Hello Everyone, my son is writing 7+ exams for Westminster, St.Pauls and KCS this year.
My son is preparing for a while now and struggling in English a lot as of now.
Could someone please provide me more insights on the interview and activity tasks that the kids are asked to participate in and how to ace those bits? How could I prepare my son for these bits?
Thanks a lot.

Anyone invited to the SPJ 7+ interview? I am wondering what to expect, just to mentally prepare DS. Any tips will be appreciated!

Yes. Next week. There will most likely be a lesson with Mrs. Shaw and q&a based on that, a team building+puzzle solving exercise, a creative writing piece. So long as DS is attentive, cooperative, and performs even moderately well, it should be good news at the end of the day.

Thanks Nataly21!

Anyone’s DS sat the WUS 7+ yesterday? How did it go?? My DS seemed to have found it a lot smoother than KCS & SPJ but he had terrible days on those exam days…

What are you doing to prep for the interview?!

icantbelievethis001 · 08/01/2022 13:38

@SoNervousForHim best of luck!

We sat the WUS 8+ But don’t know anything about WUS interview process.

We practise open ended questions, interview formality and confidence to speak about things that interest DS.

Kings read out a passage and asked questions of the boys during the interview. So who knows what will happen at WUS. The schools are getting quite creative, which is quite fun for the boys.

Does anyone know what the class assessment may consist of? KINGS was drawing and writing pages for an encyclopaedia. My DS loved it.

We are at crossroads between WUS and SPJ - offer from both schools and not much time to decide. Distance is the usual first element of choice but we are equidistant. What may tip is the fact that SPJ uses buses, while WUS not, as far as I've heard.
What attracts me to WUS is the small overall intake (44 in total) and the more "cozy" feel, while SPJ has bigger intake and seems more "streamlined", just bigger in general. Apart from location and intake differences, can you help with more insights about ethos, culture, academics (I've heard WUS has better English program, more traditional). ..

Anybody has any information regarding KCS's reserve list this year?

Waitlist1234 · 27/01/2022 12:42

Sorry ggsprite. I think deadline for acceptance was today noon so you might hear today or tomorrow. Maybe try and call? Good luck

ggsprite · 27/01/2022 13:32

Thanks Waitlist1234. Will try.

Hi, I can see this conversation was in 2019 but the intensity of the subject is as profound if not more. I took all great advised on board but I also recognise the need of the help of a professional to target my sons weaknesses in dictation and comprehension. I strongly feel he should be immune from the pressure and working too many hours of his playful childhood.
Does anyone know of an experienced tutor preparing for 7+ Examination for St Paul and Haberdashers, to assess and help me?

"but I also recognise the need of the help of a professional to target my sons weaknesses in dictation and comprehension. I strongly feel he should be immune from the pressure and working too many hours of his playful childhood."

Kind of an oxymoron, no? Most serious tutors will require a lot of work.

Agreed. If a parent wants a DS to go to a top school, then that DS better be prepared to work hard. If they don't want to put in the hours now, then they are not well-suited for the most selective schools. Maybe a more relaxed school is for them.

7+ prep for these schools is mad. Make no mistake, prep is meticulous not only on the academic side of course, but also on interview prep. Rehearse questions, what type of answers, group activities etc.

It has become a mad exercise and frankly not sure how the schools will get out of it. Raising lots of unhappy kids that have been over tutored and it is difficult for the schools to find the magic difference given all the repisé es parents are throwing at it

It is a marathon. So if your child is borderline, I would rather leave him in the good prep and be happy and build confidence at the right pace.
