Does anyone have any thoughts/views etc on either/both of them? Would REALLY appreciate any thoughts.

Hi, Dinny. Am not to sure. Must say I am very happy with our move (now). I think there are always issues at schools and have heard quite a few about various schools recently. Do you mean Lingfield ND? I really liked that school and had girls on waiting lists for there. Know quite a few people with children there. Also Caterham. Lower school good, apparently, but new HM at upper school is, apparently, less than impressive - friends have moved their children out to a different school. Do you want co-ed/single sex? If you want any more info email me - I'll be rather more frank .....

Interesting - I've heard great things of HM at C and his presentation was really good, have also met the deputy. They have a reputation for "managing out" the more awkward pupils before senior school. Also liked ND, came away more impressed than I'd expected to be, although I think its Head may change in next few years. As you say each school has its positives and negaatives.

This thread is now so old but I thought I'd update for the very kind people who replied to my rather pathetic calls for support. I am now SO happy with the move. The girls are flourishing - particularly the one who was struggling. She's come on massively academically, loves the school, is in swim squad and netball team (so good for her confidence as tried so hard to get into the teams) and just loves it. She's now so much more confident, participates in class - which she was rubbish at in her old school - and has really lovely friends. I think she was quite immature for her year so perhaps this would have happened at her old school but she is so much happier in herself. My younger daughter has never had confidence issues but also loves the school and, I must say, it was the right move for us. So good luck to anyone moving their children. It seems such a difficult thing to do but it's more than worked for us. Thanks for everyone's input. No school is ever ideal but, for our girls, it was the right move. Phew .....
Dinny, would love to know how your move went? Are you still in G?

Glad it has worked out for your girls sykes. We're already getting to the point of considering what next. Still not worked out who Ghosty's sil is , lol !

Liz, I know you can get amazing scholarships at Caterham. Children have been offered up to 50% there but the boy I know who had the opportunity still went to Reigate Grammar. I think the HM is intent on making Caterham comparable results wise to the Grammar - hence the scholarships for v bright children.

sykes - did you move your girls from m to d? We were wondering about D for DD but in the end decided to start her in the state sector..may look at D again when she is older.

sykes · 08/11/2009 19:19

Yes, we did and I'm really happy that we made the move. If you've got any questions, feel free to ask.

sykes, we are currently looking at Reigate schools (due to move from abroad) and we seriously considered Micklefield. Got quite worried when I saw your post...did you move your girsl from M? Can you please explain why?

pinkiehatch · 20/02/2012 13:44

Both my girls attend Dunottar and have done since Nursery. Micklefield is walking distance from our home yet it didn't seem to have the right feel for our family. In my opinion, the pastoral care at Dunottar is unbeatable along with the sporting facilities - I can't recommend it enough.

MrsStoat · 04/02/2013 11:19

I'd be interested in any updated information on Micklefield and Reigate St Marys. In the difficult position of our DD having been accepted to go to Dunottar in September 2013 (Yr 3), but now this isn't going to be happening. Now torn between private schooling in Reigate (if we can find a place!) or state schooling in Horley. Our DD is quite bright, but not very confident, so smaller class sizes in private schools may benefit her, but also worried in case the environment may be a bit too competitive for her.

Any thoughts?

Micklefield is more friendly for girls, but pushes the kids hard and is a bit controlling IMO (the head is a control freak, and some of the teachers are a bit shouty)
RSM is still quite 'boys-sy' and will suggest that its has priority in getting your child into RGS (which isn't true).

Personally I'd go state in horley (is it a decent state school) and then tutor from Year 4/5 to get into RGS or elsewhere...

MrsStoat · 10/02/2013 21:44

Thanks for the info. Trying to consider all options at the moment, so your thoughts are really helpful.

Hi just saw this old thread and wondered about your experience at RSM?
