I'm trying to hone in on where to move to, I'm a Londoner, and my priority for the next phase is to be somewhere with nice green spaces,by a river. And also not far by train or tube from central London. I like all the typical things like waitrose and a nice high street to mooch around, too.
This will be a downsize for me, so am not quite sure about budget. I don't want much gardening, but need outside space. I've looked at weybridge online, and Thames Ditton irl.. TD is too small and quiet for me. I do want peace, but not to feel cut off.
Is there somewhere I should go visit that you can tip me off about?

From here:

www.richmond.gov.uk/chapter_1_economic_profile.pdf

"1.2.3 Areas of Deprivation
1.2.3.1 The overall perception of Richmond upon Thames is that of a comfortable Borough;
nevertheless pockets of social deprivation do exist. The most deprived wards according to
the Index of Multiple Deprivation include Ham, Hampton North, Heathfield, Mortlake and
Barnes Common, and Whitton. "

There's some pretty grotty council estates in Ham.

PetraDelphiki · 16/05/2015 17:08

Not in the grand scheme of grotty I will agree...but not all of Ham/Richmond is nice.

Just for you Petra "RBKC (Kensington & Chelsea) is London in microcosm. It has the second highest average income in London, of £36,000. However, this prosperity is not shared equally, and the borough also contains above average levels of deprivation."

Where do you live Petra? No nasty social housing and poor people? They shouldn't be allowed should they.

PetraDelphiki · 17/05/2015 15:14

I don't think I said anything of the sort. I was just responding to the people who were implying that Ham is exactly that (no nasty social housing and poor people). All of London has bits of nice and bits of not so nice. If you want to read my posts that way then that says more about your attitudes than mine.

Walnutpie · 18/05/2015 11:11

Well thanks Petra. I've been to mortlake and Barnes common many times and it doesn't feel very 'deprived'. As you say, every area of London is a mix of levels of privilege or otherwise.

Ha ha to trains from Goring to Oxford in 20 mins! I wish. There are no trains that fast. The twenty-something-minute train I used to take at 7.36 takes 54 minutes. There is nothing later than 6.34 and earlier than 8.06 that takes under 40. Seriously not happy!

Maybe house prices will fall??

irregularegular · 18/05/2015 11:21

correction, worse than that, should have said earlier than 8.36.

8.06 would be ok
