We promised to re-paint DD's room if she did a thorough tidy up, and now she wants it to be orange and blue.

Specifically, Festival Orange and Jazz Cafe Shock Not looking for advice particularly, it's more of 'a horror shared is a horror halved' situation. Grin

I think it could look great with white or pale furniture

Pico2 · 14/09/2015 19:04

Did you say "any colour you like"?

Gatekeeper · 14/09/2015 19:05

My son would love that!! They are his favourite colours . Might be a bit much on all walls though. Why not one wall blue, one orange and the others off white?

yomellamoHelly · 14/09/2015 19:05

That'll be a tale to tell in ten - fifteen years time. Doesn't look like bedroom colours at all to me, but I'm an old fogey.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/09/2015 19:07

I didn't exactly say "any colour you like", but before she started tidying up she stated her colour preferences and I didn't exactly say "no way".

Unfortunately she has a pine high-sleeper bed and cream built in wardrobes, neither of which we can do anything about.

I think I object to the blue the most, I think I may have had a 70s childhood clothing trauma in royal blue that I have since blocked from my mind as I really don't like that shade. She wants Chelsea blue as she supports them, and she just really likes orange.

Fuck no.

Having recently repainted a 'feature wall' in precisely that colour of blue, I have only two words for you...FOUR COATS.

jorahmormont · 14/09/2015 19:16

I'd love a blue and orange bedroom Grin colours of the New York Mets baseball team :)

bloodyteenagers · 14/09/2015 19:17

one or two wall the blue. The others white and all accessories the bright orange.

slicedfinger · 14/09/2015 19:17

I'd say fine, if it is a small room, and the other two walls are white. Or say she can choose one of the colours, have maybe bed linen in the other, and three white walls.

lalalonglegs · 14/09/2015 19:17

I think a blue with lots of grey such as stone blue with an earthy orange - orange fizz - could look amazing. Alternatively, if she is wedded to those shades, you could paint the room white and have a couple of big overlapping squares in those colours on the main wall and some cushions etc. Can you paint her bed?

colley · 14/09/2015 19:20

Sounds awful. But I would do it for her.

Pico2 · 14/09/2015 19:20

We had to paint over orange feature walls. Not as bad as the blue, but the first room to be repainted when we moved.

ChippyMinton · 14/09/2015 19:20

I love the orange, my room was that colour in the 1970s but with brown paintwork Grin
I share your pain as DD has specified purple and a particularly migraine inducing multi-coloured feature wallpaper! And purple carpet. Negotiations have stalled, as has the decorating.

HeyDuggee · 14/09/2015 19:20

if you don't actually paint two opposing colours on two walls but rather use one as the main colour and the other for accessories - lot of orange with little blue looks great
sample lot of orange with a bit of blue

Gunpowder · 14/09/2015 19:25

Ooh I think if she just chose one for paint it could look quite Moroccan and fabulous. A bit mosaic-y and warm. Agree with white/v pale woodwork etc. to stop it being oppressive.

AnnieNon · 14/09/2015 19:25

Two white walls, one blue and one orange would be fine. You could paint the room in stages and see how it looks.

I love fired earth paint but it marks easily - ok if your DD is older but it might look very scruffy very quickly if it's a younger child.

ClearBlueWater · 14/09/2015 19:28

I had one orange wall, one blue, one green and one yellow at age 15.
And red gloss radiators. Grin

NewLife4Me · 14/09/2015 19:29

I'd say yes but make sure when it got on the walls it was more apricot and very pale blue Grin
Still orange and blue, but sorry darling your colours were out of stock.

NerrSnerr · 14/09/2015 19:29

Our nursery is orange and blue as I love Finding Nemo. I love it.

BertieBotts · 14/09/2015 19:30

I wanted lilac and pale orange as a teenager, my mum said no :(

I love bright colours. Go for it!

HeyDuggee · 14/09/2015 19:32

Maybe you can talk her into turquoise blue like these

£62 for 5L of paint.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 14/09/2015 19:33

There are some nice ideas on Pinterest if you just search 'orange and blue bedroom'.

I also think it would be nice to paint one colour and use the other colour for accessories/bedding/cushions etc.

Good idea about Pinterest, I'll have a look. Perhaps a paler, greyer blue might be the one to go for.
