Me. I knew, I knew Miss, I knew

What's the other called again? Kipper? Or is that the dog. God, I never thought I'd forget all this

Jamieandhismagictorch · 01/03/2010 19:39

Why such stupid names? I can't remember which is which.

ahundredtimes · 01/03/2010 19:41

We used to delight ourselves by looking for

a) random spectacles on the ground (honestly, they're always all over the place, randomly left. The opticians make a killing in their town.

  1. the nosy neighbour. He lives next door, often to be seen looking over the fence

  2. fish bones (see spectacles)

  3. the school janitor. very suspicious, often to be seen masquerading as a pirate or in a stately home. Apparently he looks like the illustrator.

You may be interested to know I have THREE children, close in age. There's nuffink I don't know about biff and chip

MumNWLondon · 01/03/2010 19:46

Of course they are twins as they are in the same class at school.

DD just suggested her new baby brother is called either Biff Chip or Kipper. I tried to explain they are not really names, although both Chip and Kipper were in the name book I had (not Biff though).

But I am happy as DD(6) only has 6 books left (halfway through stage 9) - so will be finished them hopefully next week if can keep one a night momentum up. And I have a full 6 months before DS starts reception, and the fun starts again!

BellsaRinging · 01/03/2010 19:49

WHAT?????
Is this in the more advanced books? If so you should have indicated a spoiler alert!

lovecheese · 01/03/2010 19:50

Ahah - but does anyone know their real names. (I do) Praise mark.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 01/03/2010 19:53

I thought they were their real names. Crap names, admittedly, but real.

Do tell

misshardbroom · 01/03/2010 19:53

I knew they were in the same class at school but assumed it was just a convenient plot device to enable them to go on trips together and such like.

Go on then lovecheese, what are their real names and how do you know?

OP posts:
gruber · 01/03/2010 19:55

Biff's real name is Barbara, isn't it? Chip is Christopher, and Kip is.... um...

MumNWLondon · 01/03/2010 20:07

SPOILER ALERT: Yes in stage 6-9 lots of stories about things that happen at school, school trips, school projects etc etc.

How do you know their real names - where does it say?

NoahAndTheWhale · 01/03/2010 20:17

There's something in the teachers' notes maybe about their real names. Someone has said about it on a thread somewhere. Once.

I always assumed they were twins. And despite DS having read rather a lot of them, listening to readers in DS's class and even DD now starting on them I still get names mixed up.

BellsaRinging · 01/03/2010 20:19

I can hardly wait for the further and continuing adventures. So how long do I have to endure this for? They're not the GCSE set text now are they?

Wallace · 01/03/2010 20:27

Kipper is Christopher and Chip is David.

Yess I knew Biff and Chip are twins. I still have a third child to do the ORT. I'm not sure I can bear it, even though they're not that bad.

gruber · 01/03/2010 20:31

I'm not sure how I know, not being a teacher nor having school-age children...

Did play Biff in a school play once, aged 6. Perhaps that's what ingrained it into my brain...

Acinonyx · 01/03/2010 20:42

Just did a Biff and Chip book with dd and I didn't know!

MumNWLondon · 01/03/2010 20:48

Actually past stage 5 the stories are fine. Its only the beginning bit thats painful. DD skipped from halfway through stage 4 (still painful) through to halfway through stage 6 (more interesting stories) - only in November.

School allows up to 6 books a week, so have gone through the later levels quite fast. We are now just finishing stage 9 and really everything since she skipped the stages has been interesting for her.

My DH keeps on telling me how much he likes the stories

squeaver · 01/03/2010 20:52

Dd got told their real names at school. Apparently they were "discussing it at circle time" - dd's words. How scintillating that must have been...

meltedmarsbars · 01/03/2010 20:55

Do your dc's really have to read the whole lot from beginning to end?

Our primary mixes and matches reading programmes with a whole bunch of other books, not just ORT.

primarymum · 01/03/2010 21:03

Try being a teacher, when you have heard the SAME book 10 times in a day, you rapidly lose the will to live! ( Thankfully I now teach Yr 5/6, the variety is much better although I still have two children on Biff and Chip )

princessmel · 01/03/2010 21:06

I never knew they were twins!! I'll tell the dc's tomorrow.

TheCrackFox · 01/03/2010 21:12

Technically they are twins as they were cloned in a secret laboratory in Geneva in an evil plot by the EU to turn British parents slightly insane.

LadyBlaBlah · 01/03/2010 21:14

fascinating

meltedmarsbars · 01/03/2010 21:15

I have a Biff n Chip orginal illustration on the wall here - belongs to ds.

So there! Na na na na nah!

mollymawk · 01/03/2010 21:15

Well, you learn something new every day.

I am currently hating Floppy's Phonics.

Although there was a brief moment of amusement the other day when DS's book had as its blurb "Floppy wants the big bone". Fnar fnar.

MumNWLondon · 02/03/2010 13:39

Yes at my DD's school they have to read every single sodding book - some children are on another scheme (those who are struggling mainly I think) but she was put on ORT. She did GINN in reception and despite being able to read pretty well they put her on ORT2 at the start of year 1 and the teacher said she had to read every single book before she could move on.

They seemed to have around 40 books per stage (by the time you add in Floppy's phonics and the songbirds, and the sparrows etc) and by mid December both me and DD were going mad with it (school allows 6 books per week), she kknew every word in every book and was totally unmotivated...had just got onto stage 4, and by then she was reading proper books out of school.

Class teacher claimed she couldn't help at that was school rules. I spoke to the head teacher and she jumped to halfway through stage 6.... now on stage 9 and are still managing 6 books a week and have only 6 books left! YIPPEE!
