Would you be put off a house if...

it had only internal bathrooms? One, on the top floor, receives natural light from one of those light tubes the other - a wet room - is completely internals.

We are considering carving up rooms to get an extra much needed bedroom and bathroom, and this would be the effect.
The lack of windows wouldn't bother me one bit if the extraction was bang up to scratch, I just want to see what other people think when the time comes to sell.

Didn't put me off buying my current house

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/07/2013 23:15

I had this in one house and in the 8 years I was there it was only a problem once, when there was a power-cut whilst I was in the shower.

I would definitely consider it again, although I would expect a really powerful extractor fan.

Thank you

We have one thats internal and has a big skylight, I love it.

Justonemorebiteplease · 05/07/2013 00:52

I would be put off. Unless the extractor fan works very well the bathroom will always feel / smell damp. I would go for an external wall and window every time. Sorry if this has upset your plans.

It would put me off. I'm a morning shower person, and want daylight in my bathroom... :)

FlatCapAndAWhippet · 05/07/2013 06:13

It'd put me off too. I like light and windows. :)

BeanoNoir · 05/07/2013 06:14

Doesn't put my off. I always think of lovely hotel bathrooms that have no windows.

GuinevereOfTheRoyalCourt · 05/07/2013 08:17

It wouldn't/hasn't put me off. BUT... I'd agree that it's less than ideal - I would absolutely love to have natural light in our bathrooms.

It's just one of those compromises. I'd rather have an internal bathroom than no off-street parking or not enough bedrooms for all my dc, for example.

Fragglewump · 05/07/2013 08:19

I lived in a house with no windows in any bathroom/loo and it was fine. In fact I didn't even really notice until we'd moved in! It's not ideal but other things were more important!

EeyoreIsh · 05/07/2013 08:21

It would put me off because in fussy about such things. Sorry.

LIZS · 05/07/2013 08:22

We had this in an apartment and I wouldn't again. Extraction was good but felt claustrophobic even if spacious.

WhoNickedMyName · 05/07/2013 08:26

It would put me off sorry. Those type of bathrooms always have a certain damp-ish smell in them and I don't like it.

NorbertDentressangle · 05/07/2013 08:30

It would put me off I'm afraid.

OutingMyself · 05/07/2013 10:13

Would it mean that all the bedrooms would be quite small? I think that would put me off more than an internal bathroom, but both together would even more so.

I didn't put me off at all. It's the norm in many flats so I wasn't at all bothered when we bought our house. We currently have a family bathroom with no window and it is light and bright so I don't notice. We also have an ensuite with a skylight in the ceiling for natural light, it doesn't open so no ventilation but isn't a problem.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 05/07/2013 10:40

I've live in a house like that now. I wouldn't want to for our next house.

Turnipinatutu · 05/07/2013 13:44

Our current house has an internal wet room. It's not damp in the slightest.
We have a large heated towel rail in there, so that helps too.
I don't worry about the light. It's not as if you spread a great deal of time in there!
I'd buy another house with the same, but would have to have a good extractor.

vess · 05/07/2013 14:24

It wouldn't put me off at all - I love big windows and as much light as possoble, just don't see it as important or necessary in a bathroom.

vess · 05/07/2013 14:25

possible obviously

greenhill · 05/07/2013 14:38

I rented a flat like this, but didn't want to loll in the bath because of it. I've been out off buying houses because of the perceived lack of ventilation and the damp issue. I don't like hotel rooms that have wet rooms and no natural light either. They always smell of air freshener or toilets.

If you have great extractor fans and a light box or skylight that would help people see past it.

valiumredhead · 05/07/2013 14:42

Would put me off,I don't like any rooms without windows. Rooms without windows are cupboardsGrin

patchesmcp · 05/07/2013 17:14

Wouldn't put me off if I liked the rest of the house.

ShatnersBassoon · 05/07/2013 17:18

I think it would put me off. I like fresh air in bathrooms, and I think I'd feel a bit claustrophobic in the one with no source of natural light, as if I were in a cupboard.

Having said that, I've been in hundreds of hotel bathrooms with no window and it's never bothered me so I think I'd have to be in the room to decide.
