March so oldest and definitely felt it was advantageous.

Winter2019 · 20/12/2019 21:45

On the youngest side

Africa2go · 20/12/2019 21:48

The school year in the UK is 1st Sept to 31st Aug so April, was middle-ish. Why? I think where you fall in the cohort is much more of a "thing" now than it ever was in the 70s/80s.

Lipperfromchipper · 20/12/2019 21:51

I was the 3rd youngest or there abouts, the oldest girl was a exactly a year older as we shared a birthday, that I do remember.

My daughter is the second youngest at 6yrs 9mths and the oldest in her class turned 8 this month.

kevintheorangecarrot · 20/12/2019 21:53

Oldest.

ineedaholidaynow · 20/12/2019 21:53

I was the youngest girl in the school for nearly a year until a new girl joined one of the other classes in my year, whose birthday was the day after mine. I was not impressed!

nocoolnamesleft · 20/12/2019 21:55

Both. I was the oldest in the class, and bored rigid. Was moved up a year, so became the youngest in the class, and was less bored. Though probably socially not ready for it.

daisypond · 20/12/2019 21:58

March, so in the second half of the year group. I only realised much later that the year group of two classes was split into sep-feb and mar-aug birthdays, so I was in the younger group.

At primary school, French system, one of the youngest.
At secondary school.English system, one of the eldest..
I did the last 2 years of primary school twice by changing systems.

mackerella · 20/12/2019 22:01

Youngest (September birthday but moved up a year). Incidentally, am I right in thinking that they don't move children up (or down) as much as they used to? I was at primary school in the 80s and have come across a couple of people my age who were moved like that, but haven't known it at all in all the time my own children have been at school Confused

HebeMumsnet · 20/12/2019 22:03

Always the youngest here. At some points the gap between me and the next youngest was nearly a year, and me and the oldest in class nearly two years. Academically I don't think it held me back but I think I'd have been happier being more in the middle. It was an issue sometimes socially.

Thornhill58 · 20/12/2019 22:04

My husband was the youngest 24 of August. He struggled most of the way. He did excellent in University.

Lllot5 · 20/12/2019 22:05

One of the oldest September birthday.

Redcrayons · 20/12/2019 22:05

Second youngest by a week.

I always had a secret and, obviously, irrational dislike of the oldest who’s birthday was 2 months after mine. I’d finally get to be the age then it was summer holidays and then she’s older again.

I do like telling people I did my GCSE’s at 15 and my a levels at 17 though.

ineedaholidaynow · 20/12/2019 22:06

My DH was moved up a year in infant school but the junior school wouldn't take him that young so he had to redo the last year of infant school. This was in the late 70s

MerryChristmasUfilthyanimal · 20/12/2019 22:07

I was the youngest in the year a few time's. End of August birthday.

GaaaaarlicBread · 20/12/2019 22:07

I was oldest being in October , my brother and sister both August babies . Wouldn’t say it made a difference to any of us . All did well :)

dementedpixie · 20/12/2019 22:08

I was towards the youngest although I'm in Scotland so the cut offs are different. Here the youngest have January/February birthdays (although conversely could be the oldest if they are deferred for a year). Otherwise the oldest children have March/April birthdays. I have a November birthday

dementedpixie · 20/12/2019 22:10

P.s. this meant I left school and started Uni at age 16 although I turned 17 shortly afterwards

IdblowJonSnow · 20/12/2019 22:11

I'm a younger one. Prob held me back a bit. Also the youngest out of siblings by quite a way. Always got babied. Blush

aggitatedstate · 20/12/2019 22:11

Oldest. Was put down a year. Was still thick as shit academically.

Strangely I have been the highest achiever out of my year group in the working world.

JoJoSM2 · 20/12/2019 22:15

I was by far the youngest but never felt it cause any issues.

anon2000000000 · 20/12/2019 23:08

I was the youngest. It was shit when everyone was turning 18 and I still had months to go.

Son is one of the youngest and dd will be one of the oldest.

Floralnomad · 20/12/2019 23:12

I was generally the youngest with an end of July birthday , academically it made no difference at all and the only time it really became apparent was when some people had passed their driving test before I could even start to learn .

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 20/12/2019 23:15

The very youngest for all of primary school. The 2nd youngest at secondary, by about 6 hours Grin
