I think I want to live in Wymondham, Norfolk. Any reasons I might not want to?

It looks nice, good schools, train station. Not far from the sea.

What's wrong with it?

I was in Wymondham last week having a swim. I also dropped into the library. DH is a copper and HQ is there.

It's a fairly nice place. Bit dull but it's nice and close to Norwich. Schools great, all local MNers are fooking brilliant. I'd rather live nearer Norwich though. Some great villages with great schools.

Honeydragon · 08/02/2015 15:41

Showy, all I need is an idea of naice schools (don't have to be brilliant, just decent enough for a shy slightly geeky Ds), good transport links (no car) and some amenities in waking distance, and you could well end up with me as a neighbour Grin. I don't mind dull, Wymondham is exciting by my standards. [sad face]

I looked at Stalham, but all dhs colleagues pulled a face and went "noooooo" when we mentioned it; and apprently the high school's failing

Dare I ask about Saxemundham?

Sax-mund-um - I think.

lljkk - my mum once went to the Wymondham in Norfolk instead of the one in Leics - she lived mid way between them and was a member of a walking group who had arranged a walk at the one in Leics. When she saw the name she assumed it was the one she knew in Norfolk !

APotNoodleandaTommy · 08/02/2015 16:07

It's in Norfolk..:

Medoc · 08/02/2015 17:17

Haha- I was expecting "Sa'm'n" after Wind'm! Grin

I could say a lot good+bad about Stalham.

If you need to get to SouthEast you really want to live south of the Wensum & Yare.

Diss is very nice. Train to London and Norwich, good schools right up to A levels and a park with a lake and soft play area for little ones. We moved here from London 6 years ago and love it. We visited Wymondham with a view to buying there but didn't like it as much as Diss.

Diss has lots of supermarkets! Tesco, Morrisons and Aldi!

Honeydragon · 08/02/2015 18:51

Diss does look nice

Diss is also easy to pronounce Grin

morethanpotatoprints · 08/02/2015 20:55

Diss is mentioned in the Doomsday book, has a lovely mere and the church is beautiful.
That was the first place we lived.

When we first moved down there we visited some friends in costessey just outside Norwich, some neighbours said you ain't from round here are you?
It's pronounced cossey. Grin
My favourite of all places in Norfolk is Old/New Buckenham they have the most fantastic May day village fetes. Of course there is also Banham where I wonder do they still have the zoo and weekly car boot sale? Anyone?

Fairylea · 08/02/2015 21:00

Yes there's definitely still banham zoo which is great and the market! It's about 12 miles from Diss. It's brilliant.

Hassled · 08/02/2015 21:23

You certainly can't dis Diss. It's a lovely town.

Honeydragon · 08/02/2015 22:09

Well I can't find anywhere else better than Diss or Wymondham with a train station into Norwich and a decent secondary school.

I can't help but think I'm meant to move to Norfolk now, it certainly appears a large amount of my favourite Mnetters are in the vicinity. Grin

Looking at Diss, there's a £100k - £150k price difference compared to similar properties down here Shock I went property porning to the max we could get a mortgage for and was astounded.

I keep looking at Hethersett, but that's a bit too close to city living. I'm used to the small town life where everyone makes it their business to know yours Wink

loveableshoulder - there are Mulbarton kids at Wymondham. If you read the over subscription rules, it really is a case of whether there are spaces or not. We've recently accepted a kid from Thetford - they applied and there are spaces.

MrsJacksonAvery · 09/02/2015 00:07

Honeydragon - have PMd you.

Diss is a nice town - great for a wander.

Honeydragon · 09/02/2015 00:41

Just recieved your pm, thank you it was very helpful. (I'm going to melt the pc with property searches)

Just out of interest, those that know the area, is Norwich Common in Wymondham and ok for a child to walk to school from? Or out of Wymondham? It's hard to tell from the maps Confused

Banham where I wonder do they still have the zoo and weekly car boot sale? Anyone?

yes definitely to the zoo, and probably to the boot sales :)

justaweeone · 09/02/2015 14:05

It the distance from Norwich common to the high school is about 1.5 miles, so it is walkable.
Diss and wymondham are both lovely.
My Dd is at wymondham high sixth form and we are very pleased with the school( she previously went to Old Buckenham High, however they do not have a sixth form) We don't live in Wymondham but often visit and my Ds plays for the football team.
Norfolk is a fab place to live! We moved to Bucks for 7 years due to work but have been back in Norfolk for over 10 years as always wanted to move back.

justaweeone · 09/02/2015 15:25

The distance.... ( not It the!)
