Ikea's assembly service

Hi,

Am thinking of ordering a couple of wardrobes from ikea online and there is a mention of an assembly service. However as you proceed to checkout it is no longer there so have been wondering if they provide it on online orders at all. Anyone with similar experiences please advise. P.s putting up furniture ourselves is not an option, DH end I end up not speaking for ages afterwards! Thanks

Find someone from Gumtree who can assemble it for a fraction of the price that ikea will charge!

Am worried about getting just anyone in off the street so to speak. I hear Ikea assemblers provide a warranty etc. Am not sure if it is actually worth anything but apparently if there is any damage caused it would be covered. A man with a van on the other hand might be a lot more difficult to track down should things go wrong. It is a shame these wardrobes need to be assembled by two people at least, I don't mind DIY as long as DH is in another room

Count me in, 'specially if there's cake. I'm a whizz at IKEA flatpacks. Can do 'em even without the pictures.
Dh and I usually run a sweepstake as to how long it'll be before one of us decides there's a bit missing.

We bought loads of Ikea chests of drawers and other bits when we lost all our furniture in a fire and need storage quickly. The guy who we got from Ikea was unbelievably quick - IIRC he did the 6 chests, a dressing table and a desk in 2 hours. Money very well spent IMO

The assembly service is a separate contractor (as is the delivery people actually but they do let you book that on line). Normally assembly service can be ordered at the pick up point when you buy in store. The one my local Ikea dish out is an outfit called EDL Assembly services - however if you google - assemble my flat pack or some sort of other combo of these words - you will get an array of people who make it their lifes work to turn up at yr house with an electric screwdriver. Im a huge believer in hiring in - I didnt do lego as a child and I dont do DIY as an adult

Thanks for you replies, dear DIY lovers and those who aren't too keen as myself. Will be pestering my local ikea for a DIY genius or two, hopefully they won't start arguing in the middle of unpacking my gorgeous new wardrobes.

I had a fantastic little man who did Ikea and Harvey's. He was like a mini Freddy Mercury who worked at the speed of light for about £45 for each huge wardrobe we bought. He covers the Bedford, Northampton and Milton Keynes areas.

He didn't fix them to the wall. I have a contact number for him, his name is Robert Burgess and the number I have is 01604 702534 and mobile 07759 913287. I presume he still has the same number. He was recommended by Harveys Furniture Store in Milton Keynes.

why does this show up on google, when it's so old?
I personally would not book from some amigos..

It shows because Mumsnet has a really good domain authority (ie google thinks it's great), and probably there's not much else on the internet for exactly what you're searching for. Google will often prioritise relevance over recency. Can you tell what I do for a living Grin

I don't have any other suggestions, but did you have a bad experience with the amigos service or do you just not like the sound of them? If this thread is showing up for people researching it might be useful for others to know if they should steer clear.

Because BartFantastic found the thread on google and would like to know if anyone has other suggestions for ikea assembly. I don't think it's a bad thing reviving a thread if you want to know the same thing? (saves people repeating suggestions).

are you really that fantastic? I bet this www.fantasticfurnitureassembly.co.uk shoudl be exactly your cup of tea. One of their furniture assemblers lives next door and I've been using him ever since I found out. All wardrobes are still in one piece and you could even get a slight discount, depending on how big of a order you have. don't ask google next time, use mumsnet :)

I don't mind Ikea stuff but I do admit that I paid the bed company to make DS's gigantic high sleeper bed. It took two men two hours and they do it every day (worked for the bed company) so I can only imagine how long it would have taken me. Shock

I used a company last year called Unflatpack. Charged around £120 to assemble table & chairs, two wardrobes, two chests of drawers and a bookcase. There were here nearly 6 hours - definitely worth every penny! (Ps am a long term poster who recently NCd i.e. I'm not advertising)

Can't remember the name of the company we used but they picked our stuff up from Ikea, delivered and assembled it. It was definitely worth it - they were fab.
