Pink school dresses - a non serious topic!

I’m looking at school uniform & I keep seeing pink summer dresses - which schools have a pink uniform?! All the others are standard blue, red, green in various shades plus purple which is also a bit unusual but pink?! What’s the rest of the uniform like?!

I also had no idea you could get gingham skirts. I actually like the red ones in a none school my uniform-y way! Do schools actually allow these? I’ve never seen anyone in them round me..

The gingham shorts were popular at a previous school. I've seen a few girls in them at other schools.

A bit of googling has found a school with a burgundy jumper, and pink dress in the summer.

Bobholll · 03/07/2021 17:28

I suppose pink & burgundy kinda works.. not a combination I’d immediately spring too!

Pink and burgundy works better than yellow and brown!

namechange90832 · 03/07/2021 17:34

Some academies desperately trying to make a brand for themselves have gone for less traditional colours like pink.

Agreed! Yellow and brown went out with the ark.

My school had a pink summer dress in the 1980s. You could either buy the dress, or buy the fabric and make your own dress in any number of patterns. We had a navy jumper/cardigan with it, not burgundy, which I think would be grim! Especially for those, like me, who have red tones in their hair Smile

Heckythump1 · 03/07/2021 17:55

We used to have a private prep here that was grey and pale pink.... the girls wore pale pink v neck jumpers with a grey line (pink and grey kilt in winter) around the neck and cuffs and the boys wore grey v neck jumpers with a pale pink line around the collar and sleeves.

Sounds awful I know, but actually looked really lovely! Although I bet the pale pink jumpers were a bugger to keep looking nice!

Kanaloa · 03/07/2021 17:59

Could it be schools with a red uniform? A school near me has a red cardigan and a lot of girls wear pink gingham dresses in summer with the red cardigan.

DinaofCloud9 · 03/07/2021 18:03

I used to wear pink years ago. The school now wear either pink or red. I didn't realise it was unusual.

PumpkinKlNG · 03/07/2021 18:03

I think you could get away with buying the pink dresses for red school uniform, ours is boring blue 😢

imeanreeally · 03/07/2021 18:10

Am I the only one who wishes uniform was just "uniform but choose your colours"?

So you can go teal one year, or blue the next, or red etc. Or a different colour for a different day of the week.

How nice would the playgrounds be, just a sea of bright colours Smile??

I'm going off on a tangent a bit but I think pink sounds lovely. Would look nice with light grey!

Our school is any combination of anything purple / black / grey / white / yellow. I stick with the purples blacks and greys so they can all go in the same wash together. Red jumper + white polo + black trousers would do my head in.

But still better than brown and yellow Envy

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/07/2021 18:42

My school uniform was lilac blouse with a purple blazer.

Findahouse21 · 03/07/2021 18:45

My daughter's school has 3 colours that they can choose from, either all one colour or mix and match. It's great because the younger ones tend to go super colourful and then the older ones go for what suits them

RandomMess · 03/07/2021 18:56

My DC had pink gingham summer dresses with burgundy/maroon jumpers/cardigans.

It was quite expensive as fewer places sell them and they were so slim and tall that only the M&S ones fitted. At least I could hand them down through 3 girls.

I also found out how to get the dreaded black dry wipe board pens out of them.

Akire · 03/07/2021 18:58

Our school had burgundy jumpers and pink dress. Another local school had red jumpers and red dress so couldn’t be the same.

fedup2017 · 03/07/2021 19:03

Just as an aside... Our very small primary school has announced a change in uniform from next year.... No more summer winter uniform. You can have a choice of sweatshirt colour ( 6 colours to chose from) and then black leggings/ joggers/ shorts. Plus trainers rather than school shoes. It's because they are an "active school" and spend lots of time outside / forest school. The sweatshirt colour choice is so the children can chose whatever they like. I think it's a bloomin marvellous idea.

Violetroselily · 03/07/2021 19:04

My primary school (I was there in the mid-late 90s but I think it's the same now) had pink summer dresses. The school colours and winter uniform were red and yellow.

We wore grey cardigans with the pink gingham dresses. Winter uniform was either a red jumper or the grey cardi with a red and yellow tie.

IPeedInThePool · 03/07/2021 19:09

Wow I love the choose your colour idea! Would be lovely and so bright and fun!

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 03/07/2021 19:16

My infant school had red as the main colour, with green as a secondary colour (so the ties were red and green stripes) so in the summer the girls either wore red or green checked dresses, which broke up the monotony. The junior school colour was blue, but when my brothers were there the two schools federated, so now the uniform is purple.

Another local school has blue and red as their colours, so white shirt, red tie, blue jumper, and in the summer they have red polo shirts, or red checked dresses for the girls.

Bobholll · 03/07/2021 21:20

@fedup2017 - oh I love this idea! We are actually starting a non-uniform school but my little girl is DESPERATE for a checked dress like her two best friends going to a different school.. so I’ve said she can have one gingham of her choice 🙈 I’m sure it’ll get worn once & then when she sees her new friends in normal clothes will want to be like them .. but she’s actually a bit sad to not have a uniform at the mo. They’ve been banging on about it at nursery I think as all the schools local have one. But we moved areas, so she’s the odd one out going to her school!

Do you think I’ll be judged for her wearing a school dress to a no-uniform school 🙈🙈 Maybe she can just wear it at home!

I like the no uniform thing on the whole, I think leggings & trainers are just fine for primary school. A school sweatshirt or cardigan is nice though for that community spirit!

My Dcs school has pink summer dresses and yes , the jumper uniform colour is burgundy

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/07/2021 21:26

@Bobholll with everyone wearing different stuff the other girls wont realise she's wearing school dress for elsewhere! If they weren't 'standard uniform' they would be rather pretty dresses.

(When mine were younger and we lived abroad, the locals did think the gingham dresses worn at the British school were lovely dresses.)

Theworldisquiethere · 03/07/2021 21:27

You can get dresses that are gingham without being uniform style!

A private school near me recently changed their uniform from the nice, if boring, blue blazers and grey trousers or plaid skirt (which I though was really nice!) to all bright purple everything and it’s awful!

HonorHiding · 04/07/2021 00:40

I went to a British school overseas where the girls’ uniform was “gingham dresses in any colour”. It was a hot country, so I think we wore them all year round. My sister and I loved having a choice of colours (but didn’t choose pink Smile).
