Starting a new thread, since our old one was almost full!

Anyone suffering the stresses of trying to sell a house is welcome to join us; anyone here to tell us our houses are crap and/or overpriced is not. Wink

Two cash buyers looking tomorrow

alwayslateforwork · 22/03/2013 13:02

Woo gardener, that sounds promising!

We've had a snowstorm here, dh has been stuck in Halifax all week (although apparently is now sitting on a plane in Toronto heading home), I've got the children's cold and the EA says she can't find anything for us to view tonight (which is when she said she'd arrange the next set of viewings).

I'm a 'wrong layout' kinda gal, but not in the traditional sense. I quite like quirky. Boxes make me nervy, and we are actually looking for something with bedrooms separated by two floors... Grin

FergusSingsTheBlues · 22/03/2013 13:35

Husband has pointed out that the rugby plus cold weather has probably put a dampner on viewings....ea says they cant explain why movement is so slow, but they say uts unusually bas right now even given economy. Anybody else heard this?

We are going to do an open house at the end of april as weather in west scotland us usually pretty good.

But have to say im agog that youre all getting so many more viewings than we are....maybe online wasnt the way to go after all...will be keeping keen eye on neighbours movements tonorrow!

Good luck everybody whose waiting fir news, movement etc!

hinkyhonk · 22/03/2013 13:49

Our agent has taken frankly piss poor photos of the house yesterday and used outside photos from when we bought the house 5 years ago Hmm

Really hacked me off after discovering that the (amazing) house we want has been taken off the market again. It's sold 4 times already in the last year but fallen through each time. Is it really bad that I'm hoping it will fall through again?

If it doesn't then I'm not sure there us anything else we want to move to - so why are we doing all this?

I'm totally confused.

Any word cuddy ?

wonkylegs · 22/03/2013 14:53

Decorator has finally finished today. Contacted three agents to come and value/quote next week. Now in panic mode as where to hide 10yrs of accumulated stuff crap
Doing major chuck/recycle clearout but there is still an awful lot please tell me I'll get it all done?

CuddyMum · 22/03/2013 15:32

Well, Mrs Vendor called the agent back and said they'd changed their mind and it wasn't the right time. I said that they were "arseholes" and I bloody well meant it. I've just been hassling the other local agents (makes a change) to get them to dig me up a house pronto!

Also, I have just found out that the surveyor has entered the property without my permission (got the key off the agent). I am absolutely livid!!!! The poor dog will have been very confused and not only that, I haven't cleaned up because I was ill yesterday. My teenage daughters' underwear and PJs were strewn al over the floor.

So, not having a very good day quite frankly! Sorry for the rant.

There's another possible rental coming up in Sharnbrook, so I'll await to hear. The other agents are currently trying to find me a house to buy too.

I know, at least the survey has been done. It's a shame the surveyor may think we're the bloody Clampetts though!

How's your search going Toomuchtea?

Yup, viewings tonight cancelled. Two out of town, one sold, and one appears to have been taken off the market.

I've just been out and bought a steam cleaner for the kitchen floors though. Might as well use the weekend to get everything shiny before the open house on Tuesday! Am also spending the weekend cleaning carpets... And have to whip to the paint store to get a couple of tins of our paint for touch ups. (And dh has to finish emptying the garage. That all sounds terribly stereotypical, in truth he's likely to be the one cleaning the carpets...)

School hols start today for two weeks, so am hoping that holiday makers will be viewing (live in total tourist trap and it's reasonably common for out of towners to buy a weekend property).

That's ours - any ideas what we can do to get it to move? Am v jealous of everyone else's massive kitchens...

Am lolling at the clampetts - after dd1 (13) had gone to school yesterday I went to check her room and found a pile of snotty tissues and a pair of discarded socks lovingly placed within arm's reach of the bed. Nice. Guaranteed to be a selling point...

Wonky - we have three houses worth of stuff in our place. (Literally, except we've given away two double beds, a set of twin beds, and the second entire dining table and chairs...) - hence the storage locker. I have over 120 plates. Feck knows who I think might pop round for dinner - the moonies?

alwayslateforwork · 23/03/2013 02:04

Hm, that didn't work. The second one.

Always your house is lovely. Nice to see we have the same weather right now as in your pics! Are you originally from the UK?

CuddyMum · 23/03/2013 08:08

Hinkyhonk - yours is too - just choking at the price! I've just sold a 6 bed detached for £200k less :)

hinkyhonk · 23/03/2013 08:43

I know its totally ridiculous but the agent reckons it will sell at that Hmm

There is a 3 bed on our street on the market with 'interesting' decoration for 50k more!

CuddyMum · 23/03/2013 08:47

Lucky you - crazy prices :) are you staying locally?

sailorsgal · 23/03/2013 08:48

hinkyhonk your house is lovely but OMG the price. Shock I guess thats what you have to pay if you live in London.

CuddyMum · 23/03/2013 08:51

How are you getting on Sailorsgal?

hinkyhonk · 23/03/2013 08:55

We're zone 2 london so 30 min commute to work and great schools nearby - apparently that is why the prices are bonkers.

Planning to move out to the middle of nowhere with no neighbours - I'm done with people!

sailorsgal how is it going for you?

CuddyMum · 23/03/2013 08:59

Middle of nowhere with a shop, pub and takeaway would suit me :)

sailorsgal · 23/03/2013 09:13

We have had one viewing this week from someone who needs to sell theirs and we have a viewing this afternoon. They have very young children so the 3 storey layout might put them off. I have said to the EA that we have lived here since ds was small and have never found the stairs a problem so hopefully she will sell it to them. We have two lovely parks close by, Waitrose on the next St, and good schools so location may swing it.

I keep looking on rightmove through partially shut eyes to check the house we want hasn't sold yet. Grin

CuddyMum · 23/03/2013 09:19

We're in three storey now and we were in the previous house when the kids were small - it's not a problem. We made sure our "night terror" child was directly above us! We always heard her. Good luck with your viewing :)

alwayslateforwork · 23/03/2013 14:08

Aw, hinky, I lived in a house identical to yours in Wimbledon. It's lovely.

Yup re the weather, but tbh we need lots of snow - we have three ski resorts to keep full all winter! Summer is the main tourist season when the national park looks beautiful, but no snow means the glaciers are receding etc etc...

We've only been here a couple of years, but the dcs love it. It's making me v nostalgic looking at your houses - they are so very different here.

whosiwhatsit · 23/03/2013 17:41

Can I join to, please? We're about to put our house on the market as we're moving for my job. It's a two bed detached cottage in the Scottish Highlands countryside and we bought it a couple of years ago for £115,000 which was supposedly 5k below its valuation. I'm hoping we'll get £110,000 now. We'll be renting in our new location until the house sells and are fortunate because my work will pay our rent for the first six months. But after that, if the house doesn't sell and my DH doesn't find work, we'll be pretty much stuffed :-/.

CuddyMum · 23/03/2013 18:50

That's scary whosiwhatsit. Are you relocating far? At least you are chain free.
