Or is it just me (and the rest of Brighton)

Just 10 days or so to go now (depending on whether they post letters first or second class)

Yes - we're in Fulham. End of this week I think!!

Jaquelinehyde · 27/04/2009 21:02

Yep we're waiting although I'm not so bothered as I think we will have moved out of the area before schools start.

Happily we're moving to a better school area, not sure how we will fair getting into the local school though!

I know the feeling about the oversubscribed schools. We live on the Lewisham/Blackheath border and it was a real nail biting time waiting to see if DD got into our first choice, which she did [relief emoticom]

FuriousGeorge · 28/04/2009 22:28

We are in Leicestershire and haven't heard yet.Am almost sure dd2 will get in as we are in catchment and dd1 is already there.Plus dd2 has had her name down for years. But the school is very small and recently came out as one of the top in the county,so am a bit concerned that there will be a rush of children wanting to attend now.

Pollyanna · 28/04/2009 22:31

haven't heard here in Brighton yet

caramelwaffle · 29/04/2009 12:34

London. Will find out on Saturday by email. Was informed of decision by a different Bourough two months ago; by post and e-mail on the same day.
Became rather Zen about it all last week: am now back to being fed up - and a teeny bit angry - with the loooong wait.

furrycat · 30/04/2009 08:29

Anyone know if Brighton posts letters first or second class? Wish I'd applied online but didn't know until it was too late that you find out earlier that way

I have a friend in Brighton. Apparently it is by First Post.

furrycat · 01/05/2009 15:00

Thank you. Am very fed up waiting, at least it will cut it by a day!

Good luck furrycat.

Let us know if you get your choice.

caramelwaffle · 02/05/2009 07:18

I am so upset I can hardly type. We got second choice. It is across the road, so is fabulous location, but it is not the school I wanted her to go to. I just feel like crying.

hoxtonchick · 02/05/2009 07:22

caramel. you can probably stay on the waiting list for your 1st choice & there's a lot of movement between now & sept.

we heard this morning (east london). well, i could log onto the website. not sure when the letters arrive. bit of a non event as dd is my 2nd & i only applied to ds's school. but still good to know.

caramelwaffle · 02/05/2009 08:45

hoxtonchick - From utter, utter, utter DESPAIR to elation in the space of an hour. A letter just popped through the door. She has been offered a place at the number one school! I have just subjected my daughter to a rather vigorous celebration dance !

So confusing. The e-admissions says X school (local LEA school) is the number 1 offer.

The LEA letter says that the Governing body of Y Voluntary aided faith school (RC) has offered a place.

Y school is the preferred school.

Thank you for the support and Good Luck!

Furrycat - any news?

furrycat · 02/05/2009 09:04

That's great Caramelwaffle!

Letters here aren't posted till Tuesday so a few more dats to wait yet....(and are you the only people in the country to get your post before 9am??)

OP posts:
GreenEggsAndSpam · 02/05/2009 09:08

Hi furrycat. How did you come to know email applications get an email telling them of the outcome? I can't find any mention of that on the website, and they didn't do it two years ago when I applied online. Website says the letters will be posted on the 5th, so hopefully only 4 days to wait now.

hoxtonchick · 02/05/2009 09:11

oh great caramel . dd is indeed going to ds's school, don't think i made that clear, so all happy here (i haven't told her, she assumes she's going there anyway!).

caramelwaffle · 02/05/2009 09:37

Congratulations hoxton. With more and more stories about siblings not getting placed together you can never be too certain these days can you? It's all rather crap.

Good luck furrycat and GreenEggs

And yes furrycat - the post was unusually early today. The posties must know they are delivering school allocation letters and are scared for their lives if they don't get them in VERY quickly

GreenEggsAndSpam · 02/05/2009 10:06

caramelwaffle - your two letters this morning sounds bizarre. You would have thought the relevant bodies could be a bit more co-ordinated than that. Although at least the letters arrived on the same day.
It is annoying when letters are sent out at the weekend/Bank Hols, so you are not in a position to follow anythng up for a few days. I suspect some LA's do this deliberately to allow feelings to settle before parent's get the chance to speak to them...
I know b&h had a policy of not sending out letters which may cause the recipients anxiety which could arrive at the weekend, hence the fact the letters are going out on tuesday, father than yesterday.
I am in the fortunate position of not worrying too hard as I have a sibling link to the school I want, so for me it should just be a formality. I do recall the anxiety about my first application though!
furrycat - where are you living at the mo, and what did you put as your first choice?

caramelwaffle · 02/05/2009 11:28

Greeneggs - it was'nt two letters. It was an e-admissions e-mail from the borough that let us know we had been offered the community school across the road, followed by a letter from the borough stating that the governors of the faith school 20 mins. away had offered us a place.

re: faith school "this is the school you ranked highest from amongst applications you submitted for any community, voluntary controlled and voluntary aided schools within the borough"

Offers for two state schools within one borough.

E-mail says one thing. Letter says t'other.

caramelwaffle · 02/05/2009 11:33

Oh I did mean to put
Offers for two state schools within one borough. Tis' truly a two-tier state system (three if you count Grammer schools)

caramelwaffle · 02/05/2009 11:41

Goodness gracious. Have actually read the letter properly. "If you would like more information about the reason why your child was not offered a place at any other community or voluntary controlled school you should contact blah blah blah next few days.."

They DON'T KNOW they've offered two schools.
One community. One faith.

How? What? Why? Where? Who am I? Doing. My head just exploded
