What colour is your hall/stairs/landing?

Ours is currently a horrible yellow.

Half papered & half painted.

It's getting decorated at the end of March.

It needs to be a light colour. One colour under the dado & another at the top.

Just wondering what colour to paint it. I don't like blue. Don't really want green either.

I'm just afraid I will end up with boring shades of beige!

A very pale pink It's a dulux mixed one but I can't remember what it's called. The front of the house is North west facing and the hall window and front door never get any sun. The woodwork iincluding the stair spindles are white so it looks nice and airey.

F&B strong white above dado and elephants breath below
I shall be adding the dado too

Dulux Chic Shadow (lovely mid grey)

tassisssss · 01/03/2015 20:37

Farrow and Ball string

puffylovett · 01/03/2015 22:45

F and b cornforth white on the walls. Crown aged white eggshell on the woodwork. Antique white on the ceiling. Red stripy runner up the stairs, deep red velvet door curtain.

Everybody who comes here loves it :)

FenellaFellorick · 01/03/2015 22:47

White.

It's so dark that no other colour will do.

slightlyglitterstained · 01/03/2015 23:13

Used Dulux Light & Space which does seem to make hallway lighter. Nordic Spa upstairs (no good for you OP as it's green) and I think Morning Light downstairs.

Lydiand · 01/03/2015 23:37

A mixture of duck egg, cream and grey on the bottom and white on top.

I can never find the exact colour I want, so I buy lots of tins and mix them up until I'm happy. Any that's left over gets put into an airtight container and labelled.

I don't know why more people don't mix their own colours, its very satisfying.

No dado rail so just F&B Skimming Stone colour matched in a Leyland/Johnstone's trade paint and the skirting and architrave in Dulux Trade White in Satinwood.

OinkBalloon · 02/03/2015 00:19

Magnolia with white woodwork.

IIRC I tried 27 different shades of different colours. Kept coming back to magnolia.

I love it. It's soft, and warm, and welcoming. It glows in what little sunshine comes directly tnto the space, and still looks bright even with no sunshine.

We used Johnsons scrubbable matt acrylic. Excellent stuff! Not tried scrubbing it, but most marks come off just by wiping with a damp cloth.

I finally have paint charts so will go through all your colours.

I need/want 2 colours for below & above dado.

Crown Snowfall, dark version at bottom and hint of snowfall at top. Nice grey but with a warm tone.

FacebookDramaYo · 07/03/2015 18:13

Dulux's white Matt. It's the only colour we've used bar magnolia in the front room and kitchen and blue in the babies bedroom.

WireCat · 07/03/2015 21:14

Choosing paint colours is hard work.

I have decided to go for 2 shades of brown. Not dark brown though.

I think.

Brown? That sounds odd! Link?

engeika · 10/03/2015 00:23

Farrow & ball Skylight- pale grey. Works in this space but might be too blue for you

RulerLenska · 10/03/2015 01:46

Fired Earth White Ochre, it's lovely.

I'd get rid of the dado rails personally.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 10/03/2015 15:38

Getting rid of the dado rails will cost a fortune. They're likely to take bits of plaster off when they come down and the whole stairs and landing will need to be repapered or the papered section striped back.

The OP could use the same colour top and bottom though. Ours is just brilliant white all the way through. Easy to repaint scuffs and scrapes and pictures stand out nicely.

For my money, I'd put a brilliant white on the lower section and something bright and crisp on top but a lot depends on the colours used in other rooms leading off the hallway. If the whole house is tasteful greige then a zingy lime is going to look pretty odd.
I know someone with a pale pink hallway - a nice clean baby pink rather than a grey pink and it is really inviting.

Socy · 10/03/2015 15:51

Coffee below the dado and cream above

Ragwort · 10/03/2015 15:52

Magnolia (totally dull and boring).

haggardoldwitch · 10/03/2015 16:10

I've got Elephants Breath & Skimming Stone in a bedroom, it would lovely in a hall and landing.
Ticks the brown box too.

CremeEggThief · 10/03/2015 17:46

Duck egg blue.

Kiwiinkits · 13/03/2015 00:41

gorgeous teal blue

(photo taken just after we did the floors and before we'd finished all the skirting and electrics - this was a long time ago)
