Hope it's okay that I made the next thread :)

BTW - we're on page 40 now. What's the etiquette for starting a new thread?

IUseAnyName · 20/04/2015 20:17

Very sexist!.... I hate relying on others too, with the only contact being on the end of the phone, and they sound like they're annoyed to hear from you! Maybe I'm calling my solicitor too much?

Well, now our stuff is moved in to our new house, but we're not alble to move in until completion,we have a few positive options for when we are kicked out of our rental next week :).... I have been on to the ea about trying to extend our tenancy for a week, but I'm not hopeful. I've been on to our solicitor about arranging a tenancy aggreement with our vendor to tide us over until completion... This is the best option, our vendor is happy with it, but he seems to go with whatever his solicitor says so lets hope that she is agreeable! Our third option came up today in the school play ground.... A parent friend has offered us her caravan, which we can put on another parent friend's campsite :)... Soo pleased we have this 3rd option!

It really wasn't that unusual in the mid/late 80s. In 1991 I had a job interview and the person idiot interviewing me asked me what my DH did for a living and when I was planning to have a baby Shock. I was too shocked to say "both questions were illegal" and answered the first with the truth and the second with "I would never assume I could have a baby when I wanted one"

Times have changed - thank goodness. But, even over this purchase though the EA asked why they were dealing with me and not through my husband for the offer Shock Shock - man of a certain age Hmm. I said that it was because he was very very busy and I could take calls more easily at work - instead of "because he doesn't want some prat of an EA on th phone every other day wasting his time but will always take a call from me because he trusts me only to call him when it is urgent".

IUseAnyName don't count on a tenancy agreement with your vendor. His solicitor is unlikely to agree to it. While it might be convenient for you and the vendor, the vendor's solicitor would be aware of significant risks and would have to draw up some watertight contracts. The basic problem is that tenants do acquire certain rights, i.e. if you refused to vacate at the end of the tenancy, the vendor would have to serve a Section 21 Notice and possibly initiate court proceedings to get you out (even allowing someone to store things in your home can give them rights which is why people always ask for vacant possession).

Hi all, can I ask a quick question? (sorry for jumping in!) As part of our preparation for applying for mortgage, DH & I went on Experian to check our credit score. To my surprise, mine was 'fair' (at the edge of good, i.e. 5 points below 'good') and only because of not enough credit history I think, i.e. I don't have a credit card Confused. I find it funny actually as I used to think that was a good thing, not having a credit card!

DH's is likely to be even worse for the same reason.

Anyway, any advice welcome as we're due to apply in late summer. How to improve credit score a bit before then?

cheminotte · 20/04/2015 21:20

Can you get a credit card and start using it and paying it off in full every month? Have a look at Money saving expert for advice on eligibility criteria so you don't apply for ones you won't get.

IUseAnyName · 20/04/2015 21:31

Thanks for the info spickle.... I was kind of relying on that being a real option, but maybe we should just move in to the caravan until completion! Bloody landlord has completely screwed us over :/

stillloving.... My credit reference isn't great either, due to never having a credit card or being on the electoral roll..... I'm on it now, so should make a difference. My dh has a fab credit rating, he has 2 loans and 3 credit cards :/ but he is very good a money mamagement and paying them off when needed!
I recommend getting on the electoral roll x

stilllovingmysleep · 20/04/2015 21:32

thanks yes I can do that but I worry that it may be a bit too short notice given that we would like to apply for the mortgage late summer / early autumn... Am I worrying needlessly?

IUseAnyName · 20/04/2015 21:39

I'm not sure, our mortgage is just in dh name, so I've not had to worry about mine. But I'm sure it'll be fine x

Help! Was hoping I wouldn't need this thread...

Our chain is supposed to be completing this Friday, I have provisionally booked removers, to pack Thurs and move Fri.

I really hoped we'd have exchanged by now, been waiting all day (and trying to finish getting things in order for packers/cleaning). But nothing.

I'm not going to have much time to sort things like phone, utitilies etc am I, even if it comes off? Two of us in the chain are private sales, my sol is ready, don't know about up the chain.

Sigh.

Crikeyblimey · 21/04/2015 18:23

Hi all

Hope things are not too stressy for everyone.

We exchanged today!! Grin

Completion not till 22 June (not quite built new build).

So tell me, what could go wrong between now and then? Am I ok to finally be excited or should I wait?

We are part exchanging our house with the developers if that makes a difference.

Ta

BeaufortBelle · 21/04/2015 19:30

Be very very excited :). I think things can go wrong but it's very very very rare after exchange and I think you have recourse to your expenses if so.

I am thrilled for you. This is exactly where we want to be. We have told our solicitor to go full steam ahead and get ready to exchange. Hope to next week. If the the bastard purchaser tries to reduce the price at the last minute we will use a phrase that begins and ends in f. I cannot believe how stressful the last few weeks have been and I am certain we are being "played". In my heart I know if he tries it on he will show himself up for what he might be and the rest of the chain and the agent will be spitting feathers.

Fingers crossed one and all.

IUseAnyName · 21/04/2015 20:24

Silvery I too am worried about sorting utilities out. I feel like I won't have enough time and then end up with no electricity, or be over charged :/... Also stressing about postal redirection!

Dearhound · 21/04/2015 20:28

fingers crossed for next week beau

BeaufortBelle · 21/04/2015 20:43
