Did you miss your old house after you moved?

I know we are making a good move to what could be a home for life, feels safe around there, have a friend in the road who says our neighbours are nice, but as we're coming up to exchange I know I'm really going to miss my present home and all that's good here. I know not everyone would go for it, but it's ours, cosy and we have such good neighbours (one lot we will keep in touch with, in fact, talking about staying in same place in a year or two together), but ...

I thought I would but once all of our stuff was out it didn't feel like our home anymore and I've never missed it!

I thought I would each time we moved from flat, to small house, to larger house, to house we are in now for the next couple of decades. Very happy in all our homes, but each time we've moved I've never looked back and settled right in. I remember the feeling you have though, the worry you are doing the right thing and should you leave your lovely comfortable home for the unknown. It hasn't been an issue for me.

Yes! Every time we have moved I have pined for the last house for a couple of weeks.

I do it with friends' houses too!

I occasionally still miss our old house, 10 years (almost to the day) since we moved. That house had pros where our current one has cons and vice versa.

I miss the utility area (couldn't really call it a room), the downstairs loo, the proximity to the high street, and the newish carpets in our old house.

But our current house is much larger and has a proper 100ft garden, rather than a paved courtyard.

I miss every house I've lived in & loved - whether own or rented. Breaks my heart to move & leave all those lovely memories & that feeling you get when you walk in the door. One house we lived in for 3.5 years, I missed it so much, I've been unable to go back to that neighbourhood for the last 2.5 years. Am jealous of the person living there now. Hmm
Love where we are now but may be moving soon, so not looking forward to yet another goodbye. Confused

LOL phalanges. I pined for my friend's old house more than I've ever pined for ours!

I always walk around the house when it's empty to say goodbye to it, but other than that, I'm over them quite quickly.

Yes, I do.

It takes me a long time to get used to living in a new place. It feels temporary, as if I'll be popping home again any day now - only I am at home.

But, while I'm always madly curious about what the new owners might have done with my old home, I genuinely no longer feel possessive about it.

I bloody hope I won't miss it - we are moving in 3 weeks!Shock

of all the places I have ever lived, I've lived here for the longest.
moved in 13 years ago when I was 3 months pg with DS1 and moving out when I'll be 7 months pg with our last so obviously loads of memories and the beginning of our family was created here so I will be sobbing my eyes out.

but I'm looking forward to having more space and soon the new phase of our lives starting in new house.

I've moved house 5 times but have only missed one house. Still miss is now! each other time I was fed up with the house, whereas the one I miss, I loved the house but we felt we had to move to gain an extra bedroom for more babies.

We're planning to move from out current house sometime this year and I'll be interested to see how I feel about it because 2 of my children were born here (in the dining roomWink) - I can imagine that might be a bit odd!

No, always moved into each new place very happy to leave the last one behind for various reasons.

I've moved 14 times, but one was a bit of a mistake [not the house but odd neighbours] and only stayed 2 years....made a profit though.

However I have often missed the gardens [and the many plants/shrubs/trees I've left behind] and would have liked to have seen them mature.

Yes, I miss our old house. It was perfect. But the area was horrid, and I love the village we moved to. I will feel better about this house when we've renovated it; I'm not enjoying living with the previous owners' choice of paint colour and carpets. We spent eighteen months doing up the last house and every inch was how we wanted it. It's hard to go back to square one.

the only thing I will hate leaving behind is the workbench my dad custom built for DH.
it's in the shed and built in.

my dad died 4 years ago, and it is the only "personal" thing we have that has something to do with him.Sad

Oh yes I do miss my lovely house horribly. Mind you, when we moved into it, I missed our old house horribly and hated the new house.

So missing the old one doesn't preclude the new one feeling just as lovely if not better :)

It's good to know I'm not the only one whose felt like this.

We viewed what we hope will be our new property again the other day, and it does feel right. We will miss our conservatory as that's lovely in the summer, and then in the winter a great dumping ground for things we clear out. However, we'll gain an extra toilet, have a lot more room and as the property was refurbished four years ago don't have spend the first year totally doing it up (other than decorating the odd room).

I moved out of my old house over a year ago. Still miss it now. Doesn't help that we've moved areas and I hate where I live now :(

We moved last summer from our gorgeous completely refurbished old house to this one which I'm in the process of doing up.
I don't really miss the old house (except during the heating/water/ kitchen renovations but now their in they are nicer than our old house and I'm still pining for a complete bathroom) but I do miss our neighbours and being so close to our friends.
However I still see our old friends & neighbours and it seems we set off a chain reaction with loads moving just after us so it's not the same anymore anyway.
Our new house even in its incomplete state feels like home & our new neighbours are lovely and I'm sure will become friends in time.

I howled like a little kid when I left my old house, and spent the first week in this one thinking it was all back-to-front. Missing the old one faded fairly quickly though, and now this is home. And it's definitely the right way round.

I don't by my DH desperately does - even four years since we moved he is still incredibly sad about leaving Sad the actual area as well as the house - I have a much more positive attitude than he does which probably doesn't help, but to be honest it does get tiring listening to someone going on and on about missing their old home.

6 months for me and I still go on about it daily miss everything about my refurbished 1890s street house, doubt ill ever get over it tbh
