping wallpaper which I am not excited about.

GnomeDePlume · 03/01/2016 19:57

Hmmm I wonder if we will need a dehumidifier to dry out our extension once the roof is on. It has been open to the elements through the heavy rains.

DH will be reinstating the plasterboard partition tomorrow. This separates off the area the builders are working in from the rest of the house meaning that the builders can carry on without the dog being aware!

AesopsMables · 03/01/2016 23:12

No Mad I cannot find it anywhere and am pretty sure I did not pack it away as would have done so with the plate it comes with. Total mystery. Went on ebay and I could get a replacement for £98.00! Jeez they have gone up in price that is all I can say. My parents bought me it as a moving in pressie so it has a very special meaning. TBC...

Yes to a dehumidifier they are so good. Hired an industrial one previously for the ensuite which has no window when it was plastered, left it on for a couple of days and was bone dry.

Dreading next week. They are going to be moving the kitchen boiler upstairs to spare room and then knocking all kitchen wall and cupboards out. I have to be away from Wed to Fri on business and realize how much of a control freak I am when this happens. DH is also away for 2 of those days so the builders will be in the house alone for 48hrs. Have asked the neighbour to keep an eye on things (he just went through his own extension a year ago so that qualifies him in my eyes)

Madblondedog · 04/01/2016 10:52

Yeah I'm thinking a dehumidifier will be essential when the next extension is complete. Trying to decide whether to use the same builders or look elsewhere for the next one. On the whole they've been fantastic but a few little niggles make me wonder what's best. Might get a quote elsewhere and go from there.

aesops At least you're away whilst the kitchen is being trashed so won't have to go without cooking. Gravy boat appeared yet?

gnome I'm sure your dog would be more than willing to assist the builders Grin

Karcheer · 04/01/2016 17:57

Evening all,

I think our builder must have taken off our bathroom roof today as he seems to have locked it from the inside. It was dark when I got home, so no real idea what's been happening today...

OP posts:
AesopsMables · 04/01/2016 18:28

Evening

Things found behind/under units today when builders ripped out our kitchen (far sooner than we thought) ...

One pair of knickers (neither DD admitting this one) lodged firmly behind radiator...Could be mine Blush

A birthday card from my best friend from over a decade ago Smile

Numerous hoover bags, bin liners, batteries, birthday candles and lighters

Things not found today...

Gravy Boat Sad

Madblondedog · 04/01/2016 18:30

How strange karcheer

We've found the source of our damp....a leaking pipe under the concrete floor in the bathroom downstairs (the other side of the wall from where I found the damp). Argh, going to be a nightmare to get fixed. Plumber is coming Wednesday to do it, couldn't do it today as water has to be switched at the mains stop cock and he couldn't find it so the water board are coming tomorrow to find it.
