House is being completely overhauled. We need to pin down some details in the coming weeks.

1. Colours - it is not a huge house so we want the same colour scheme through out the house. I like lake colours and colour scheme 2 - which one do you like best? I think the first one is warmer perhaps?

We have settled on the tiles for hall, kitchen and bathrooms grey tiles bottom right but in 60x60, and wall tiles above for around bath/shower and behind sink. Rest of bathroom white.

Kitchen is white with granite worktops, contemporary style.

Living room white walls with solid oak flooring, still have this sofa but it will be replaced in a year or two.

Help me work out what colour and where to put it. Do I choose one wall in living room / dining room and make that the blue/green wall? And do I repeat that throughout the house?

Oh, and if anyone knows about lighting schemes, we could chat about that too

The lake colours are nice. Reminds me of the gorgeous house in What Lies Beneath. But then I tend to favour warm colours. Plus I haven't redecorated anything in 10 years so am probably very out of touch.

Just googled the film and discovered it is spooky, so won't bother but I did find some still shots. Yes, see what you mean.

Michelle would SO shop in Ikea. I bet she does, and puts the flat pack furniture together herself.

There is no sofa large enough for me to hide behind. I had to leave Jurassic Park cause it was so scary. There were children in the cinema laughing at me.

Farrow and Ball colour - Grubby Socks. Too dark for a hallway?

Not so keen on the dark kitchen tiles but love colour scheme 2. I really like that Benjamin Moore colour.

The dark tiles are for the bathroom, and only the wet areas. Yes, I love the Benjamin Moore colour too, but was a bit concerned it might be too cool.

O sorry, I misread. It was late! Still not so keen on that colour but I tend to go for lighter, airy colours. I also really like bluey greens.

However I do think F and B Grubby Socks is perfect for a hallway when teamed with Laura Ashley curtains from their Grannies old Petticoat range

I like colour scheme 1 best which kind of surprises me as I'm an off-white/neutrals person generally. The white in the second one looks cold against the colour of the sofa I think.

I'm not courageous with wall colour/don't have any feature walls so am probably not the best person to advise tbh - I'd probably go for the neutral colour as the biggest expanse then add the stronger colours in as cushion covers/lampshades/pictures in differing proportions depending on the room - perhaps even painting a series of[different-sized] canvases in all the different colours of the pallette & grouping them as a piece of wall art in the hall to further link the rooms together. If I had a big kitchen - diner, then I probably would use more than one wall colour to "zone" it.

Kitchen isn't huge, but was thinking of one wall in a strong colour. I was advised recently to be bold with colour cause you can always paint again if you don't like it.

Going to go with a deep brown/grey for one wall of the bedroom. Saw that recently and it looked fab. It was a F&B colour, but I can't find it on the website.

I was sucked in by Granny's petticoat!! I like the lake colours, especially the greens, but in a strong way for the whole room, outlined in white like the film stills. DH and I swoon when we see strong greens and warm greys outlined in white on TV! I would definitely go stronger with your colours, use lighter and darker shades (by mixing different quantities of white with your chosen colour, or go the Dulux chart route) to create texture, shadow and depth in the rooms and to pull or push walls. As you said, you can always paint again! (I'm not a fan of feature walls, more feature rooms!)

I like the lake colours. The Benjamin Moore greiges look like water the DCs have rinsed their paintbrushes in after a session of 'art'.

However, I like 'Sea Star'. Maybe nice for the kitchen? Could look good with any colour cabinetry or appliances. Would be nice with the tiles you have in mind.

I would go for colour scheme 2 myself, but that's me and I have gone for something similar - though stronger greys and pops of dark yellow and navy blue. For me, the things I've had to redo are the ones where I went with the more conservative choice and held back a bit. As for lighting, I've put halogen downlighters in the kitchen and bathroom and am working with the single pendants in each room - the plan is to add lamps to brighten things up.

I like Half Term in Skegness over It's Not All Beige If I Add A Murky Blue. I'm not a fan of feature walls and I think you could easily get away with painting a whole room any of those colours, but if you're nervous paint one wall and see if you want to paint any more walls?

Bit hesitant to paint the whole room cause we had a friend who painted all blue and it was like sitting in a swimming pool. Not helped by the white furniture, to be fair.

Hmm, I have been thinking of using the Sea Star -ish colour on one wall and using light grey on the other walls rather than boring white. Will have a look at alternative greys though, as I am not that 100% sure of the greige, Maths.

I love the lake colours. Loving the What Lies Beneath house too.

We moved nearly two years ago and did whole house. I don't love any of it. Was way too reticent on colour. Have decided I love blues and nice vivid greens. What colours do I not have? Blues and nice vivid greens! And I have a Laura Ashley bedroom. I do love the wallpaper but went for matching curtains which are too insipid. Can't change them unless I change husband as they are second set of curtains in 18 months!

So my advice is to be brave! I now want to re do living room, hall, stairs and landing and main bedroom. And still have too magnolia bedrooms that need tackling.
