Hi! I need advise please Wink

(I hate uniforms AngryAngryAngry)

DD1 was in reception last year and we bought the trousers from the uniform shop and they were a mistake.... always falling.....

This year I intend to shop elsewhere. Somewhere cheap and cheerful. Any suggestions? Please let me know your best finds Grin

These things are expensive! DD2 is going into nursery as well.

I need black trousers with white shirt/blouse, blue trousers with white tshirt (short and long sleeve)

Plus shoes ConfusedConfused did I mention I hate uniforms yet?!

Btw school says black trainers for PE. Can it be the same black trainers as the usual days? If not, are plimsoles really bad? Stupid question: are plimsoles like those thin sole trainers or are those kind of weird gym ballerina slippers?

Supermarkets. (Are you meaning navy joggers for PE? Or bright blue?) I prefer Sainsburys, but have Asda bits as well and they are good.

Tangledtresses · 30/07/2021 11:20

I personally love marks and spencer uniform as it lasts!
And don't get plimsols just buy cheap black trainers

These look comfy and stretchy. Would they look out of place? AIBU? Blush

Asda all the way - I found them better quality than M&S. Clarks for shoes though.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/07/2021 11:30

If you don't want joggers get navy leggings. Mine always got away with them.

Three0fivepointfour · 30/07/2021 11:30

I bought from M&S and George. Shopping around at George is very nearly almost as good, if not the same as M&S although sizing is smaller. I’d always buy joggers at M&S though, they’re indestructible. The ones in a two pack that are fir boys and girls.

noscoobydoodle · 30/07/2021 11:32

We get DD soft jersey uniform trousers from Sainsbury's or Asda. They are soft material and no buttons or zips etc. My DD only wears soft leggings at home, but she likes these.

Pissinthepottyplease · 30/07/2021 11:34

My issue with school uniform is DD grows too quickly for it to last a year.

noscoobydoodle · 30/07/2021 11:34

DD won't wear joggers so wears the plain sport/active wear leggings - again from Sainsbury's or Asda.

Bobholll · 30/07/2021 11:54

Is this for PE or school? There isn’t a single girl in my DD’s pre-school who wears trousers as uniform, they all wear skirts & pinafores with comfy, thick cotton tights- is that an option?

PE - we use these - they are joggers but look more like leggings! Also, just because you don’t like joggers doesn’t mean they aren’t OK for your kids in PE. They might like them, they are likely to be wearing what all their mates are and it’s just PE. Not a fashion show. No-ones watching them bar the teacher! Cotton joggers are super comfy. I live in them at home!

My DD is heading to a no-uniform school in September, I’m finding it just as hard to make sure she has clothes she likes but practical 🙈 DD would be in tutus if she had her way!

LastPlaceStillProud · 30/07/2021 14:28

Just watch out our school don't allow leggings, it's joggers or shorts on PE days and properly fitted trousers on uniform days, they don't allow the jersey fabric trousers or pinafores either - unless there's some sort of SN. This is primary aged.

Soooo jealous!!!

Jeans could be your uniform Wink different colours, sparkly, anything! I've had jeans from Primark that lasted for 2 children and are in storage for no3!!! DDs uniform trousers were embarrassing after 2 months Envy

The school allow for both.

The joggers are for Nursery all the time.

DD is very slim and tall and we had lots of problems with her uniform trousers Sad that's why I wanted something cheaper or better this year. Those trousers had a huge elastic and were always falling down no matter what we tried

@Bobholll actually those joggers don't look too bad. The ones I remember looked more puffy Confused

Double check school is ok with black trainers for PE - (supposedly due to the indoor school hall) ours would only allow plimsolls, and constant reminders/requests went home to parents who hadn’t bought those ones.

evtheria · 30/07/2021 16:21

Sorry, just read yours has actually specified trainers! Def get those, the plimsolls are awful!

Pissinthepottyplease · 30/07/2021 16:47

DD is a similar shape but perhaps dresses.

GiantToadstool · 30/07/2021 16:53

We found pinafores worked better as didnt have to worry about loo visits and slim waists!

CoffeeWithCheese · 30/07/2021 21:07

Uniform trousers - we go for Asda jersey style ones (very soft and don't need ironing) and they have a longer leg length version online that I tend to get, and leave till the last week in the holidays to take up any extra hem. Both of my kids are beanpoles (DD1 in particular is ALL legs) with no waists - sometimes I need to take in the waistband a tiny bit with a couple of stitches just to catch it but not normally.

Invariably even now we're getting nearer the older end of the school mine will start the year insisting they want skirts and tights and the first bit of cold weather and they'll be whining they want to go back into uniform trousers!

I tend to buy the Asda jersey stuff a lot - the kids like the skater style skirts (they have optimal twirly qualities apparently for dancing on the playground) and when they were younger they wore the jersey pinafores as well. DD2 has motor skills problems as well and suspected ASD so the fact it's soft and easier to get on and off for her is also good. Different schools have different policies on what's allowable for uniform though - ours have generally gone down the "right colour, sensible shoes, for gods sake bring a bloody coat = win" line!

Joggers - I'd say get the next size up as well ready for a growth spurt - last year, with all the schools doing the "come in your PE kit on PE day" - everyone suddenly needed much more of it than they'd anticipated (DD2 had PE on two consecutive days of the week and the teacher was obsessively telling them it HAD to be different kit because of Covid) and you couldn't buy school uniform coloured PE stuff anywhere for love nor money when DD1 shot up in height!

I tend to just buy the bulk of ours from Asda - but I have picked up some bits from M+S this year - the sizing on their gingham dresses was huge!!! The kids liked the skorts though!

AuntieStella · 30/07/2021 21:32

I've always got generic uniform from Asda and been very pleased with it

grey12 · 30/07/2021 22:19

Thank you everyone Smile

I find M&S and Next last longer and wash better so normally get most stuff from there then buy extra cheaper bits from Asda or Matalan. The Next joggers were my favourite (our nursery was joggers only too).
