Ikea's assembly service

Hi,

Am thinking of ordering a couple of wardrobes from ikea online and there is a mention of an assembly service. However as you proceed to checkout it is no longer there so have been wondering if they provide it on online orders at all. Anyone with similar experiences please advise. P.s putting up furniture ourselves is not an option, DH end I end up not speaking for ages afterwards! Thanks

I rang IKEA and they gave me a contractor name/number. A man turned up with a toolbox, assembled a bed and a wardrobe in a couple of hours. I was very impressed...and jealous.

IKEA delivered some furniture & I had paid to have it assembled. They misassembled one item (I was subsequently sent another and someone came to assemble it and, unasked, he fixed the first one, so I had two for the price of one). The original shower said they would not move a chest of drawers into place because it was too heavy. I asked them to stand out of the way and did it myself (am small), much to their consternation. I reported them to the company but have no idea whether or not there was any comeback. It was Friday afternoon... I would not ask for assembly again - I would find someone on Gumtree or the like.

I was wondering exactly why people don't use IKEA for assembly...I get 5-10 enquiries a day for Mr Handy (my wonderful boss) for IKEA assembly and it's never a quick job even for a skilled handyman...the main problem we have found is the structural integrity and as they are trying to make them faster to assemble, they are getting wobblier!! So advise to always fit to a wall where possible or hire someone to do it..in London I assume there's so many orders, there teams must be flat-packed out! : )
Just my opinion as a mum and a P.A!!
