Pink school dresses - a non serious topic!

I’m looking at school uniform & I keep seeing pink summer dresses - which schools have a pink uniform?! All the others are standard blue, red, green in various shades plus purple which is also a bit unusual but pink?! What’s the rest of the uniform like?!

I also had no idea you could get gingham skirts. I actually like the red ones in a none school my uniform-y way! Do schools actually allow these? I’ve never seen anyone in them round me..

Gosh I'm so jealous of all the colours. In the 80s ours was white blouse, red tie, blue csrdi, grey skirt. High school was white blouse, grey skirt, blue jumper, blue blazer, blue tie with a red stripe. My first job was navy skirt and white blouse. My first job out of uni was..... White skirt. Navy skirt, navy jacket.
DS is yr1 and his is grey or black bottoms. Yellow tops, blue jumper

My summer dresses in primary school were pink and burgundy was also part of the uniform.

I used to live near a primary school that had a brilliant uniform - there were school poloshirts and sweatshirts in about six different colours, really bright colours like yellow, turquoise, cerise pink, green etc and the kids could wear any combination they wanted with their own clothes like shorts, joggers, skirts, jeans. It looked bright and practical, there was an element of uniformity but also room for the kids to express themselves.

Couple of schools near us have the pink dresses. One has pink jumpers one has red.

When I was at secondary school - back in the dim and dark 1970s - the girls allowed us to wear a gingham school dress in any colour

@PumpkinKlNG

I think you could get away with buying the pink dresses for red school uniform, ours is boring blue 😢
I would take blue!!! Mine have jade green and burgundy and it’s horrific!!

Am I the only one who wishes uniform was just "uniform but choose your colours"?

The village school does this. It's nice - lots of different colours. (I think they can wear trousers or shorts if they want).

So you can go teal one year, or blue the next, or red etc. Or a different colour for a different day of the week.
My girls' grammar school, back in the dark ages, had candy striped summer dresses in a choice of blue, red, yellow or green.
One girl, who wore 'Edna Everage' type glasses, had interchangeable frames which she teamed up with the colour of the day's dress.Grin

There’s a primary school near here with turquoisey-blue jumpers and pink, black, turquoise and silver striped ties. It’s honestly the most revolting uniform I’ve ever seen.

Dd's first school had a choice of 4 colours for sweatshirts/cardigans and gingham dresses, was lovely to see the playground full of colour and the children could choose which one.
My secondary however was bottle green, including skirts and trousers Confused

At the primary school I went to you could wear any colour of gingham dress with a black cardigan. I think pink was one of the most popular colours!

I really like those little gingham dresses. Cheap, cool, comfortable. easily available, wash and dry in minutes, look adorable.

parrotonmyshoulder · 04/07/2021 13:49

My DD wore gingham dresses in the summer at her non uniform school in KS1. They were so cheap, comfy and washable!

Pink and a sort of maroon. It looked lovely on the little girls. I made my own gingham dresses and they didn't look school-y at all on their own, but put the cardy on too and they were perfect.
I remember when dd1 was about to start she was so excited she went round telling all her friends about the special pink dress she had for school. Much upset occurred among her friends who had blue or green. Grin
They then moved to a juniors with purple!

But my dc and friends were desperate to wear uniform at infant age. So much so that some of them wore the dresses to preschool even though there was no uniform.

In the 6th form I had a friend who had come from a non-uniform school, who chose to wear the school uniform throughout. We were meant to wear "smart casual" for 6th form, or could choose to wear the uniform. She was so delighted to finally have uniform she wore it every day. We thought she was a bit crazy, but she was happy!

bananabuddy3 · 06/07/2021 20:36

One near me does! School colour is burgundy and the summer dress is pink, likewise there’s a bit of pink on their burgundy tie. There’s also a purple school near me.

cheeseychovolate · 08/07/2021 22:41

Yellow and white gingham dresses here!

AuditAngel · 08/07/2021 22:49

My daughter’s school is blue gingham, but there is a range of pale blue, royal blue and navy blue.
