This is our new festive thread ladies.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Aranea · 16/01/2010 23:04

Yes, tree, I think that could be the case. I keep hearing about the Highly Sensitive Child. Must get a copy. That and the Out of Sync Child (or whatever it's called).

I don't think I've had the roundup this week! What have I missed???

treedelivery · 17/01/2010 16:05

Ahhhh, thought you'd never notice

DD is having a daddy weekend, she chose him to take her to a party and today they went off to the forest for bike rides and playgrounds etc.
Possibly because I am tired and grumpy. Moi?

Uniform is not all done. There are still bits in various wash piles/needing ironing

I have to approach the child and look at the week's menu, decide on pack lunches or hots. No wonder I'm not popular!

NoahAndTheWhale · 17/01/2010 16:53

I notice everything

treedelivery · 17/01/2010 16:58

One day I'll be in for something really good and clever and funny. I have aspirations.

paisleyleaf · 17/01/2010 20:48

hehe this thread's made me chuckle this evening.
Oh no! About the baked beans! Did it never get mentioned after?
And I know that uniform twitch.

NoahAndTheWhale · 17/01/2010 21:20

at BakedBeanGate.

I have made DS's lunch. And polished DD's shoes. There are bits of uniform around the place. Hopefully the Monday morning scrabble won't be too bad .

I saw it may snow again next week. I am Not Impressed.

treedelivery · 17/01/2010 21:28

Rofl!!!!

Hopefully she thought one of the kids had done it.

Chortle. Scuppered by the bakedbeans.

Aranea · 17/01/2010 21:58

Am I doing something wrong putting baked beans in the bin then?

treedelivery · 17/01/2010 22:23

Better than leaving them in the fridge til they go all hard and white. Not that I do that. No sireeeee bob.

paisleyleaf · 17/01/2010 22:27

I put them in the bin - but only if there's stuff already in the bin to sort of absorb them. I could never put them in an otherwise empty bin.
I used to share a flat with a friend who flushed food all the time - left over shepherd's pie etc.

golgi · 17/01/2010 22:35

Ewwww.

I put beans in the bin. Well I would, if we ever had any to throw away. I live with three very keen bean-eaters.

Just realised I forgot to do the ironing this evening. Too late now. Will have to hope there are still some shirts from last week hanging in the wardrobe.

moodlum · 18/01/2010 09:54

You see - you all think I'm revolting now

Acinonyx · 18/01/2010 09:59

No Moodlum, I too have been known to flush sloppy food down the loo. It does make rather a mess though, doesn't it?

NoahAndTheWhale · 18/01/2010 11:15

Found myself ironing DD's cardigan this morning. And polished her shoes last night. I think I am trying to make up for her status as NSC (neglected second child) by these little acts of kindness.

Still happy to go into school which is good. She was at the front of the line to go in . Nearly picking up time (and must remember I am getting two small girls today. And tomorrow. But different girls each time).

Did my stint of reading in DS's class too. Am worried I may start just living at school as well as trooping back and forth lots of times.

Acinonyx · 18/01/2010 11:49

Glad things are going well Noah!

Finding myself ruminating on a sad conversation with dd yesterday about not having playmates at play time as her former buddies are playing with other children. She said she feels lonely. I have tried to give her advice about trying to join in (I know she is very imidated by groups of children - i.e. anything over 2!) and playing with other children wandering lonely as clouds.

But I can't do it for her. I told her it's just as hard for the mummies sometimes - going into the playground, looking around for our particular friends and wafting akwardly if they are not there (or maybe that's just me - I guess dd and I are alike .

I can't bear to think of her wandering sadly around the playground .

Aranea · 18/01/2010 12:51

No, moodlum, I don't think you're revolting - quite the opposite actually, I think you have much higher standards than me! I wouldn't think twice about bunging beans in the bin (actually in the food recycling bin - ) and I don't think it would occur to me to be embarrassed at someone finding baked beans in my loo! I am very slack.

Glad everything is so straightforward, Noah. You must be relieved.

Acinonyx, that sounds heartbreaking. Can you get word to the playground assistants? Maybe they could help? I know sometimes at our school they will take children and ask others to include them in their games.

Acinonyx · 18/01/2010 13:00

I will see how the situation progresses and if there is no improvement I may talk to the teacher.

I am babysitting for a friend tonight and have to set off at 6 - dh and dd don't get home until 6.15. So I won't get a chance to talk to her. I should have just said no (it's hard to say no....) - I think I will in future if it means I won't see dd at all.

Rather grumpy today.

NoahAndTheWhale · 18/01/2010 13:36

That is for your DD Acinonyx. I would talk to the teacher about it - I know that at our school there is a buddy bench and if you don't have someone to play with you can sit there and (I think) there are older children who are buddies who will play with you, or the teachers/dinner ladies will see you.

I do know the feeling of wafting awkwardly. At afternoon pickup I do at least have DD with me so if there is no one there I know I can play with her . At at morning pickup we are in a smaller space and I do know most of the people there; at least enough to make all the right noises about the weather

golgi · 18/01/2010 20:26

I just didn't know it was possible to flush beans!

Am tempted to try it now.....

treedelivery · 18/01/2010 21:10

Evening.

Acinonyx - heartbreaking. I would feel all out of sorts too. We have the friend post a bit like Noah, some year 6's have the very big and important job of keeping an eye on it. If a little one goes and stands there it is their job to go and play with them and help them to join in.

Your school needs this.

Am tempted to try flushing baked beans too, but they are going all caked and white and hard in the frisge quite nicely so I'll leave them too it for another few days.

ANother good day at school. This is weird! Also having a full week of hot dinners, which whilst costing me £12 with juice, is rather nice. I detest making boring packed lunches. Especially as the child only eats butter sandwiches and Rachels's greek yogurt.

thegrammerpolicesic · 18/01/2010 21:16

ewww at the baked beans story!!
Made me smile though.

No news here except that there's been no improvement at all with the pace of book changes, tricky word changes etc. Had the same book for a week with no change and he finished the tricky words two weeks before Christmas but they still haven't changed them.

When it comes to numeracy and literacy I've no idea what ds is learning in there!

So it really is time I had a chat with the teacher isn't it but I'm so unsure of how to broach the subject without being pushy.

moodlum · 18/01/2010 21:22

girls - please do learn from my mistakes

I thought of you all when I bravely put the end of ds' beans on toast supper into the bin, crossing my fingers that it wouldn't all leak through the bag and cause even more mess.

Aci - that breaks my heart. And is so close to the things that dd used to say in reception. She just wanted a special friend but everyone else seemed to hunt in high speed packs - not dd's style at all. She did get through it though, so I hope your dd does too.

I still feel awkward at pick up time. DS' school mums are all very preened and organised and most have had about 17 children through the school so know every in and out and what to do, which makes me feel terribly inadequate on all counts.

NoahAndTheWhale · 18/01/2010 21:36

I never enjoy making packed lunches. Feel better when I do it the night before - makes the morning less stressful and rushed.
