6 year old using the word ‘sigma’

I’m sure many of us have seen Adolescence. It absolutely terrified me and has really made me think about the influences around my DS, who is 6. He came home from school and mentioned the word ‘sigma’ twice this weekend. I know it’s nothing he’s heard of seen at home (I keep the apps he has access to at age-appropriate levels and monitor what he watches), but he may have heard this at breakfast or after school club, where he mixes with older children. Has anyone else come across this? How are you handling it? I’m a millennial mum but I work with a lot of Gen-Z people and I’ve heard a lot of the terminology, so I feel quite alert to it. The question is how to deal with it. I think I’m going to mention it to the school as whilst these terms may be mentioned just because they’ve heard other people saying them, the meaning behind them is somewhat sinister and I worry for my DS and other children. Many thanks

I think you can maybe guess the age of people from the memes they reference. Sneaking in subtle references to generational memes during boring work meetings and seeing if anyone else clocks them is also a fun way to pass time.

My daughter will probably never know why me and her dad occasionally say things like "Bother! Bother! Bother!" (From Bothering Snape) or "What is in there?" (In dodgy accent, a C&C Generals computer game reference- also occasionally "AK47s for everyone!", "Thank you for the new shoes." and "I am BIG." The whole soundtrack was rife with them!)

Let alone why any references to badgers might often be followed up with one to mushrooms... (the first meme where I called it that)

Going to have to try getting six seven into a work meeting this week and seeing if anyone parents notice.Or maybe I'll bring up lean six sigma for a double points...

I found out they put YouTube on at my kid’s school at breakfast club. I wasn’t expecting that to be on in the background on a big screen. But yeah, I wouldn’t be alarmed by it. As others have said they’ll definitely pick it up from other kids even if they haven’t seen the actual memes themselves.

Gen alpha slang - nothing to worry about.

Was that the same song that also contained the immortal lyrics “my name is Elvis Presley, girls are sexy, sitting in the back seat drinking Pepsi”? For some reason I always associate the two, but they may just have been the same era.

Our playground version of that was: "I went to a Chinese Restaurant/ to buy a loaf of bread-bread-bread. I wrapped it up in a five-pound note and this is what I said-said-said. I said......girls-are-sexy, boys-are-sexy, sitting in the back seat, drinking Pepsi, had a baby, called it Daisy - and that is my name!"

We also had

What's the time
Half past nine
Hang your washing on the line
When its dry
Take it in
Put it in the biscuit tin
Eat a biscuit
Eat a cake
Eat your knickers by mistake

Wow! I've never heard of any of those and not via my daughter (45) ,grandchildren (14 to 21) or being an Early Years teacher for 30 years. Were you born in the 90s?
