Has anyone had a new bathroom fitted recently?

If so can you tell me roughly how much it cost??

Want to replace our current bathroom suite for a separate bath and shower, sink and toilet. It will need new flooring and tiling. Also want to put in a heated towel rail or two. I don't want to spend the earth but equally want to get good quality fittings. But there seems to be a huge variety in prices and it's making my head spin.

Also - has anyone used bathstore? We have one locally but I don't know if they are reasonably priced.

Have used Bathstore for 2 bathrooms in the past and are about to do so again for another 2 as we were very pleased with the quality, price and service there. The fixtures cost in total about £2.5k per bathroom, though I don't know what the fitting cost. Tiles cost about £800 though that was years ago. Just about to choose for the 2 new ones. In fact, if you have any recommendations for good places to look, please share! Bathstore doesn't have a huge choice. Good luck!

Thanks Return - do they do the fitting or do you have to find someone to do it? I've got their catalogue and was a bit underwhelmed by the tile choices but we've got a really good local tile/flooring shop so we will probably get that from there.

No other recommendations yet - have only just started looking.

I had a shower replaced in Dec ( just the base and enclosure).
My local builder bought the shower in local shop for £450. Good quality not a cheap plastic one. Total I paid him £790.
However I had checked Bathstore for the shower and the quoted me £2k!!

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 06/01/2014 10:10

We've had our own plumber to fit them, but they do have their own fitters. IIRC they were a bit more expensive though. And we had a plumber on site anyway as the new bathrooms were part of a bigger build, as they are again this time.

£2k for a shower? Was it gold-plated?! We haven't paid anything like that at Bathstore. Ours will have been more than £450 I think though, but I suppose it depends on exactly what spec it is. Our trays were/will be ceramic and I go for the thickest glass on the enclosure that I can find.

I think Bathstore have 50% off lots of stuff at the moment too, which should help. In fact, I don't think it's ever worth paying full whack in there as they always seem to have a sale on!

I'd recommend Betterbathrooms for quality v price and their service. The unit I have looks fab but the only downside is it's a moulded sink and worktop, so if you need to get to the cistern you have to undo the sink. We got taps from there too which are beautiful.

The flooring and tiles look amazing (if I don't say so myself). The tiles are really subtle so don't think they will date and you can change the look of the room easily by painting.

We've used victorianplumbing for three bathrooms. Very competitive. For a straightforward fit (keeping plumbing in same place) I'd expect around £2k for fitting.

We've just had our bathroom and downstairs cloakroom replaced, it cost just under £6K in total. I suspect we'd have got just the bathroom done for £5k. We got most of our fixtures from Victoria plumb, they seem good quality for the price. Our original quote for the work was just under £5k but we changed our mind on the bath originally quoted and went for an L-shaped one, and ended up picking more expensive tiles than in the original quote. Broken down loosely the fixtures and fitting cost under £2K, including new ceiling, the Tiles almost £1K, the rest of the cost was fitting. But that included removing the old bathroom, sorting the walls, moving the soil pipe, electrics, plumbing and tiling, and it took two weeks from start to finish.

One thing I wasn't aware off, is that porcelain tiles are apparently much harder to work with than ceramics. You need special drill bits and it took 5-10 mins for each hole, so increased the tiling from 1.5 days to 2. But that said they look really good so I;m glad we choose them.

Thank you

Lazydays - that doesn't sound as expensive as I had feared. I don't think we need to move much - toilet is likely to stay where it is. There will be some plumbing work as the sink is going to move but I don't think its major. Will have a look at victoria plumb - have not come across them before.

MrsLadybirdFace - I managed to open the links - love the tiles! Will have a look at better bathrooms as well.

I wonder whether bathstore is better value vs local stores here as we are in London so local stores are likely to be expensive as well. I realise they often have sales on and we would never buy out of a sale period.
