DD is 5 and in Reception. Needs a costume for World Book Day. School are very strict in that it cannot be a character from a film or a Disney book of the film type of book. Must be an actual book character. The problem is she is only interested in unicorns and princesses and she is only just starting to read. Help!!!

Years ago DD went as Topsy from Topsy and Tim. In case it wasn’t clear I sewed the name onto her top!

Mine is going as slinky malinky the black cat.

Thanks everyone. Lots of great ideas. Lots of good characters that she hasn’t come across yet though. In terms of books she enjoys hearing: Kipper, Mog, most of Julia Donaldson, peppa pig and books released by Disney based on their films so stories around Frozen and Moana.

She could be literally any princess. Just stick her in a dress and send her in with Cinderella/sleeping beauty/princess and the pea/whatever

The Worst Witch. Very easy if you have a Halloween costume - start reading her the books now! Or Meg the witch from the Meg and Mog picture books.

any fairy from the Rainbow fairies books. Alice in Wonderland, agree with Worst Witch or Meg, Lucy from Lion Witch and Wardrobe. I used to say to mine "you are going in normal clothes think of a normal girl in one of your books and say you are her" (I don't do dressing up days!)

DD went as Lettice the dancing rabbit at that age. She had the book, wore her ballet outfit and some bunny ears (in the cheap shops now for easter). Was one of the easiest we've done. Would be very similar to Angelina Ballerina.
