We promised to re-paint DD's room if she did a thorough tidy up, and now she wants it to be orange and blue.

Specifically, Festival Orange and Jazz Cafe Shock Not looking for advice particularly, it's more of 'a horror shared is a horror halved' situation. Grin

But I loved the wellies, and could live with them Grin

Use lining paper, then you can strip the walls rather than over painting.??I think those colours look fantastic. I would do orange walls and blue ceiling

But then i was a kid of the 80s my room was red, white and black

One of my dcs has an orange and green bedroom. One wall is orange, the opposite one bright green , and the two other walls are magnolia. Curtains are orange, green and cream checked material. Looks good!

wowfudge · 14/09/2015 21:42

Is she a Luton Town supporter? I think if you can work with her on the design, that could work out.

AnyoneButAndre · 14/09/2015 21:44

If my DD would tidy her room properly I'd be delighted to paint it those colours, in polka dots.

Acer77 · 14/09/2015 22:24

I think it could look really cool actually! I love the pics that brioche pinned. I agree you should paint the bed and wardrobes white though...

puffylovett · 14/09/2015 22:31

My sons room is - 1 wall scarlet (wardrobe on one side of the chimney, white ikea expedit the other), 1 wall royal blue with pine bunks, 2 white walls, red blue and white blind . 1 white wall has 4 enormous red and blue pin boards attached.

It looks ace, everyone admires it!

The key is the white painted floorboards.

I say go for it!

Acer77 · 14/09/2015 22:37

Oh yes def white painted floorboards! There are some lovely ideas on Pinterest and good ideas for colour palettes. I say embrace it!! Maybe try some darker blues to see what that would look like too...Hague blue by farrow and ball might go well with that festival orange.

Thought this about DD's room, which I painted - at her request - a bright vibrant pink with one wall a deep jade.

It actually looks pretty good (the colours, not my paint job, which is patchy at best).

Reckon the orange and blue might look great.

didireallysaythat · 14/09/2015 22:43

Can't do orange.... Easyjet checkin....

nancy75 · 14/09/2015 22:50

Googling orange & blue bedroom i found this beauty, I know it doesn't actually help but it does show she could have asked for something much worse

Gunpowder · 15/09/2015 07:44

That has to be in a brothel surely?

Gunpowder · 15/09/2015 07:45

One that specialises in mermaid fetishes obvs. Wink

fieldfare · 15/09/2015 07:52

If her wardrobe is cream, then why not dismantle the bed and spray that cream too? Then if the carpet is neutral go for the orange on the walls and have the blue as curtains and bedding.
We have a pale orange playroom and it looks lovely. I'm really fond of bright colours though.

caravanista13 · 15/09/2015 08:03

Why all this debate? She wants orange and blue, it's her room.

LittleLostRoeDeer · 15/09/2015 08:12

My bedroom as a teenager in the late 90s had orange walls in almost exactly that shade, green carpets and purple curtains. Accessorised with lots of posters with big smiley faces and Leonardo di Caprio. Funnily enough, I really struggled with insomnia as a teen...

I second the suggestion for blue and white walls with orange accessories.

BikeRunSki · 15/09/2015 08:24

But you promised! She's kept her end of the bargain, you have to keep yours! It's only paint, it's not permanent.

PurpleSkyatthewateringhole · 15/09/2015 09:07

My ds room is in similar colours.
The top third is orange. Then I painted a white stripe (off white, B&Q's bumble) of 5cms. Followed by a blue stripe of approx 10cms, another thin white stripe, a grey stripe of 5cms followed another white stripe then all blue on the bottom part of the wall. He has an orange 'snug' which is a reading corner of a blue suede toy box (actually a blanket box) underneath his bookshelves.

LittleBoxes · 15/09/2015 13:06

Two words: Irn and Bru.

Qwebec · 15/09/2015 22:43

I agree with the poster who said her room, her choice. Btw blue and orange are complementary colors.
