Easy to open water bottle for reception

Just that really . He’s been using a Klean Kanteen for the past 3 years and it’s still in great shape ( and has not been lost yet ha ) but he can’t open it himself and that is a requirement for reception .

Also, do water bottles really go missing as often as I hear? My son has never lost his water bottle and it goes in and out of nursury, parties, sports etc and always comes back with him . What’s different about reception? Am I in for a shock ? 😆

DD never lost a water bottle. Do you have the sports cap? Only asking because DD’s klean kanteen came with a screw cap that she couldn’t open herself but I replaced with the sports cap and that was fine.

EveryLittleWish · 28/06/2023 11:32

@justasoul I’ll look into that . Thanks 😊!!

Super Sparrow on Amazon, the one with the button on front and flip top lid. I swear by them and have them in loads of different sizes. Plus they're easy to clean and not a million pounds when someone steals it/it gets lost in the school vortex.

SoftSheen · 28/06/2023 21:08

Decathlon metal water bottles are easy to open and easy to clean.

Mine never lost anything either, probably because everything was properly labelled. I don't think people realise how hard it is for a child to find their own jumper in a pile of five identical ones.

This is the best bottle I've ever had although it's RIDICULOUSLY expensive in this link...it doesn't actually cost that in reality.

DD has the kids Yeti one. Drinks stay really cold i.e. put ice in it and it’s still frozen 8 hours later. It’s also really easy to open. The only time it’s gone walkies was a mix up with a friend who had the same one so was an easy swap back.

EYFS teacher here. Water bottles go missing for a number of reasons

  • children who haven’t been to nursery aren’t used to it
  • Some schools insist on a standard issue bottle and they might not be labelled clearly
  • water bottles may go to different areas of the school - lunch, outside free flow, PE etc
  • other children like your child’s bottle and take it (!), not maliciously, just because they prefer it and it hasn’t occurred to them that they can’t.
Your child may be fine, lots are, but label it and check on pick up every day, rather than coming in the next day and asking for it there and then.

We have an Ion8 one which DS has had since pre school. Never lost so far and he's always been able to open it himself without issue.

Flangeosaurus · 28/06/2023 21:36

We have Ion8 as well, it’s the only one which has started randomly
leaking and/or cracked from the abuse of being inside DS’ schoolbag

Flangeosaurus · 28/06/2023 21:37

*Hasn’t leaked!!

Camelbak Eddy+

We got one from WH Smith's. Ds has never once lost it and he's august born so the baby of the class really bless him.

You can get really good name labels online from my name tag. We get the stickers for water bottle etc then the iron on ones for uniform as I'm hopeless at sewing.

5childrenand · 28/06/2023 22:27

Just label it. Really clearly and not with something that will rub off. I like easy2name labels -my dc have never lost anything at school.

Stuff only goes missing when it isn’t labelled.

Getahobby · 28/06/2023 22:56

I like the sistema or ion8 bottles. Ion8 insulated ones keep water cold really well, still lovely and cold after school during summer.
They get lost but usually because your child has forgotten it. Mine only ever have "lost" bottles when they've been forgotten at school, then found the next day. Lost property helps these things too, just make sure everything is labelled well. I just buy personalised name labels to stick on to everything.

AbsoluteYawns · 30/06/2023 06:50

Another vote for Ion8. We have a few and they never leak. Get them cheaper in TKMAXX.

The Sistema ones are good. Lakeland have them.

florenceandthemutt · 01/07/2023 15:43

ION8 bottles. My daughter has had the same one all through reception. Doesn't leak either.

Rockbird · 01/07/2023 15:47

I have about 7 lost water bottles on my desk at the moment. Not one has a name on it. Parents who don't label their kids' stuff really think they'll never get lost but when they come to me asking if I have something and they don't have it named, they're not going to get it back easily if at all.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 01/07/2023 15:52

Sistema twist and sip I think they are called. The supermarkets will have them in soon for £2 or something like that. Buy a few and wash them in the dishwasher. Never lost one but they can break after a lot of use.

Rainbowstorm · 03/07/2023 22:09

My kids both have one green bottle bottles - my eldest has a big one as she drinks loads. My youngest has a small insulated one which has been a life saver as she won't drink water unless it's cold and it's really warm in her classroom! They both have flip up sport caps and provided they close them properly they don't leak. They're much better than the plastic ones we started with cos they used to get dropped and broken all the time - stainless steel all the way.

avocadotofu · 04/07/2023 10:36

DS4 can open his Camelbak by himself. He has mental and plastic ones which have lasted a couple of years so far.

Potsto · 05/07/2023 21:20

Sistema Tritan Swift/Tritan Active (same bottle, just different sizes). Easy to open, easy to clean as no straws/sports caps/fiddly bits for hidden black mould. Also can be filled without taking the whole lid off, so even my younger child can sort out refilling it without assistance.
