HannahGMumsnet · 11/04/2018 10:58

Treads Shoes are offering Mumsnetters £10 off a pair of leather boys' school shoes (£35, were £45) with free delivery across the UK, and a 1-year indestructible guarantee.

Put them to the test here.

Mumsnet carries some affiliate marketing links, so if you buy something through our posts, we may get a small share of the sale (more details here).

I think maybe SuperVP works for Treads Shoes Wink Same inability to use the apostrophe.

TittyGolightly · 18/04/2018 10:03

You could be right there!

SuperVP · 18/04/2018 10:21

I was always taught to never argue with fools, so, have a nice day lovely ladies.

TittyGolightly · 18/04/2018 10:27

Not wanting an argument. Have you evidence that boys’ feet differ in structure to girls’ feet?

dadoutnumbered · 18/04/2018 10:39

I'm sure if Treads Shoes released the girls' shoes first rather than the boys', you wouldn't be piping up as much.

If I wanted to buy a dress I can't, because its marketed as a 'Womans' Dress with Women's sizes, where's the equality in that. BS.

TittyGolightly · 18/04/2018 11:01

I would indeed be “piping up” because there is no NEED for separate kinds of shoes!

TittyGolightly · 18/04/2018 11:02

Great first post by the way. 👍🏻

SuperVP · 18/04/2018 11:09

TittyGolightly - Out of interest, would you name your daughter with a 'Boys' name? Is this sexist? I've lost the plot.

UnimaginativeUsername · 18/04/2018 11:15

Even setting aside the sexism, I do not believe that the shoes are indestructible. I’m absolutely confident that DS2 could wreck them in the same time he does all the other ‘hear-wearing’ school shoes he’s ever had, even without using the shoes as brakes for his bike.

I often wonder how many pairs of school shoes parents of girls must go through a year. The ones marketed at boys come with rubber toe caps and reinforced side panels, etc and still never last. They look rubbish within a couple of months if you’re lucky. Yet I look at the selection for girls and wonder why anyone thought they were going to last a year of primary school playground antics. Sure they look prettier when you buy them (pretty much anything looks nicer than DS2’s school shoes) but they must last about a week before they’re a state.

TittyGolightly · 18/04/2018 12:19

I've lost the plot.

You’re not kidding.

DD has a girl’s name. But actually, her nickname is a boy’s name.

But regardless, calling her Jane, Sarah, Pixie, Fred or Simon doesn’t make any difference with regards the opportunities available to her. Whereas gendered footwear does.

stargirl1701 · 18/04/2018 16:53

FFS. They just don't get it. The problem is labelling the shoes for boys. They are shoes for children. Children's shoes. Why would girls need different shoes? They are children.

Fuckoffunicorn · 18/04/2018 22:58

Teads I’m interested to know how the girls shoes will differ from the boys and why you think these differences are key to how you market the shoes? Would be great to get a response on this from Teads Mumsnet

Stinkbomb · 18/04/2018 23:46

Coming n to say what woodlice* said - very disappointing

havenmummy · 20/04/2018 07:34

Getting any school shoe that lasts more than a term has always been a problem for my DS I bought a pair of these treads shoes two weeks ago and have to say so far they are standing up to the test Time will tell I guess

TittyGolightly · 20/04/2018 08:39

Presumably they’ll be the best shoes ever. Hmm

EduCated · 20/04/2018 10:54

Interesting that those with positive reports seem to have either signed up or name changed especially for this thread.

UnimaginativeUsername · 20/04/2018 11:38

A better test of the guarantee would be to offer some MNers (parents of boys or girls) to test these indestructible shoes for you. I’ll volunteer DS2 for the task, and promise not to let him wear them while riding a bike (although I can’t promise he won’t get them wet - it does rain on school days, sometimes a lot). He’ll be a great test of how indestructible they actually are.

I’m sure other people can offer similar help in convincing us all that indestructible shoes for boyish boys who behave boyishly exist. And that they are, in fact, not suitable for those girlish girls who behave girlishly (and therefore require radically different shoes).
