Super small bath tub...

greentown · 11/11/2011 08:40

We have a shower room (shower cubicle fitted) which we would like to convert to a bathroom (shower over bath). It's not quite big enough for a standard bath so we're looking at baths shorter than 1200mm and narrower than 750mm. Has anyine ever fitted/used a tub this size? What's it like? Would you prefer it to just a shower?
We've seen these on the web:
www.omnitub.co.uk/index.html
The smaller Solo is probably about the right size - but I've never seen one in the flesh.
I've heard of small Japanese tubs but can't find a stockist - help!

I wouldn't.....who would use it??

Anyone over the age of seven would have to be unceremoniously hauled out by the fire brigade!

I'd go for a much swankier shower cubicle instead.

Auntiestablishment · 11/11/2011 08:48

Have also seen things like this.

Not had one that small, my old bath was about 150cm which felt rather small (new one is 160 and much better). I would prefer it to just a shower, simply because it increases possibilities, though. I think you'd have to use it slightly differently from a normal bath, more like a mini hot tub.

found this one and it doesn't look bad. It has a seat in so here's an overhead piccy

but......would have to say a super douper shower would like far better

My parents converted a shower room into bathroom in the house I grew up in. The bath was about 140 cm long, it hated it, too short to be comfortable, I am 169 cm and the shortest of my siblings. I used to really p* my parents off by going to use "their" shower instead.

Cheers all - I've been back measuring up everyone's suggestions and it looks like I've been a bit optimistic with the dimensions.
Really, the Omni tub is probably the nearest in size so far.
Realistically it's got to be as close to a 1000mm long as possible and as close to 700mm wide - oh dear!
Very interested in knowing your feelings on these tubs. We'd still have a shower fitted over it but felt that the opportunity to have a soak would be a plus.

But really, if it is only 1m long, then it would never be a very relaxing soak.

JaneBirkin · 11/11/2011 09:15

There are a lot of 'hip baths' and 'sit baths' and short baths on ebay. They tend to be a bit deeper than usual with a seat.

I have looked recently - as we were refitting the bathroom here. It's worth looking on ebay and then taking a note of the manufacturer of anything you see, then googling that to see if they are available new.

There are certainly plenty to choose from afaik.

greentown · 11/11/2011 09:19

True - But would it better than no soak? We're weighing it it all up at the moment. And there is an element of 'when we come to sell...' that will influence our decision. If you have no other bathroom - would you rather have only a shower or a very wee soaking tub with a shower over - which is better? Over to Harry Hill... Smile

et puis

et le 'poncey' option pour vous

Smile

There are other shorter ones too. I have SEEN them so I know

JaneBirkin · 11/11/2011 09:22

Je prefere le petit soaking bain, pour moi c'est le mieux

Les showers sont trop impersonelle, trop vite, trop moderne...on doit assayer pour avoir un bain officiel

otherwise there's no room for contemplation. Or small fish to nibble your feet.

Mammonite · 11/11/2011 13:03

Are you quite sure you can't lay the room out differently with spacesaving WC/sink/bath and squeeze a longer bath in? You could get a compact loo and basin side by side in 1.1m.

ogredownstairs · 11/11/2011 13:39

This is prob not v helpful but we have a tiny bath with shower over in a very small loft bathroom. I chose it deliberately because the bigger bath in the main bathroom takes ages to fill, wastes hot water etc - a small bath can be great for dcs and for having a deeper soak, even if you are sitting up! Having said that it is a Kaldewei steel 1400mm, so bigger than the ones you're looking at. If it's the only bathroom I would def try and look at the layout to see if you can get at least a 1200 bath in somehow - I wouldn't buy a house without one, esp with dcs.

leeloo1 · 11/11/2011 14:42

Our bath is 1400 long and its great for DC, doesn't take long to fill etc - and no need to get those fancy things that divide the bath in half so you don't waste water when bathing a baby! But oldest is 3 and when he lies down he pretty much fills it!

DH and I usually shower, but it is useful to have an option to bath when the shower is broken. I'm 5'6 and can just about manage to bath, but DH is over 6' and does look quite comedic trying to cram into it though, so a 1000 bath would be relatively useless for an adult (IMHO) but worth having for DC.

merryberry · 11/11/2011 14:48

I think the omni tb is a great idea. will look into for our bathroon redo. I love to soak but much prefer to do it sitting up than lying down, love love love japanese style baths, but have been finding them a bit too pricy. this is a bit better

cestlavielife · 11/11/2011 15:56

www.bathroomheaven.com/small-baths/

has a few small maps

cestlavielife · 11/11/2011 15:56

baths even

merryberry · 11/11/2011 16:35

:)

minipie · 11/11/2011 17:55

Would this be the only bath in the house? If not then I wouldn't bother personally. You can always go to the other bathroom if you want a soak.

If however you don't have another bath then it's definitely worth it if you want to appeal to families with small children. But in that case the japanese ones could be a bit deep because you can't really lean over them to bathe a child.

Sorry, not really helpful, just my train of thought!

greentown · 11/11/2011 19:31

Thanks all - it would be the only bath in the house, so it seems opinions are mixed on the value of small tubs.
I think we'll have to do what we were trying to avoid and move the boiler to fit in a more standard size bath - big bills! :(

Jack am sure they have a bath by now, it's six years later.

Jackgao · 31/08/2017 19:12

yes, you're right, just notice the time...

Helcat · 12/04/2018 15:09

But then again, there’s always people googling (like me) several years later for the same thing! Need a mini bath for my static caravan! Grin
