Feeling intimidated by styled house

Just browsing rightmove & came across this one which just makes me feel inadequate. A shot devoted to the sink? I know if we moved there it would look nothing like that in a week. (no vested interest)

Oh god. That is one of the most hideous examples of 'I have no idea of what my style is so I will just buy everything in Ikea / DFS in one go' I have ever seen. Soulless, clinical, boring and everything I hate.

I think the lady of the house has Radley handbags. And the man of the house gets waxed. Vile.

IMHO.

Yes smalltown - the cost of storage is excellent for focusing the mind on decluttering! I'm a terrible hoarder and I got rid of 10s of sacks of stuff. I wish I'd actually chucked out more toys - DS didn't seem to notice that a lot of stuff was missing!

I am currently packing up (well) in advice of wanting to move. I am packing it all properly in boxes before putting it in the loft or garage. Then the removal men can deal with it!

The sink is a bit OTT but apart from that, it's fine. Don't like lots of junk sitting around suggests untidy to me rather than personality.

kbaby · 08/02/2012 22:48

I actually think its ok. Certainly not hideous. It is bland though and could do without so many magnolia walls. It does have a new house look about it and needs character but I would happily move there.
Why would every house need to have books on display. I enjoy reading but hate clutter so all mine are In a built in cupboard , whose to say they haven't done the same.

Befuzzled, the lack of books thing - it's not necessarily assuming lack of intelligence or assuming that people don't read.

Kindles are fine for holidays or a spot of late night reading with the integral booklight when you don't want to disturb your partner, I have one myself. But I own thousands of books, many of which aren't even available on Kindle. And frankly, the experience of reading on a Kindle just isn't as full as reading a paper book. It's like having sex with a condom - it gets you there and it has benefits, but it's not the real thing.

I feel that houses without books are sterile, culturally and intellectually.

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/02/2012 23:12

Heh heh heh.

ReneeVivien · 08/02/2012 23:19

I love my kindle. But a house isn't a home without books.

BettyBathroom · 09/02/2012 22:08

I knew a guy who used to buy second hand books and display them in his home - "displayed" and "second hand" because he wanted to impress woman by making them think he had read them. He was a total wanker! Grin

bibbitybobbityhat · 09/02/2012 22:21

Aye, I know some utter wankers with a house full of books. Just goes to show!

ThePathanKhansWitch · 09/02/2012 22:30

Souless. Where's their stuff?
