how much did your ikea kitchen cost?

poocatcherchampion · 24/09/2014 22:36

and what is it like? what lovely extras did you think of as well?

we are going for white with oak laminate worktops, Belfast sink, integrated appliances.

approx £2.7k

another guy came round today to quote - he reckoned his offering would be £10-15k; which is £9-£14k more than my savings....

so cheer me up please

I'm very sold on the ikea stuff so am happy to go with them.

thanks!

Our was around £3k and it is brilliant, just as good as the £10k kitchen we had in our previous house. We have mostly the deep drawers which are great and two of the tall larder cupboards. I have plenty of storage and didn't use any wall cupboards which I'm really pleased about as the room looks much nicer without them

minkah · 24/09/2014 23:56

No wall cupboards! I keep all the food in wall cupboards.

Two larder cupboards instead sounds good.

Do you have a photo, milk Thistle?

minkah · 24/09/2014 23:58

I'm really tired of the fitted kitchen look, I should add.. Don't mean to hijack your thread, poocatcher!

Just on the look out for ways to do kitchen diner that's less fitted, more .....I don't know what the word would be. I like the idea of cupboards on wheels.

Solo · 25/09/2014 01:09

I'm going for the white gloss and oak worktops in Ikea kitchens too.

How big are your kitchens can I ask?

mandy214 · 25/09/2014 08:57

We had one in a previous house and it was about £2.5k I think. We've also priced one up for our new house, but decided to go elsewhere simply because we couldn't get the look we wanted, but that was about the same (although without worktops).

Great minds must think alike, I have a wall of floor to ceiling units and then a wall of just base units. No wall units and I think it'll look lovely!

NK5BM3 · 25/09/2014 09:03

Ours was about £3k too and it's fab. It included an under cupboard freezer, a pull out larder, 3 drawers that turn (in the corners). The only thing is our builder had to fit everything and drill holes in because everything is really flat pack. A lot of people have come to see our kitchen and have commented on how nice/expensive it looks.

A friend had hers done from benchmark and I think it was £10k. Her kitchen is smaller, so less storage etc. I'm happy.

EddieReadersglasses · 25/09/2014 14:21

Do ikea do a shaker style kitchen or all more modern stuff? I would love a kitchen for 3k but modern is not what I'm after

Solo · 25/09/2014 14:54

Have a look at the choices Eddie DOORS

poocatcherchampion · 25/09/2014 18:56

thanks - interesting and derail away.

I'm definitely looking for tips on making it a bit different (cheaply)

not having top cupboards is an option.
we are having legs rather than kickboards to make it look more standalone.

and non IKEA handles.

Legs rather than kick boards sounds very good.

TalkinPeace, your kitchen is lovely.

Solo · 25/09/2014 22:59

TalkinPeace it is lovely! wish mine was that size! are those the glossy doors?

EssexMummy123 · 25/09/2014 23:04

check out wickes as well

Lodgecockers · 26/09/2014 00:52

Ours was under 3k but we got quartz worktops on top, so that took the whole thing to about 5k. We have got one run of wooden worktop which is from Ikea and was part of the 3k. We went for a combination of walnut effect doors and birch, and the worktop is white quartz. I love it. Really pleased with Ikea. We've got no wall cupboards either, all deep drawers which fit masses in and 3 larder units. Also got the pull out under the sink bins thingy.

Paid the builders under 1k to fit it - which was a lot less than Ikea installation.

Friend of mine customized her ikea kitchen by getting everything bar the doors from ikea and then having her joiner make the doors. Looks great.

TalkinPeace · 26/09/2014 13:42

)))))Legs((((( : guaranteed way to accumulate crap under the back corner of the floor.
Doors are matt white with a finger grip rather than handles
Worktops are solid bamboo from online
floor ditto
all appliances were graded Neff stock from SDES
island is actually two wall cabinets back to back
most storage is drawers

fitting by a chippy was £800

the room is mine all mine : I designed it from the ground up. still love it 6 years later

SwedishEdith · 26/09/2014 13:53

We've got legs rather than kickboards. I preferred the look and it does if you were a clean and tidy person make it easier to keep the floor clean. But, I'm not sure it was cheaper - you need to buy the stainless steel legs

TalkinPeace · 26/09/2014 13:59

Grin trying to sweep right back into the two corners of my kitchen would be impossible
AND : my cats would take delight in leaving "presents" under there Wink

ch1a · 26/09/2014 14:25

I spent 2k ish. So happy. Pale grey finish with no handles and a wall of floor to ceiling units full of drawers and baskets up to eye level and shelves above up to 2.4 m tall. Also used the doors to make a door for my larder room so it's all uniform.

Only wall cupboards are open squares and one long horizontal white one. I initially went for legs not kickboards but hastily changed as too hard to clean and from the sofa you could see all the dirt under mine.

Solo · 26/09/2014 14:31

Hmmm...that's food for thought. I was considering legs as I could hide things under there to make cleaning easier! but yes! stainless steel legs could raise the price considerably.
Don't have cats or other animals unless you count the 8 legged kind :) so no worries about pets hiding or depositing anything.
Kickboards...

Do you find the legs make your kitchen feel bigger?

PrincessOfChina · 26/09/2014 14:40

Ours was about 7k, installed with all appliances included in that - we have fridge, freezer, dishwasher, extractor, cooker and induction hob.

The cost included a complete re-plaster of the kitchen and installation of new flooring.

SwedishEdith · 26/09/2014 14:45

They make the kitchen feel a little airier rather than bigger, I think. We've also not got many wall cupboards which helps as well.

Solo · 26/09/2014 14:49

Thanks SE :)

EddieReadersglasses · 26/09/2014 17:29

Thanks solo
I can't picture it- think I'll have to make a trip to ikea (2.5 hour drive from here!) but sounds promising.
Sorry for derailing op Grin
Interesting thread!

ContentedSidewinder · 26/09/2014 18:02

Right, had mine fitted last year after drooling over TalkinPeace's photos on her profile Grin In case I didn't say, I would like to thank you for your photos TalkinPeace. Thanks

I feel as though I am boring people to death with my kitchen. I am having trouble uploading so can I link you to another thread where I posted my pics here

Units all Ikea, they are all 600 wide cabinets, with pull out drawers inside and I have actually added another drawer into one of them as I worked out I could get another one in.

I have 2 larder cabinets (in grey gloss) and I turned a 92cm wall cupboard on it's side to go above the fridge freezer to box it in between the two larder cupboards (must take new photos)

I have 4 horizontal cabinets above the breakfast bar.

I used Whirlpool appliances and just cross referenced the sizes that Ikea sold so that mine would fit into the cabinets. So my price is just for the cabinets, doors and built in extractor. Appliances, sink, tap, boiling water tap, worktops were all from elsewhere.

£3448.

TalkinPeace · 26/09/2014 18:10

BlushThanks
goes all uncharacteristically fluffy Grin
