Anyone willing to give me their boiler quote or a ball park figure?

We are total procrastinators, terrified of being ripped off by builders so we hardly ever get anything done !

We've had a quote from a chap who is the DH of someone my DH worked with, he put a hob in for us before. We'd trust him I think... think it was nearly 3K

(4 bed house, the sort of boiler with no tank and a step up from basic as the current one doesn't have enough flow to effectively fill the bath!).

How does this sound? Getting another quote isn't easy because of out excessive caution and the difficulty of actually having anyone in during the day!

I think we paid £4k, 4 years ago for supply and fit including 2 new radiators. £3k sounds reasonable to me

redlac · 12/06/2013 14:15

Just under £3k - remove old boiler from loft as well as water tank, install new boiler in box room, replace gas pipe to bigger standard one.

We are in a 2 bed (and box room) terraced house. Boiler was a Worcester i think

grendel · 12/06/2013 14:31

We recently had a new condensing boiler (oil fired) fitted. Four bed house. Straightforward swap out of ancient boiler and in with the new in same place so no need to run new pipes, fit new radiators etc. Cost us £2K all in.

yawningbear · 12/06/2013 15:18

We have just had two quotes one for 4200 & one for 4 k but that is a change from back boiler to combi, new rads and some pipe work as well.

Pagwatch · 12/06/2013 15:23

New boiler fitted into utility room upstairs (moved from previous boiler location in the basement) was £3,000

out2lunch · 12/06/2013 15:24

I've had quotes for between 2-3k.

poocatcherchampion · 12/06/2013 15:32

we had one for 2.5k

LastButOneSplash · 12/06/2013 15:33

Just under 3k for boiler and some faffing. Smaller house than you though.

ParkerTheThief · 12/06/2013 15:39

2.5K for an oil fired boiler

quotes from 3.5-4.5 for a Valliant boiler in 4 bed house

Mrsladybirdface · 12/06/2013 17:38

we paid 2.5k for a valiant combi. included removing all the old water tank and boiler and placing pipes in loft was a big job

thehairybabysmum · 12/06/2013 17:42

We just paid £1600 for the boiler and controls, plus one radiator....this was trade price. Then £250 for it to be fitted...straightforward swap all done in one day.

Also a 4 bed so biggish boiler and it was a Worcester.

thehairybabysmum · 12/06/2013 17:44

Google the price of the boiler that your plumber is quoting you for and compare his price to that (a good quote should break down the costs)....will soon give you an idea if you are being ripped off or not?

Theas18 · 12/06/2013 21:38

thanks all :) thats really helpful. Doesn't sound out of the way, and he has popped round at odd times and fixed bits so we wouldn't be waiting days like with british gas if there was a problem.

flow4 · 12/06/2013 21:42

£1.4k for a new condensing boiler and room thermostat, but no rads or pipework.

nocake · 12/06/2013 21:44

For a new boiler including flushing the system but with no new radiators - £1.8k

Make sure it's a good make of boiler.

Redbindy · 12/06/2013 21:52

If you're in doubt get a quote from British Gas and another independent, just for comparison.

ouryve · 12/06/2013 21:57

2 bedroom terrace.

Remove old back boiler and gas fire. Remove fireplace and make good the wall. Route gas supply to kitchen. Fit new boiler in kitchen - adding necessary pipework and boxing in. Fit magnaClean, fit thermostatic valves to radiators and thermostatic heating controller. Replace bathroom radiator.

Just over £2K.

MrsTaraPlumbing · 13/06/2013 18:34

Really, really get in at least 3 Gas safe registered heating engineers to give you quotes in writing. That is the nly way to get good advice that applies to your situation. Being ultra careful - then get more quotes - get 5.
It will depend on what is already in your house.
It will depend on the incoming water pressure - no combi fills a bath really quick but good incoming mains pressure and the right combi can give you a better flow rate than cheaper combis.
The Worcester Bosh website explains all you need to know about boilers quite well, even if you don't have a Worcester Bosch in the end - it just explains the difference well.
As for your question on price. Straightforward boiler swap any thing from £1,800 to £3,000 might be reasonable - without seeing it.

And this is the business I work in.

MrsTaraPlumbing · 13/06/2013 18:36

Also, lots of heating engineers do qotes in evenings and at weekends.

lalalonglegs · 13/06/2013 18:50

Specify the make of boiler you will be getting: I'd always go for Worc Bosch as I have had lots of them fitted and they have almost always been problem-free - the one time I did have an issue, the customer service was excellent. Others recommend Vaillant (sp?) - don't go for a cheaper brand, you will get very little service out of it.

valiumredhead · 13/06/2013 18:54

2.5k but that was for cash so had a lot knocked off original price.

valiumredhead · 13/06/2013 18:56

That was for vaillant,sp?

maillotjaune · 13/06/2013 22:59

Cost us £5k in 2009 to replace old boiler with Worcester combi and all radiators in 3 bed semi. Your quote sounds reasonable to me.
