ok. how about prsents for the teaching assistants?

if you give presents to the teacher, ie. wine, do you therefore buy 2 bottles,
or hope she/he shares?

otherwise i am thinking what an expense

I gave them the same thing at xmas.

There are four members of staff in our FSU so those parents who feel they need to buy gifts buy tin of Quality Street (or similar) between us others buy a small gift for each member of staff. Personally I'm happy with a thank you.

Home-made chocolates or biscuits for all.
Job done.

I buy small boxes of posh chocolates usually for the TAs. This year I have some Crabtree and Evelyn body lotion stuff - I simply can't seem to use the 20 bottles of yr mum gives me

I always buy for the TAs as well. The last couple of years I have given wine. And last year I had four DC in the primary school, this year I have three DC there and thankfully, next year will be down to two. So that is six bottles. And what an expense!

I have bought dd1's teacher and the ta (who is lovely) a bottle of decent wine each and a small box of Thornton's chocs each.

I bought three bottles of sparkling wine. DD1 has two teachers job sharing and one TA. They are all fabulous.
DD's teacher bought me a present for helping with the reading . It nearly made me cry.

You could always buy those single glass of wine bottles if you really wanted to get something for everyone

IME the TAs at DD & Dh's school work as hard as the teachers (at different things, but still as hard) so they get the same.

True. Okay so we give presents to the people directly involved in teaching the children? Oh it's all so hard!

I don't give away gifts bought for me (that would be ungrateful) but I do buy a gift for the cleaners, caretaker, and dinner supervisor who looks after my class.

i sort of thought teachers shared out the choccies and biscuits (for the staffroom) but the wine is slightly difficult to share. not a usual lunch time drink at school

Actually I don't often get bought choccies and biscuits (think my parents know I don't eat them) I seem to get lots of candles and flowers which I love.

maybe that is why the last day of term finsishes at lunchtime, because all the teachers and TA's etc are getting pissed in the staffroom

Why would /should the teachers share their presents out ?

cos the TA's might not get any and they are a team

Our last day of term doesn't finish until 3.30pm and then we have to drive home.

I always get a little something for the TA (this year I found a little pedicure set)it doesn't have to cost the earth and TAs work so hard and are seriously underpaid, it's nice to show appreciation.

But it is tricky to share out five tins of biscuits or boxes of chocolates in the staff room on the last day of term. All the presents seems to be wrapped too so I don't see it as that much of an option I suppose. But then I bought for the TA so .....

Mutt by the same token why not give the TA the present instead of the teacher? Problem solved!
