Summer dresses ban from 2023

Does anyones elses primary school not encourage the wearing of gingham dresses?? Apparently from 2023 they will not be allowed at all but if you have them from previous years you are allowed to wear them. I love my DD in her checked dress, When I asked for a reason it is because they are not a gender neural item.

How bloody ridiculous! It's a flipping dress are they going to ban skirts next ? If a boy wishes to wear a dress then crack on but don't make girls have to change what they like to wear.... how's that fair

2bazookas · 17/06/2021 01:35

@Nandakanda

Why do primary kids have to wear gender neutral clothing?

What a complete and utter load of shite.

Before long, female names will be banned too.

Next, Y front underpants will be compulsory.

quizqueen · 17/06/2021 01:59

Is this because of girls doing handstands in dresses? If so, it's a just another example that girls/women are expected to adapt their behaviour all the time to suit men/boys.

Gullible2021 · 17/06/2021 02:02

I'd be taking my child out of that school if they are going to be this ridiculous and politicise a gingham dress because they believe everything must be "gender neutral". They're clearly not rational enough to be in charge of children and I'd be worried what bullshit they'll be feeding them.

Littlescottiedog · 17/06/2021 07:41

I'd be asking them why they're removing the girls option to make it 'gender neutral' and not providing something like skorts or culottes for everyone.

I actually think I'd be kicking up a big fuss about this. I think it's outrageous to remove a female clothing option because they want to be "gender neutral" - they're primary school kids. Why should all the girls have less choice just because there's potentially one boy at the school who would rather wear a skirt but feels they can't? I'm assuming that's the thinking behind this decision.

I just can't see any other way that the uniform of a primary school could be considered offensive to anyone. In fact, I'm offended that they think people shouldn't have the right to wear a skirt if they wish.

It always seems to be the female choice that's removed, doesn't it?

Curatingchaos · 17/06/2021 07:44

Fuck this fucking gender neutral BULLSHIT.

Northernlurker · 17/06/2021 07:49

So the girls lose out so the boys don't have their feelings hurt? Sod that!

DoylyCarte · 17/06/2021 07:58

This is... bizarre

citcatgirl45 · 17/06/2021 17:00

Apparently it is the same for the two other primaries in the same academy trust. Summer dresses have disappeared from the uniform list and in the secondaries belonging to the same trust only trousers are shown in the uniform list . A friend whose daughter attends the secondary says girls are expected to wear trousers like the boys. None of these schools have never sent a letter saying the change in uniform policy - it has just been taken out of the uniform policy and new starters to the school will be none the wiser. I am currently drafting a letter to the governers.

Pure woke bullshit

Sirzy · 17/06/2021 17:08

Madness!

List the uniform items. Let the child/parents then decide which they want to wear. I was always happier with trousers when at school (and now!) but that was personal choice and doesn’t mean others shouldn’t be able to pick which is best for them

cocog · 17/06/2021 18:36

Why can’t any child choose anything from the uniform list? My little girl is 3, I’ve just bought her some to start preschool in September. last two children have been boys waited years for a little girl in summer uniform (obviously she’s free to choose ) sons both have transgender children in school years nobody’s bothered so why remove comfortable practical clothing for millions of children. This really is unjust to the thousands of little girls who wear them.

MrsWooster · 17/06/2021 18:42

Definitely write to the governors. Gender neutral does NOT equal male clothes. They need to have a uniform list and accept that any kid can wear any item of it regardless of their sex.

Heckythump1 · 17/06/2021 20:44

At our school, girls are allowed to wear black leggings, but boys aren't allowed to wear black joggers?!
I wish they'd ban the leggings, they look awful (and i'm a mother of girls) too small and half of them are see through, not a good look at all!

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 17/06/2021 21:36

I understand why you're all enraged about dresses being removed, I too believe in choice for all. But so so many on here have stated that shorts are 'the boys option' or 'like the boys wear'. My daughter wears shorts quite often for school. Finds them more comfortable than dresses, although she does sometimes choose a dress. They're just shorts. Not boys shorts. It should be anything from the uniform list for boys and girls. Take the labels away altogether.

Interesting that when I was at school the girls petitioned the headteacher to be allowed to wear trousers. Now schools seem to be wanting everyone in trousers the girls will be petitioning again. Hopefully they'll do a u turn when they realise how hard it is to get trousers that fit properly on some girls.

I would have hated having to wear trousers at school or out of school for that matter. Shorts even more so.

Awful for someone with my shape. When I was young I never wore trousers and only do so now because I wear them with long tops.

The thought of tucking a shirt into trousers is my idea of hell.

ilovesushi · 19/06/2021 10:23

School uniform is generally hideous. The gingham cotton summer dresses are the only decent item amongst all that dreary nylon and polyester. My DD moves up to secondary this year, but she has always loved wearing her summer uniform in primary. Kill joys!

This is outrageous. Please come back and tell us what the governors response is.

Most gingham dresses are polyester. Never found a cotton one.
TheLovelinessOfDemons · 19/06/2021 10:33

How about we let all children wear all items of uniform? DD's at secondary school and they have boys' and girls' trousers, which is crazy! Just have one style for both!

Whatwouldscullydo · 19/06/2021 10:34

One style for both wouldn't work.

You have to recognise male and female body shapes. They are different

I completely agree with you. I’d worry about what other gender shaming things would be being taught to my daughters.

That I understand, but the boys' trousers are straight and the girls' are bell-bottoms. The girls' trousers are fucking hideous, DD hates them, but absolutely refuses to wear a skirt. Also, boys wear grey ankle socks and girls wear black knee socks, which are nigh on impossible to get now she's a size 6.
Whatwouldscullydo · 19/06/2021 10:45

Oh I.agree that school trousers haven't been anywhere near a girl in their design.or manufacturing.

Which.makes removal.of skirts and dresses even worse

Do you really think a teenage girls body would fit the same trousers as a teenage boys’s?
