Thought I’d set up a thread for those of us sitting our DS/DD for the 4+ in 2023 (for September 2024 start date). Anyone had any assessment day(s) yet?

OP posts:

Lizzie5050 · 29/01/2024 13:26

SHHS I think has 24 places and headteacher is leaving the junior school I think before September start

user1469968406 · 29/01/2024 13:28

Ok great, let me know if you decide to accept. We are also most likely going to accept but waiting on Highgate @CiciZhang

Winchmoremum3 · 29/01/2024 13:35

Has anyone got an offer from st Christopher’s?

GNW3mum · 29/01/2024 14:00

We are wait listed

legalish · 29/01/2024 14:10

Painful wait for Highgate!!

Winchmoremum3 · 29/01/2024 14:10

Us too! It was our first choice so hope it moves! They said they only have a small waiting list and it usually does so fingers crossed!

GNW3mum · 29/01/2024 14:17

Fingers crossed we also love SC and SHHS so hoping that we will get one of those 2 🙏

CiciZhang · 29/01/2024 16:02

Highgate result is out. My DD in a WL. We will accept Habs and release Channing this week.

Lizzie5050 · 29/01/2024 16:31

Is everyone on here finding alternative private schools or still in the process for state schools? I have applied for the state school list too and just curious if you’ve all submitted your list or stepping out of that process altogether?

Ottermum123 · 29/01/2024 16:35

I haven't posted before but have followed this thread during this whole process and felt solidarity with everyone. For reassurance for those on waiting lists, our daughter has been offered NLCS, Habs, Highgate, Channing and St Christopher's and we will obviously just be accepting one (not sure which yet) so if that's anything to go by, there is likely to be movement on all the lists, I think.

Discoverdock · 29/01/2024 16:54

We are lucky enough to have received offers from NLCS, SHHS and St Christopher’s and still deciding which one - I think the waiting list should move in a few days as there are a few events upcoming towards the end of the week at various schools for parents with offers to attend and decide.

On a side note - For the NLCS School bus, it says that for the first school, they can only catch the early bus which means drop off is around 4:20-4:40(not sure if we can rush back from work) - anyone have any thoughts what they are going to do for after school care especially if both parents work? I know there is wraparound care at the school, not sure if we really fancy going to Stanmore every day at 530 to pick her up or whether a lot of parents still have after school nannies. Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

MEPOP12 · 29/01/2024 17:02

I am interested in the NLCS after school care too. I spoke to some existing parents using their coach and in all the cases the mum doesn’t work / or works part time so pick up at 4:15 not an issue for them. But for us it may be an issue as I cannot see work letting me do that everyday…

Highgate after school care seems to be more set up for working parents.

Do people use childminders or Nannies for pick up?

tiktokontheclock · 29/01/2024 17:03

Ottermum123 wow that's a great run!

What month was your DD born in?

Can you share anything about how you prepped her?

RR123RR · 29/01/2024 17:07

Very fortunate that DD has offers from NLCS, SHHS and Highgate. We're deciding too -- the waitlist will most definitely move!

FulhamToddlerMum · 29/01/2024 17:29

Anyone holding offers from G and FH?

Congrats to your DD, now comes the difficult part!

It's worth remembering that often the schools offer to double the children that there are places, specifically because they know that most children will have multiple offers (and that no one will hold out for a WL place and will go elsewhere). There needs to be a lot of places rejected before the wait list starts to kick in unfortunately...

Sssddd · 29/01/2024 19:47

I don’t think this is true - unless you were specifically told this by a school? Maybe in the past but not anymore.

The schools all have an admissions policy they must abide by. If there are 30 places, 30 offers are given and each school will set the size of the waiting list based on their historical movement numbers or calibre of students. If they gave 35 offers and even 31 accepted - what happens?

So there should be movement, but of course success depends on how far down the waiting list you are.

Sssddd · 29/01/2024 19:50

Well done!!! Interested to know how you rank them/decide

RK20 · 29/01/2024 20:02

We are on wait list for NLCS. Does anyone know how many over offers they send out? Do those on waitlist stand a chance? We have an offer from Glendower but logistically NLCS is better for us so hoping for some movement.

LondonCoffeeLover · 29/01/2024 20:17

We got an offer from The Hall and waitlist from UCS. We released a place at St Paul’s Cathedral. We loved The Hall so very happy.

That's really interesting! Makes perfect sense too. We were told by two of the schools (NW London) that we applied to that they offer between 25% - 50% over the number of places available as if they offer to 30 and only 15 accept then they're relying on waiting lists to fill places and very often those on waiting lists have understandably accepted elsewhere given the uncertainty.

It's possible that these schools are outliers, and there's so much else to worry about that it's probably best ignored!

Such a tough process, there are many paths to success so am sure whichever school everyone's DC get into, it will be right for them and they'll shine Flowers

FYI I don't think '50% over' is the same as 'offer to double the children that there are places'. Double the children would be much more than 50% over

BirchTree1987 · 29/01/2024 21:14

I also haven’t posted up to now, but have been following the discussion. Firstly, well done everyone! Secondly, just to provide some further support to anyone waiting on their favourite school: We have received offers from NLCS, SHHS and Habs, and will be taking up the latter, so hopefully that will free up some spaces at the other schools. Good luck everyone!

Padina82 · 29/01/2024 21:30

Unfortunately our DS didnt make it to any of the schools we applied for - rejected by The Hall, UCS, Habs, Highgate, Hereward House. I was so dejected, I am not sure what these schools are looking for.
Our only hope now is Arnold House where he is on the wait list from last year - we are desperate that someone leaves/moves, so we have a chance.

I remember there was one year Channing offered too many places and they had to upgrade the classes to 3 for total 54 kids instead of 48 kids. So I believe they offer more than the places but I don't know how much more it will be.
