Reception school allocations will be out in 3 days! How is everyone feeling?!

It says to accept via the portal. I’m sure I did something to accept for my older children. Super frustrating!

Eurgh! Ours was weird- they assumed you had accepted unless you told them, and then you had to confirm directly to the school with various documents that other places ask for earlier.

Also goes to show how important it is to go by the advice provided by the relevant council - it is mad!

Logged on at 7 and there was nothing. Just logged on and been offered first choice - phew I can finally relax

good luck everyone 💕

Lulubo1 · 16/04/2026 07:50

We got our first place and I'm so happy and relieved

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 16/04/2026 08:09

We’ve been offered our first choice but I can’t work out how to accept it.

Is anyone else from Gloucestershire, please?

Listlostlast · 16/04/2026 08:12

Still nothing and it’s still saying decision to be sent on the17th 🤦‍♀️ hoping the email will come through soon!

AnnaQuayRules · 16/04/2026 08:18

@JustAnotherWhinger I'm so pleased your DN got the place but it's outrageous that the sibling policy wasn't applied. Definitely make a fuss!

cheesehotcrossbuns · 16/04/2026 08:18

@WildDenimDuckwe’re in Gloucestershire, and have got our first choice but are in the same position as you - the email says to log into the portal to accept it but then there’s no option to accept! I definitely had to do something a few years ago for our older one but they’ve changed system since then 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nervously waiting. We have an EHCP in place and our number one is our closest, but I still worry we won’t be given it. It just feels like it won’t happen. I really hope I’m wrong and over-worrying!

Good luck everyone.

Your EHCP will override the admissions system and should have been finalised before 15th February with the name of your child's placement on it. Didn't that happen?

cheesehotcrossbuns · 16/04/2026 08:25

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee Me! And same!

I’ve just called them. They’re aware of the issue but can accept for you their end. 01452 425407

We’re in Cheshire West; we got our first choice and it seems that we have automatically accepted so would only need to make contact if we’d changed our minds and wanted a different school. The email came through at 00.38.

We live in a village about 300m from the school (DS is already at the attached preschool) and it’s a low birth rate year so I didn’t really doubt that we’d get a place, but it’s a relief to have it confirmed!

Lauders · 16/04/2026 08:56

I’m in Kent. Wait until 4pm I think, though that won’t stop me frantically refreshing my emails and checking the portal! Taking my eldest to the cinema this afternoon between 1330-1530 so that should take my mind off it as I won’t be able to check. He’s at a specialist so no sibling rule for my youngest!

cheesehotcrossbuns · 16/04/2026 08:58

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee Yes - I looked at the website and filled in the primary reply form! You’d think they’d have checked the system worked before releasing the allocations 😬

pinkkingfisher · 16/04/2026 08:59

Mine is just showing a page that says ‘you are currently offline’ no matter what I do? Both laptop and phone. Anyone else having this problem?

sunflowersadie · 16/04/2026 09:10

Bristol emails came through at 12.30am… we got offered 3rd preference but we have gone on the portal and selected waiting list for our 1st preference, whilst keeping offer at 3rd one! Really disappointed.

Sorry, I should have explained better. We’re not all the way through the process yet. The panel have agreed to an EHCP and sent the proposal which we’ve responded to, so we’re still
waiting on finalisation/school/funding band etc. So there’s no certainty yet.

Magenta82 · 16/04/2026 09:24

Hertfordshire, no email and nothing on the portal! I am really close to the first choice but its the "best" in our area so really popular.

FraterculaArctica · 16/04/2026 09:27

@Magenta82 Herts usually get theirs out by c. 10 am - not long to wait!

tombombaclot · 16/04/2026 09:36

Got our first place!! No email but portal was updated first thing

JustAnotherWhinger · 16/04/2026 05:46

No, looked after only includes children who have been looked after by socials services placement apparently.

Its something I’m going to take up and challenge them on because it’s ridiculous that another family in our position (and we have DN because he is orphaned so it’s not a changing situation) could end up with two school runs through absolutely no fault of their own. Luckily for us you literally leave our garden, cross a narrow path and you’re in the school ground so when distances are calculated he’ll be the closest (as the two houses closer still have no children applying this year).

I think you would have had a strong case with a (but shouldn’t have needed to fight as surely this is a Priority School Admission given the SGO).

Maybe this is a charity to work with to ensure fair access for others.

@prh47bridge often offers advice and support on the Education threads and is very knowledgeable about the legalities of the admissions process.

Got first choice and there’s no option to accept it. I can’t tell if I’m being dim or if it’s a glitch, so I’ve emailed to ask.

Ours said no action needed unless declining it so could be the same for you xx

Wolowl · 16/04/2026 10:01

We're London so got a while to wait. I am so anxious! Any of our top 3 would be fine but only 1 is in a good direction to get to work afterwards. I just hope it's not 4th, 5th or 6th choice as they weren't the best for us. We shall see

angelos02 · 16/04/2026 10:05

What happened to catchment area? I don't have children but that's how it worked when I was a kid. Otherwise you'd have people not getting into their nearest school having to travel further. That would be bonkers!

We had catchments areas in the early 80s. We moved into the area mid year and there was a school behind our house. When applying it wasn't our catchment school, it was a mile away. Catchment schools in the past didn't always mean the closest school.
