Be honest, for a single woman on her own, no dependents.

Yeah it looks fine, what's your concerns about it? Not too big to maintain or live in on your own, cheap, looks low maintenance, ideal I would have thought!

QOD · 04/04/2012 09:33

On your own is good, it means you could buy it, meet someone, have kids and not have to move

AKissIsNotAContract · 04/04/2012 09:36

It looks nice, it's already under offer though (unless that offer was you)

mosschops30 · 04/04/2012 09:37

'fine' and 'nice' Hmm

errr, ok, well if you're asking for opinions on the look of the place then it's a bit beige Blush but if you're asking on suitability for a single woman then it's great, fabulous, amazeballs Grin

Fizzylemonade · 04/04/2012 09:49

It is decent condition so wouldn't require any walls knocking down etc. Assume you mean is it manageable for someone by themselves, answer is yes.

The only thing you may not have thought of and it didn't occur to me until we had bought a house with this was that the stairs are open to the lounge. So all the heat goes upstairs and leaves your downstairs cold and the upstairs hot.

clam · 04/04/2012 09:50

Bit dull, I would say - not much character. But I guess it depends where you're coming from, as in are you downsizing?

ditavonteesed · 04/04/2012 09:51

Is it your house, my house isnt much bigger than that and there are 4 of us, garden looks a lovely size, needs a splash of colour but thats what people do when they buy a house. I like it. :)

QED · 04/04/2012 09:53

Why are you asking (am presuming isn't for you ?)

Justfeckingdoit · 04/04/2012 09:56

Wow that's cheap and lovely. Would be about 4 times as much where I live.

chelen · 04/04/2012 10:04

I think if I was single no dependents (and none likely in near future?) I would rather have a smaller house with a bit more style, or a swanky flat or something.

I would buy that type of house, because it would fit in my family very happily.

Gapants · 04/04/2012 10:07

It is a big 2.4 children boring.

I would go for a loft style flat or some such if I were single and no dependants. I would like to have a place that gave the look of more extravagant living. Not a quiet cul de sac.

What is your criteria?

wishiwasonholiday · 04/04/2012 10:07

The open plan stairs would put me off, I really notice the difference when I close the door at the bottom of our stairs. Looks ok otherwise just a bit plain.

annalouiseh · 04/04/2012 10:08

lots of potential, put your stamp on it and would be nice

mosschops30 · 04/04/2012 10:10

Its for my mum. It will be our house financially but she will live there forever.
I really like it, there is nothing for her to do, its neutrally deorated, garden is pretty and manageable. Plus it has enough space for us all to visit Smile.

just wanted some good honest MN opinion

noddyholder · 04/04/2012 10:10

It would need gutting to put any style into it!

Gapants · 04/04/2012 10:13

Oh, if it is for an older lady Grin then I think it would be good. And a house like that will re-sell to a family at a later date.

happystory · 04/04/2012 10:16

My mum would love it! Agree open stairs can be a problem with a family (you cannot have a row!) but it looks low maintenance

mosschops30 · 04/04/2012 10:17

noddy this is where she is currently renting, now this really does need gutting!

At 66 im not sure shes that bothered about beng uber stylish, i think she just wants to feel safe and comfortable

OP posts:
MrsJohnDeere · 04/04/2012 10:17

Needs gutting but doable. The thing that would out me off would be the stairs in the sitting room. We have this and it means that all noise carries upstairs. Tv is noisier upstairs than down (PITA if you have night owl guests who want to watch tv)?

No downstairs loo means all visitors have to traipse up and down the stairs too.

mosschops30 · 04/04/2012 10:19

Oh and the pictures dont do the anaglypta (sp?) wallpaper justice, its throughout, with the hallway being painted orange with a royal blue carpet Grin

SoupDragon · 04/04/2012 10:19

Not to my taste at all but absolutely fine for the scenario you describe. Might the stairs cause problems in later life?

At the moment it looks bland and soulless but that is easily solved.

GooseyLoosey · 04/04/2012 10:20

Garden is actually quite big. My parents (coming up to 70) have just got rid of a house with a similar sized garden as they could no longer be bothered with the effort it required. Bit of garden = great, large amount of lawn = not so great.

I grew up in a house with a staircase like that and there was always a draught. Might not be great for someone older.

Have you talked to your mother about what she would like out of a house?

I have always thought that if I was living on my own, I would like a large open plan living space as I don't like walking from empty room to empty room.

mosschops30 · 04/04/2012 10:20

I cant believe people think it needs gutting Shock it has a brand new kitchen and bathroom, neutral carpets and walls, she lives there on her own so doesnt matter about tv noise or one toilet.
(we have one toilet with 5 of us in our house Blush)

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 04/04/2012 10:22

It doesn't need gutting at all, it just needs life - which comes when you put your own stuff in.
