I was the actual youngest all through school. Smile

AmericanLemonade · 21/12/2019 15:38

September 6th I was the oldest at primary and high school

Derekmorganwasinmybed · 21/12/2019 15:39

Mines the 1st September

Perid0t · 21/12/2019 16:48

Youngest. End of August.

Pinkblueberry · 21/12/2019 16:53

Youngest. It made no difference to me at all.

carben · 21/12/2019 17:57

Youngest (27/8). Also have twins (28/8).

Mid-June birthday so one of the youngest. Was only a problem when it came to legally getting served in pubs/ passing my driving test (not related issues). Otherwise I liked being young for the year and never suffered academically - or indeed socially, at least not because of my age. DDs are both summer born and doesn't seem to be to their detriment either.

DramaAlpaca · 22/12/2019 01:48

One of the youngest. It wasn't an issue as I was academically bright.

I have to admit though, my own DC were planned to be autumn & early spring babies.

OrangeLola · 22/12/2019 09:33

31st August. Not a problem at school as I was bright enough.
More noticeable at sixth form college. I was very immature for my age especially compared to some students who had a year retaking GCSE so were nearly 18 when I had just turned 16.

SproutinducingFarti · 22/12/2019 09:37

Oldest at primary school, youngest at secondary school. I went to high school a year early. I coped well with it academically but it was more of a problem socially sometimes.

wishing4sun · 22/12/2019 09:56

Me and my sister were both August birthdays, she did very well academically where as I really struggled.

My Son is one of the oldest and is having to wait for everyone to be 18 so they can all go to the pub. I think it's different for each child.

NoseyBuggerMummy · 22/12/2019 11:40

I was one of the eldest, academically I was very strong so would have been fine as the youngest but socially it was definitely an advantage If I'd been a almost a year younger on starting primary I'd have been completely lost. I was fairly young emotionally.

GrumpyHoonMain · 22/12/2019 13:45

I was the second youngest in my year (born right around the Aug cut off) and both of us were at the top of the class right from the nursery through to GCSEs.

doritosdip · 22/12/2019 13:53

I'm an October born and was one of the top academically but wasn't sporty at all.

My spring born kids have lots of top grades at GCSE/A level

Robs20 · 22/12/2019 13:58

Youngest. I have a September birthday and there were 4 or 5 girls who were 12 months older than me in the same class. It was never an issue academically, the only time I noticed it was when everyone else could drink and learn to drive before me!

Getoffmylilo · 22/12/2019 14:02

Youngest. Birthday tended to vanish into half term, which later became revision time. My best friend was one of the oldest, which she loved, I now revel in her being 6 months older than me!

Teddyreddy · 23/12/2019 18:33

I was the 2nd youngest until the last year, when I was the youngest. It was never a problem academically, but particularly in secondary school it was noticeable socially. I didn't take a gap year before starting university, and with hindsight I think I might have enjoyed my first year more if I had.

Purpleartichoke · 23/12/2019 18:37

Youngest and happy about it. School would have been even more frustratingly rudimentary if I had been older.

Petrichor11 · 23/12/2019 19:19

One of the youngest in my year but as I went to a small school we had combined classes some years, by chance mostly with the year below, so I was effectively in the middle.

I was always fine academically, I enjoyed the year where my year was with the year above, as seemed to be stretched more

LarkDescending · 23/12/2019 20:32

4th week of August, so one of the youngest. I got my O-level results on my 16th birthday 🎂

A friend of mine had her DS at 11.55pm on 31 August. Her DH was desperate for him not to be the youngest in his school year and they laugh now about him yelling “Don’t push! Just hold on another 5 minutes!”

highheelsandweathercocks · 23/12/2019 20:39

My birthday is in the last week of August so I was always one of the youngest (at primary there was a girl three days younger than me and at secondary a girl a day younger and a day older than me).

I never struggled or saw it as an issue. I felt sorry for those that I saw as needing to stay in school longer. Though more accurately it was later in life as they would have had an extra year at home before starting school. I left school at 15, some of my peers were almost 17.

Socially, the three friends in my close group were all born in May so not much of a difference.

Isanameoptional · 23/12/2019 20:47

Both my brother and I were the youngest in our year and did very well at school and both ended up being the dux. I liked being the youngest as it meant that I had a degree by the time I was 20 and could start my career.
My sister was also one of the youngest but was also the youngest in the family and struggled and would have probably benefited from another year so I guess it depends on the child.

WakyWally · 03/04/2024 17:17

trickortrickier · 03/04/2024 17:23
