What colour for hallway - Farrow and Ball Grubby Socks or Laura Ashley Granny's Old Petticoat?

I am testing whether this gets more response than my thread yesterday about colour schemes and lighting

and also wondering about the names of colours. Do they influence buyers? Does F&B French Grey sound better than Dulux Chic Shadow?

Laura Ashley Granny's Old Petticoat everytime Grin just sounds so much more vintage and yet aspirational at the same time....
Is it like charging more for "artisan" bread?

MmeLindor · 02/03/2013 19:34

yes, I think it is. Homemade bread sounds so pedestrian in comparison.

Heh heh heh [unhelpful but amused]

DameF
I am desperate. I will try anything to get someone to help me decide on a colour

I think the lake colours are beautiful - so restful. I wouldn't have one different wall in each room - I would maybe just do that in the living room. And then you could use any of the other colours in the other rooms as they all go together so well.

MmeLindor · 02/03/2013 20:27

Hmm, yes. I am so undecided. I might get some paint pots and try some colours out before we get the work done

I'm looking for similar advice on my thread - if you'd like to have a look

MmeLindor · 02/03/2013 21:02

oh, I like that you have uploaded a pic. That is handy

I feel a strange sense of pride that I, in some small way, helped with your thread title Grin

PigletJohn · 03/03/2013 10:04

Paint it beige vinyl silk and tell people it was a special order made up in a Montmartre atelier.

MmeLindor · 03/03/2013 10:48

You did, Jayne. You were my muse.

PJ
that is an excellent idea. Thank you

I have just painted my hall Dulux Welsh Slate and am really pleased with it

OutsideOverThere · 03/03/2013 10:57

F&B names do generally sound more interesting and less plastic iykwim.

Dead Mouse and Old Rope are my favourites.

OutsideOverThere · 03/03/2013 10:57

LOL at Johnno Grin

MmeLindor · 03/03/2013 11:42

Dead Mouse? How bizzare. On another thread, someone just mentioned they painted their walls F&B Clunch. I thought she was having a laugh, but no. There is such a colour.

I am waiting for F&B Fanjo.

OP posts:
OutsideOverThere · 03/03/2013 12:05

Clunch is real. Sorry, I was actually having a laugh Grin

But my first comment I meant. They sound nicer. I'm not sure if the supposed difference in quality/depth of colour etc is really anything more than emperors new clothes though.

MmeLindor · 03/03/2013 12:09

Outside
It didn't even surprise me :)

No idea if the colours are better or worse to use. Maybe someone who has used them will come along and tell us.

A painter who came to quote did say that he never uses Dulux paints. I am using their colour scheme to find the paints I want though, but don't know if I will use them. Will take advice from the painter on that one.

OutsideOverThere · 03/03/2013 12:17

I have to say I've used a few F&B but only on small areas, eg inside a cabinet, that sort of thing - they were Ok. No better or worse than dulux imo.

However I have two exes who are painters. One of them didn't really give two hoots about F&B - he just used it when told to. Said it was nice enough paint. The other one has it all over his house, says it has 'layers' of colour, like real wood as opposed to plastic, or something like that.

I have a feeling he may be talking bolleaux Grin

so whatever painter you get they'll have their own opinion.

MmeLindor · 03/03/2013 12:19

yes, that is true. The place where we are ordering our kitchen have a fantastic F&B colour - must nip up and find out which it is. It is grey/brown and looks amazing.

DameFanny · 03/03/2013 12:25

My bathroom is Clunch.

If you're still interested I like the lakey scheme.

MmeLindor · 03/03/2013 12:29

Absolutely still interested in opinions. I think I will go for the lake scheme. Think they are more restful colours.

Oops - just posted on other thread saying personally I preferred the Benjamin Moore ones Blush

However have just had lighting scheme done for new house so might be able to answer questions if you have them. It did look v complicated though & I am not so answers might not be something an electrician would recognise .
