Need some ideas to decorate our living room, its a long thin room (18 ft by 10ft) and has alot of light (2 windows and patio door). What colours are in at the moment? Tempted to wall paper on wall with busy wall paper and paint the rest.

What colours are your living rooms?

White.

Je suis une boring bastard.

I don't like wallpaper much.

Someone else far more interesting and helpful will be along in a minute.

purpleturtle · 02/09/2010 17:38

Classic cream.

Rest of post as per GetOrf's.

merlin · 02/09/2010 17:39

Sorry - magnolia here - boring!!!!!!

BUT, I have lots of brightly coloured cushions/throws/pictures etc which I can change around.

merlin · 02/09/2010 17:40

I also meant to say that I think that one feature wall thing looks a bit dated/obvious now - IMO.

I like a neutral colour and then add the zingy bits with your accessories!

Alouiseg · 02/09/2010 17:42

Almond White, everywhere. I think the whole feature wallpaper is a bit over too.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 02/09/2010 17:45

Beige

Dull as dishwater, meGrin

TheUnmentioned · 02/09/2010 17:47

I have a feature wall Blush

Anyways it is a teal colour with gold frames etc on it and occasional fuschia accent then other walls are magnolia (not called that but pretty much is) with gold, fushia and teal frames / candle sticks etc.

Getting new sofas one day which'll be maybe dark grey with the 3 colours as cushions.

Hulababy · 02/09/2010 17:48

Currently builder's magnolia. Soon to be white. Our walls are all painted, no wall paper. Will use pictures, etc for the colour.

ethelina · 02/09/2010 17:49

Light teal walls, chimney breast dark teal. White woodwork and white above picture rail. Biscuity coloured carpet. Cream curtains. 2 windows, 1 west and 1 north facing.

Marne · 02/09/2010 17:49

lol, it seems like magnolia is popular, i'm happy with a basic coulour if i can have a bright picture/large canvas on the wall to add a bit of colour. Our sofa is black so we really need a little bit of colour in the room.

I have magnolia, because I'm fickle, and every time I've had a strong colour on the walls I've ended up hating it after a while.

I like to keep the walls neutral then add colour with cushions, throws and table runner which can easily be changed around - am planning to change from brown and red to green and cream accessories.

The canvas idea sounds nice.

POFAKKEDDthechair · 02/09/2010 18:15

white. Can't bear magnolia. for a narrow room, white, white, white.

Crazycatlady · 02/09/2010 18:15

We also have a long, thin, light room. Took about a year to decide on a colour. Previously it was lilac and purple (hmm).

Now it is a fresh, breezy shade of Cricket White (Little Green Paint Company). It's like the palest eau de nil green shade you could imagine. Lovely and warm looking on a dark chilly evening, and really bright and fresh on a sunny day.

Goes well with all sorts of furniture colours/styles. We've got a real mish mash of new and vintage stuff.

mathanxiety · 02/09/2010 18:22

Mine gets afternoon sunlight, with a bay window facing west and two windows facing south. I have a deep grey-green a bit like this, maybe more greeny. I have a big bright painting on one wall and creamy furniture, with cushions of many colours and patterns, as well as loads of books in bookshelves, white casual curtains. Floor is sealed hardwood with a medium stain. Woodwork is white. I have lamps instead of an overhead light.

I am also opposed to the feature wall idea...

Marne · 02/09/2010 20:00

I like the green, i think i actually have a pot of that paint that we bought in the sale. At the moment (in our old house) we have a duck egg blue which is nice. Dh and i can't agree on anything, i like modern he likes Antique style (as he deals in antiques).

That green is gorgeous. Your room sounds fab math.

Rather annoyingly, just tried to do a link to our shade of light green, and it looks like a really odd yellowy colour on the LGPC website.

lalalonglegs · 02/09/2010 20:32

Grey - it looks lovely and goes well with all the different-coloured furniture which we have (I don't like matchy-matchy).

Oblomov · 02/09/2010 20:53

White. Every wall in house is white. not magnolia. white.

mistressploppy · 02/09/2010 20:55

Mine's a very very pale pink - looks white at first but then you realise it's a cool blush. I love it, it looks sort of....1950s powdery Grin.

BenignNeglect · 02/09/2010 20:57

We have yellow (called pale citrus or someting), and pure white chimney brests.

pebblejones · 02/09/2010 20:57

'Frayed Hessian'
It's a slightly darker beige, it's very warm. I like it a lot. I'm thinking of papering the wall with the fireplace, to make a feature of it, but haven't decided yet.

Wigeon · 02/09/2010 20:59

White (recently decorated when we moved in). Love it. Have a red sofa, bright pictures, nice rug so walls needed to be neutral, and I think white looks more modern than cream / magnolia.

maize · 02/09/2010 21:14

Magnolia with teal accents. Its a long thin room with two windows and it works well.

LynetteScavo · 02/09/2010 21:16

Magnolia.

I am considering putting wallpaper on one wall. But I've been considering it for 3 years now.....
